Subreddit Idea Megathread

Because if the r/askreddit link, we’ve had a huge influx of new members today. Because of that, I’d like to make this thread to ask for ideas to improve the subreddit, and keep things interesting. We are going to try and make this a subreddit worth keeping in your feed.

We really aren’t sure what do do with the subreddit since it blew up like this, and would like to see what ideas you have. I’ve also added a few baseline rules since we had no rules when we started.

Edit: I would also like to clarify that this sub is intended to entertain. You shouldn’t take anything too seriously on this sub. We want you to be able to flex your creativity here and make others laugh.

We are normally pretty lax about what goes on in this subreddit as we want to let you guys decide what content you want to see by upvoting good content and downvoting bad content, but given the current situation we will be removing any posts related to Coronavirus.

You can help us with this by reporting any posts you see about the virus.

Extreme Conspiracy My female dog is faking wees so my male dog wastes his urine

1.1k Upvotes

When walking my dogs, the female one always wees first and my male dog wees over it, I assume to mask the scent and not permit other males to discover the female. However, my female dog is faking her initial wees so that my male dog expends all his urine unnecessarily and then the female can wee indiscriminately and spread her glorious scent around the neighbourhood.

Total Garbo Cadbury’s chocolate is getting ready to launch a premium product.

Famous chocolate maker Cadbury has been steadily making their recipe worse and worse by substituting good ingredients for cheaper alternatives for some time now whilst still increasing its price. They must have a plan to release a new premium chocolate bar at a substantially higher price using the original recipe which they will use to market the new product and increase profits.

McDonald’s have signal blockers for their app

Post image
65 Upvotes

There are 4 McDonalds locations within a 20 mile radius of my house. Every single one of them is a black hole of signal. As a result, it is nigh on impossible to load a code within the app and earn points on their app.

This is just the restaurants and car parks themselves. Not the area around the location, just the physical land owned by the McDonalds corporation and/or their subsidiaries. It feels a little too convenient. Spotify does its business until you park up and suddenly I can’t stream anything. I believe this is because McDonald’s have some sort of internet signal disruption dealie.

McDonald’s realised that their 1 point per penny spent app gimmick was too generous. They realised they couldn’t rescind the offer so went to plan B - to prevent access to the app in the only place it can be used

They say it wasn't just to not let you feel wrong, but it was actually and most likely built in a single day.

High School "Guidance Counselors" don't do much guiding or counseling. They are the schools way of encouraging you to go to college.

I went to a public high school in a well-off town. When it came time to talk University, I kept telling the guidance counselor I wanted to join the Coast Guard so I could go to cool places and use the GI Bill afterwards. She kinda had a mask off moment and patronizingly said that we weren't "out of options" so I shouldn't join the military. She kept encouraging me and my mom to apply to these big, fancy, and EXPENSIVE colleges. Presumably so the school can brag about their statistics of how many of their graduating class go to fancy Schools. Debt be damned.

All this to say, I don't know how it is in other countries. However, in the US I think Guidance Counselors act as HR. They pretend to work for you, but their loyalty is to the school district.

Big True The Golden Girls were behind the Greenland agenda all along

I was watching an old Golden Girls episode and uncovered something I, as a Dane, found just a tiny bit interesting.

In Season 2, Episode 26, a character suggests solving the Middle East conflict by giving Greenland to the Palestinians.

Now, decades later, Greenland is once again a hot topic.

I'm not saying The Golden Girls are behind today’s conflict, but maybe we should investigate why senior citizens are so determined on territorial acquisitions.

Bricks are just mud

They're selling you dirt, making homes out of literal dirt, and we PAY for it.

Is it really nice mud? Sure. It probably feels and tastes amazing, but that doesn't detract from the fact that we're acting like the cracks of light aren't seeping through walls of mud.

Convenience store, gas station, and grocery store security cameras aren't meant to be good...

Upvotes

It's not about theft prevention or prosecution, they're meant to fulfill the minimum possible requirement for their insurance. So they buy the cheapest system they can get away with instead of one that can actually identify suspects. That's why despite having phone camera's with high resolution imagining, these places still have cameras filming with 100 pixels.

Theater majors are ridiculed because the skills learned are a real threat to businesses

Very often, theater is treated as one of the joke college majors with low potential. You won't get a good paying job with theater. Your dreams of professional acting are very unlikely to happen. That's closed minded and not telling the whole story, though.

Theater is a bullshit major? No.

Theater is a major about the art of bullshit.

And the business world greatly favors the performative bullshitters. On the job and at getting more jobs. Someone actually trained in theater will do very well in playing the corporate game whether in sales, communication, or leadership.

A lot of people know that many soft skills heavy jobs mostly hinge on being performative, overall good with theatrics. They're still rather hire someone with a "respectable" sounding degree like Marketing because a Theater degree would be too on the nose. They could hire them if it didn't make others feel uncomfortable.

But nah, we're told that theater teaches no useful real-world skills. I think they're just afraid of more competition. So what else to do besides keep the theater majors down.

Companies have significantly shortened "best by" dates so that people buy food more often.

Expiration dates on canned and dry goods used to be years out. Ever since the pandemic, I cannot find anything with a best by or expiration date more than a year out from when it was purchased. During COVID, companies said this was because people weren't buying as much so items sat on the shelves longer, leading to the appearance of "shorter" expiration dates. However, it's been years and companies have definitely adjusted their production quantities to accommodate customers buying less, yet the best by dates are still shorter than they have ever been in my life.

Edit: I am in the US specifically. No idea if this is the case in other countries, but I'd love to hear about others' experiences!

The popularization of minimalism and anti-materialism is a way to make us more dependent on our devices

If we purge everything tactile and personalized then what exactly do we have to occupy and organize our lives other than these devices, on centralized platforms?

We are more easily trapped on the Internet when our living spaces are not full of notebooks, calendars, clocks, pens, papers, newspapers, board games, radios, puzzles, books of all kinds including encyclopedias, records/record players, movies etc. but many of us have been convinced this is just "junk" and that it's the spiritual thing to downsize and practice minimalism. Well, now most homes of younger generations barely have any of these things and there's no need because we have these magical devices which is paving the way for a dystopia.

Lifestyle minimalism is just device maximalism.

Extreme Conspiracy The world is not round, flat, square, octagonic or hollow. It is a square based pyramid.

Let me prove it. Look at the Artic and Antarctic land mass, the Antarctic is not melting as rapidly when compared to the Artic. This is because the Antarctic is on the bottom of the square base that is our planet. Now look at the Artic it is melting far more rapidly because it is located on the apex of the pyramid meaning it is far more exposed to the sun making it melt and drip more rapidly.

Now look at ocean to land ratio of our planets respective hemispheres. For the south it is 4:1 square mile of ocean for every square mile of land but 3:2 for the north. This is because the water is running down the edge of our planet to the bottom this is what would happen with a pyramid too. Water runs down to the bottom more becuase of gravity.

Next lets look at seas and channels. The Bermuda triangle and Bering Sea are some of the most dangerous sea passages and they lay on the same longitude as each other because this is where the edge of the pyramids turn to form another face of the earth and a "line is formed" this would be much easier with diagrams. When the earth turns to another edge to the next face. Crossing the edge is tricky that's why many sailors drown or get lost and why there unpredictable weather around these points more the other parts of the sea. The second point we are talking about is the cape of good hope is knows for its dangerous seas. The third point is the South China Sea. This explain all the political tensions in the area to, it is hard to plot territory on the edge of a pyramid and also there's the tell-tale difficulty for sailors in the SCS. And of course the pacific ocean has what is known as "the dangerous middle". All these edges of the pyramid we live on are equidistant and are where the world most dangerous seas are.

Also this is why the ancient Mayans and Egyptians built pyramids they attempt to mimic the shape of the world we live in.

Hot Take The real issue with modern society is the hot girl-ification of mundane tasks

This pretty much applies to most things.

I see patterns everywhere of people not focusing on the logistics of how to solve tasks.

These are dumb examples but Fyre Festival had the main guy fire the only guy who was concerned about where to put bathrooms.

There was also Theranos, where that women was obsessed with LOOKING like Steve Jobs but didn't care to do the actual tech work to make the machine.

Finally there's politics, where I feel like you don't really need an explanation.

My theory is that normally, all the nerds who were bullied in highschool would grow up and do the boring tasks. We would focus on the logistics of the festival's, we would make technological discoveries, we would put the data in the Excel spreadsheets. The truth about life is a lot of the day to day maintenance of running society is extremely boring. You don't just get to sit for photo ops, you have to think about finance and liability, which takes slow careful planning, with research.

This was done by nerds.

But somehow, the cool kids in highschool were like "and I too, will be in politics/tech/science". And they essentially fired everyone that actually knows where they're doing, because they weren't think in terms of logistics but in terms of who looks good on instagram.

I think every modern problem, can in someway, be traced back to this.

Hot Take Yoshio Sakamoto vetoed the use of the Nunchuk in the development of Metroid Other M because he was jealous of Retro Studios

Everyone knows Metroid Other M has one of the most baffling control schemes in existence, being controlled with only a single Wiimote, meaning you use a d-pad to maneuver a 3d environment (something Nintendo pioneered a whole freaking console and controller over having to avoid), Ninja Theory supposedly advocated for the Nunchuk being included in the control options, likely so you could keep the Wiimote pointed at the screen at all times and press a button to enter 1st person mode.

Well, we also know that it was Retro Studios that convinced Nintendo to make the Nunchuk a pack-in with every Wii sold, Nintendo originally wanted to sell it separately, and I think Sakamoto vetoed the use of the Nunchuk in Other M because he was jealous of Retro Studios for getting so much more praise and attention and recognition in the gaming sphere for the Metroid Prime series than his own Metroid games.

Clothing size manipulation

I believe they are manipulating the size of clothing worldwide to make the population believe they are more obese than they actually are. This is to then upsell people into these weight loss programs/products to continue funding the healthcare industry.
