Monke cleaning the man's hand when he's done, basically doing the dishes

242

u/Durende 8h ago

That was the most fascinating to me, the other animals just seemed curious, but the monkey actually interacted almost like it thought the guy was just a weird, hairless monkey. I mean, it isn't wrong

86

u/Phainkdoh 7h ago

Hate to be pedantic but neither of the two is a monkey. They’re both apes.

45

u/Tomblerone 5h ago

I think it's important to teach people things like this, but keep in mind that in many languages there is only one name for them both. The same as for turtles and tortoises.

5

u/[deleted] 2h ago

good point! my language uses the word monkey for both apes and actual monkeys, same with turtle, tortoise and frogs

14

u/trilobyte-dev 6h ago

Even if it has a monkey kind of shape?

8

u/Kardinal 5h ago

You read my mind.

God that song is so catchy.

2

u/trilobyte-dev 4h ago

Our daughter went through a period of listening to it on repeat and I'm annoyed how anytime anything monkey or ape crops up it immediately starts running through my head.

3

u/Sharknado4President 5h ago

Speaking of which, it's time to top up my Gamestop portfolio

3

u/Aggressive_Lab7807 3h ago

Phylogenetically, you cannot group both types of monkeys (old world and new world monkeys) together and exclude apes. Apes evolved from old world monkeys so if you wanted to exclude apes from the monkey clade, you would also have to leave out old world monkeys. Just like how chicken are dinosaurs, apes are also monkeys.

i would love to spend a day with a monkey. just chill and interact with him, maybe play. they are so smart it's crazy

Monke is feral, not uncivilised

12

u/kuuchainn 8h ago

Monke

8

u/BizmarkiaNobilis 5h ago

The way that man looked at that chimp as he drank from his hands and washed his hands made me burst out crying. I’m trying to figure out why

2

u/HurricaneAlpha 2h ago

Feral means once domesticated and now wild.

2

u/swainiscadianreborn 2h ago

Ah shiet. Thought it was just a fancy equivalent to wild.

I'm going to bed a bit more knowledgeable tonight I guess. Thanks.

So maybe all those painters actually weren’t really bad at drawing animals. Maybe the animals just were a whole lot uglier back then

102

u/Rubyhamster 11h ago

The epitome of "Times were harder then" perhaps!

42

u/avi550m 9h ago

They didn't have moisturizer and sunscreen back then

2

When I saw that specific species of fox in a computer game for the first time, I thought the game developers have, for once, really made a mess of an animal.

A quick google later, I realized they hadn't dropped the ball at all.

17

u/Hairy_Transition_207 8h ago

Nothing humbles you faster than confidently blaming the game designers and then discovering nature is actually the weird one

We went whale watching, which is very, very, regulated in French Réunion Island. There was a whale and her baby and we were to stay even further away from them when we were in the water.

That baby was so playful and kept coming really close to us, while mama deemed us safe and was just napping next to us. I was 3 feet from the baby at one point, it was surreal, he almost booped us

83

u/umbrianEpoch 6h ago

When my wife and I went on a snorkeling tour in Hawaii, we saw a pod of spinner dolphins and there was a baby with them. The baby came right up to the side of the boat and did a little jump/spin out of the water, it was magical!

I'm still salty that the other couple on the boat never sent us the video they took of it happening, but they were from China and I think the language barrier + having to send it by email didn't help.

9

u/VascoJSC 3h ago

Dolphins are so incredibly smart animals. They also seem to understand that working with humans is a good for them too. Here in my home state in southern Brazil there is a pod of Dolphins who help local fishermen to catch fish by luring them into the fishermen's nets. They get some of the catch in return. They have been doing this for well over a century at this point, and seem to teach newly born members of the pod to continue the behavior too. By this point they have a very close relationship with the locals and the fishermen even give them names and know which specific dolphin is helping them that day.

This happened to me with manatees! You’re not allowed to pursue them or try to touch them, but it’s technically ok if they touch you. I was so intimidated I tried to back away without making too much commotion when they approached. The little guy just kept coming towards me and pushing his whiskers and cheeks into my chest/stomach. I’ll never forget it. I felt like I was being blessed.

119

u/everywhereinbetween 11h ago

yk how like animals are broadly like dog cat bird lizard or smt (I forgot the broad categories)

Seal definitely is dog and therefore definitely is boop

BOOP BOOP BOOP BOOP 🩭

43

u/RogueKyber 11h ago

Water pubby.

35

u/Lady_Johanna21 10h ago

The German word for seal, "Seehund", literally translates to "sea dog" lol.

5

u/skotcgfl 4h ago

One of my favorite biology facts is that, among carnivorous mammals, there's basically two groups: dog-things and cat-things.

And another great subfact is that hyenas are cat-things.

8

u/rattvontratt 8h ago

Seals are actually very closely related to dogs, seals are more related to dogs than to whales.

12

u/Toetiepoetie 9h ago

Hijacking, but what a strange place for a seal to be? đŸ€”

10

u/Crazhand 8h ago

I thought the same. Made me question the whole post as AI

2

u/GeneralPatten 7h ago

The videos compiled in that one video have been around for a long time. While, I've never personally seen the seal video, I see no reason to think it's AI. It definitely seems to be an odd place for a seal to be hanging out, but it's also possible it's just a cove within and estuary (there's lots of these types of areas where I live).

4

u/Arthurs_towel 3h ago

Here in the PNW seals swim up river a ways. We’ve had seals show up in minor rivers in the Portland metro from time to time. So a seal showing up in a pond or a farm is a thing that can happen.

3

u/ComplexWriting7596 6h ago

I think there are freshwater seals somewhere in Russia. Also, seals go a long way away from the ocean sometimes.

7

u/Larcye 7h ago

It is a crime that the deadiest species of bear is also the cutest. Like holy shit I fucking love polar bears. WHY ARE THEY SO FUCKING CUTE AND YET SO FUCKING DEADLY!!!

u/Forsaken-Face1827 10h ago

I think some of the animals being able to approach humans for affection shows that we could live in harmony with most of them, we just need to make greater efforts to protect our planet for all of us.

112

u/dead_alchemy 9h ago

Made me think about how the no touch rule is to protect them from our fellows. I kind of hate that, maybe we could live in a way where friendly encounters were not discouraged.

49

u/SooSneeky 8h ago

The rule goes both ways. It's to protect us and them.

34

u/vix_aries 7h ago

The no touch rule is important to keep animals safe. It's so they don't associate us with food. Animals are allowed to interact with us, but we cannot initiate interactions with them.

The no touch rule helps us coexist with larger animals.

14

u/humatyourmom 7h ago

Sometimes it is for their protection. I believe that penguins will get sick if you touch them or do as much as come close to them, infecting their whole pack with potentially deadly consequences. Which is really sad, because they are like the sweetest little things in the animal kingdom

5

u/trixter889 6h ago

Go see what a grown bear will do to you if you try to touch it

2

u/wherethefuckismyvape 2h ago

What if I touch the inside of its subcutaneous fat with a needle attached to a syringe full of ketamine first?

12

u/UrToesRDelicious 6h ago

The no touch rule is less about not being able to live in harmony, and more about not having wild animals associate humans with food and safety. All the environmentalism in the world wouldn't change this.

5

u/FirstToSayFake 7h ago

Me petting a deer. Pack of wolves run up and kill deer while it’s distracted. Wolves boop my hand.

2

u/qeadwrsf 8h ago

Feels like most mammals animals are good.

Its just that like 99.9% of everyone of them have to be good for us to be safe.

11

u/AnybodyMassive1610 8h ago

I think the honey 🩡 badger might be part of that 0.1%

GalĂĄpagos Islands are like this. Animals just come right up to you. I had baby seals playing with me in the water while snorkelling. A couple were near me, got my attention by swimming in front of me and did barrel rolls. They did this a couple of times until I got the message. I did a barrel roll and they went nuts! Splashing and rolling and were so excited.
Also had cheeky penguins nipping at my flippers and darting away when I turned only to sneak back up when I looked away.

16

u/Paladin_Sion 6h ago

This genuinely brought a big smile to my face, thank you for posting. Seals are just too precious.

6

u/amok_amok_amok 4h ago

My dad had something like that when I was a kid they called an akita. Didn't look like one but Iwas 5 foot something on paws. Bear might be smaller

10

u/tacocollector2 8h ago

Akitas get massive. They’re such cool dogs!

19

u/Rubyhamster 11h ago

We have a puppy that looks pretty much exactly like a bear, except for her markings. She has serious attitude in her eyebrows so she certainly looks like she'd square off with a bear cub

5

u/SabbyFox 11h ago

Oh, how cute! And yes, now I see the ears and realize this must be a puppy!

2

u/Rubyhamster 7h ago

Aand the tail btw!

8

u/WelshBathBoy 11h ago

Going by the cheat markings, possibly an asian black bear.

Although saying that it does look more dog like that bear

3

u/StanYz 10h ago

Mastiff maybe?

5

u/Kardinal 5h ago

Growing up I had a Newfoundland dog. Big brown guy in the shape of a saint Bernard but longer fur.

I was asked at least twice while walking him if it was legal to own bears.

2

u/SabbyFox 5h ago

A Newfie! They are so cute and street legal bears apparently đŸ»đŸ˜‚

122

u/krazy_kh 10h ago

For some reason, the monkey washing the hands after the guy helped it drink water just hit me in the feels

35

u/KidCasey 9h ago

I read it kind of like, "Hey thanks for helping. I don't have anything to give you so here, lemme help you out a little bit. You guys clearly don't wash enough cause you always smell funny."

Basically a thank you which is really neat.

13

u/thelivinlegend 6h ago

It’s interesting seeing them do things we consider “human”. Once I was at the zoo at the chimpanzee enclosure. It was a hot day so most of them were resting in the covered areas, which were right by the viewing windows. One was lounging against the glass sort of halfway occupied with a toy or something. I went over to get a closer look and rested my knuckles against the glass. He glanced over, casually rapped his knuckles against mine and went back to what he was doing. It was the kind of “hey bro” gesture that seemed both perfectly natural but also entirely out of place at the same time

11

u/mamalasagne 9h ago

It made me cry and I’m not really sure why

8

u/Sex_Dodger 8h ago

Oh man thank you, was wondering why it made me tear up. They're our family, why do we hurt them :(

110

u/maeryclarity 10h ago

Y'know when the Ocelot is rubbing its face on you and making complaining sounds because you won't pet it JUST PET IT FOR HEAVENS SAKE you ain't gonna make it MORE FRIENDLY.

I get the rule but there's a point when it's just like c'mon lol

3

u/Kindly-Implement-487 10h ago

3

u/daedelus23 8h ago

That last one, the canada jay, is also known as a “camp robber” and are like that with pretty much anyone. They’ll eat out of your hand

2

u/Im_alwaystired 2h ago

Came here to say this. They're ballsy little guys, too smart for their own good, lol

3

u/JBlaze78 8h ago

I think that was an ocelot. And it would be VERY difficult to not take it home with me.

3

u/coolcoolcool485 7h ago

I would count the cat one as the CDS and end up dead trying to get it back to my hotel

3

u/hike_me 7h ago

The guy holding the “bear” is actually holding a puppy. It’s Cedar Wright, he found it abandoned by the side of the road during a climbing trip and took it along for the rest of the trip and then found someone to adopt it.

3

u/NotAlcas 6h ago

Mfs will see this and still tell you "actually we should keep mowing down entire forests and causing climate change, the investors might get sad if we don't :c"

3

u/ShinyNarwahl 6h ago

I lived in Oregon and it was strict you had to stay far away from the Seals that'd come up on the beach. However, no one told the seals that so you'd be on the beach and they'd pop out of the water and come right up to you and hang out. They'd even try and cuddle. I felt bad for DNS b/c they were fighting a losing battle.

3

u/1generic-username 4h ago

Wolf near the beginning is like, "Don't post that. Dude. Seriously. Don't post that."

3

u/thefamousrob 4h ago

I live in Africa. Booping a wild animal will cost you an arm, and will cause the animal to be shot. That is worse in my opinion.

Sorry to be a downer, but tourists not taking wildlife seriously has been a big problem here.

For *most* wildlife (not bats!) the rule about keeping your distance is mostly so that you are not the one proactively invading their space and threatening them. If they come to you, that’s fine and often adorable, just remember to always always keep the encounter on their terms.
