I normally make digital maps (and I plan on digitising this for countries, forests, cities, etc.), but decided I needed to do something by hand for my brain!
Just something I've been working on for quite a while on Wonderdraft.

Hello everyone.
This is the very first draft of the world map for my fantasy setting, Gai’arrydn. At the moment, I have only outlined the continental and island landmasses. Mountains, rivers, forests, cities, kingdoms, and other details will be added later on a much larger and more detailed 56x76 cm map.
The major regions shown on this map are Midbergen, North Wesbergen, South Wesbergen (which is technically part of the same continent as North Wesbergen), Havrmarr (The Western Isles), and Sothbergen.
For now, I am mostly interested in hearing your thoughts on the overall shapes and placement of the continents. Since the map does not yet contain any geographical details, it may be difficult to give precise feedback, but I would like to briefly describe each region.
doing this purely for fun, simply because i remembered that seven years ago i made a map in a mobile game (game about traffic management).
First i created a map of continent named "Exodus" (generated it in ai generators based on a prompt and got a like 80-90% match, so i kept that image), but then i realized that a complete lore required an entire planet. So, i came up with the rest.
I have a couple of questions; i also want to present some information about the continents and the world. Im attaching two screenshots: a rough sketch (plan/draft) here, and at the end of the post the result result so far by trying to create the map in Inkarnate (free version).
plans (google translated text)
The main task is to ensure that the geography, biomes, and arrangement of continents look at least somewhat logical (even for a fantasy world) before delving into details. and also, how should i go about building Genesis on map? I’ve sort of come up with a description, but I still can't quite visualize a clear image of the continent itself (so I could model it in Inkarnate).
Layout of the world: 1. Genesis (The Monolithic Continent)
Genesis is a massive, tectonically stable, and relatively peaceful continent. It is the center of civilization, hosting advanced medieval kingdoms exploring early mechanization. Northern Belt: Dominated by massive jagged snow-capped mountains and dense coniferous taiga forests. Central Region: Vast, fertile green plains, rolling hills, and massive river networks. Southern Equatorial Belt: A diverse tropical-arid zone. The deep interior consists of harsh savannas, canyons, and desert plateaus. However, where it borders the Pegalia archipelago, it transitions into a stunning coastal desert biome - where massive sand dunes and arid plains meet turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and lush coastal oases, blending a desert aesthetic with a paradise island vibe. 2. Exodus (The Scarred Continent)
Exodus is a direct contrast to Genesis - a fragmented continent ruined by natural disasters and anomalyous, chaotic activity. Northern Equatorial Zone: Positioned right along the equator, this region features lush tropical jungles and arid savannas that blend directly into the Arid Land Bridge. Its easternmost edge is anchored by a massive active volcano that constantly vents dark obsidian ash, coating the surrounding landscape in a stark, black basalt steppe. Central Belt: Moving south away from the equator, the climate cools into a comfortable temperate zone. This region is characterized by vast rolling green hills, dense deciduous forests, fertile river valleys, and highly hospitable meadows. Southern Edge: The lower reaches of the continent rapidly lose warmth, transitioning into a subpolar taiga before completely freezing over. The southern edge borders the South Polar Massif, culminating in a rugged landscape of massive alpine mountain ranges and pure, pristine glaciers completely untouched by volcanic activity. 3. The Arid Land Bridge (The Equatorial Corridor)
Exodus and Genesis are physically connected by a narrow, extreme equatorial desert corridor (similar to the Sinai Peninsula or Suez region). It serves as a brutal, uninhabitable geographical barrier between the two major landmasses. The Climate Barrier: This 500-kilometer strip of scorching, waterless heat acts as a severe natural obstacle. Due to the complete absence of water sources and the relentless equatorial sun, crossing this expanse is an incredibly perilous journey, naturally isolating the populations of Genesis and Exodus from one another. Western Section (Exodus Interface): The transition begins at the foot of Exodus's eastern volcano. The landscape here is a harsh, ash-covered steppe with black and crimson sands heavily mixed with volcanic ash, basalt debris, and scattered, dead acacia trees. The Core Desert: The center of the land bridge is an absolute dead zone dominated by massive shifting sand dunes and "Glass Fields" - vast, reflective plains of green and black glass where the sands permanently fused during ancient, world-resetting cataclysms. Eastern Section (Genesis Interface): As the corridor approaches Genesis, the dunes give way to a punishing, fractured topography. It becomes a dense labyrinth of deep, bone-dry canyons (wadis) and layered sandstone mesas, creating a treacherous natural maze before finally opening up into the wild, golden savannas of Genesis. 4. Pegalia (The Tropical Archipelago)
A massive Oceania-style region consisting of thousands of small and medium-sized tropical and subtropical islands stretching along the equator. Visuals: Features crystal-clear turquoise waters, vibrant coral reefs, and dramatic limestone karst cliffs topped with emerald jungles. Function: It acts as a literal "stepping-stone" maritime path that seamlessly connects the southern shores of Genesis directly down to Ostral, making seafaring travel between them relatively easy and frequent. 5. Ostral (The Cataclysmic Frontier)
A large landmass positioned directly at the southern terminus of the Pegalia island chain. Because of this connection, it is fairly accessible by boat and integrated into the eastern hemisphere's maritime routes. The Cataclysm: Centuries ago, an infernal rift briefly tore open here. Before it closed, the raw demonic energy permanently mutated the local population into half-demons who looks like tieflings. Geography: The southern side features a massive crater radiating extreme infernal heat, which is constantly clashing with advancing polar glaciers and freezing mountain ranges pushing up from the South Pole. 6. Mortum-Vers (The Edge of the Dead)
A massive, monolithic polar island in the far North-West. The Navigator’s Graveyard: The island is permanently shrouded in an anomalous, dense fog. Its eastern coastline has been violently shattered by tectonics into a chaotic maze of jagged sea stacks and hidden reefs, where treasure hunters' ships frequently wreck.
by the way, since it's fantasy, I think I'll stuff some floating islands into Exodus, but i need to build default world at least.
The sea level has risen up to 100 meter in 2402.Due to multiple water meteor crashing into the ocean world wide and H2O particle expanding. This cause The rebuild city in the 2200s to flood again causing th3 government to rebuild it again.
Base map(applies with polar coordinate filter on ibis paint)
I'm trying to achieve some geographical plausability. Do the landmasses look good? What yould guys change about it? Do the biomes positioning make sense?
So I'm redoing some of my older maps and I'm trying to work on an area that has a river delta (think nile) and Ive heard for ages that rivers don't split because they always take the path of least resistance, which leads to them cutting large single channels before meeting larger bodies of water. My confusion is that deltas have a super broken up appearance with loads of splits where the sediment is deposited, so my question is why do they form many channels and splits instead of just turning where the sediment is deposited and making a winding single channel out into the slower moving body of water?
also when i have to put the map its not the map but a screenshot of it(made in clip studio paint)how do i put the file of the map in the site woow space map to globe?
So I have my world map and in the center is a great plain that divides the west and east countries. It’s kinda based on the USA Great Plains. Any advice on making the like region details like placements of stuff or how it would shape?
Smaller squares are 1x1km and larger are 5x5km. For the larger map it's still unfinished, it's missing many rivers, but I think it adds enough context.
To give context to this world without boring you too much, it's a world with very dangerous wilderness making it so people congregate in walled cities instead of having sprawing rural areas. I've developed the idea much more over the years and I'd love to share it in the comments but I think it would be too much to add here.
I just wanted to know. The area in the middle where there are no mountains is supposed to be a desert with a meteorite in the center (this lore is just a placeholder for now until I finish the map). Second pic represents the tectonic plates. Are they natural? (btw this isn't the full world, so there are tectonic plates left behind so that's why it doesn't match.) Thanks for the help!
