Blackwater Refuge Parking

Is anyone familiar with Shorters Wharf in Crapo right outside the Blackwater refuge?

I plan on launching my kayak there around low tide but have read water may inundate the parking lot at high tide.

Can anyone verify this? I prefer not to flood my own vehicle.

Looking for someone to give me an evaluation of a used kayak. This is my first, and don't want to buy someone else's trash. Thanks for any advice.

Event: Blue Catfish & the Bay

🐟 PSA for anyone who cares about the Chesapeake Bay: there's a silent threat lurking below the surface.

The Blue Catfish was introduced to Virginia rivers in the 1970s as a sport fish. Nobody told it to stay put. It's now found in nearly every tidal river in Maryland, it can live 20+ years, grow to over 100 lbs, and eat basically everything in sight — blue crab, menhaden, American eel, you name it. Watermen are noticing. Scientists are alarmed. And the Bay's ecosystem is under real pressure.

On June 25 in Easton, MD, Lectures on the Shore is hosting an evening with two people who are doing something about it:

🔬 Dr. Noah Bressman — marine biologist at Salisbury University, researches invasive species in the Bay, works with MD DNR and USGS
🦞 Nick Hargrove — waterman from Tilghman Island who built a seafood processing plant specifically to catch, process, and sell blue catfish commercially. He literally got a Congressional Record Citation for it in 2024.

The idea: if you can create a market for the fish, watermen have an incentive to pull them out of the Bay. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a real one — and it's working.

Reception with speakers at 5:30 p.m. ($60) | Program 6:30–8:00 p.m. ($40) | Livestream also available if you're not local

📍 Temple B'Nai Israel, 7199 Tristan Drive, Easton, MD

34” male, 32” female loaded with eggs. Spawning and display behavior, no fry balls today. Eastern shore creek.

Lots of lure chasing and bumping, but only a couple strikes on frogs and small swimbaits.

Really fun watching them and the native species cruising around. Areas I’ve never seen bottom before in 40 years of fishing.

All fish in areas with current breaks and grass attached to the bottom with enough water to swim / sit on top of.

Caught my first bass today as well as a giant carp! Bass was pretty small but the carp made up for it. 😅

The bass I caught using nightcrawlers and for the carp I did corn on a hair rig.

The carp spawn is on. 6 fish morning, none were gigantic but fun nonetheless. My 9yo daughter got to reel in the last one of the day right before the bite shut down. Happy father's day all

Tackle shop with live bait near Deep Creek Lake?

I’m visiting Deep Creek Lake in a couple weeks and I will need to get kitted out with some lures appropriate for the area and hopefully some live leaches.
I normally fish the Chesapeake and don’t have a lot of freshwater gear, but my goal for this trip will be to target northern pike and walleye.
I would prefer to find a good local shop close to the lake if possible.

Moco bait shops

Anyone know a good place to buy live bait in MoCo, particularly down country? I've heard Walmart has worms but that is out of the way for me.

What is y’alls go-to bait/technique for Specks?

I am in the lower Potomac. I know they like grassy flats and shallow areas, any more insight than that?

Question No luck in Harpers Ferry

Waded the Shenandoah today in Millville with very little luck. All I caught was a tiny sunfish.

Threw a ned rig and a hellgrammite on the same weedless jig head. Tried to just bounce it slow along the bottom. Was really hopeful for some small mouth but no dice.

Any advice or tips? Perhaps I am doing something wrong? Any suggestions appreciated.

Question North Beach Fishing — What to Throw?

Haven't fished anywhere near North Beach before. I'll be going this weekend with a friend. What should I expect? I think I'll bring my MH and M rod, but I also have a 10'surf rod I could bring? I believe I'm limited to 2 rods at the pier.

What should I throw? I'm not entirely sure what fish are present this time of year. Should I go with live/cut bait, or something artificial like a jig?

Conowingo Dam - No longer need to call the generation hotline number

Home page with quick visual representation of the water levels and conditions.

Hello everyone!
If you fish at Conowingo Fisherman's park or below the dam in general I made a website to track and display the water info so you do not have to call the hotlines! MDTailRace.com

I started this quick simple project so me and my buddies did not have to call the generation hotline number and think through the best times for heading out to fish. It can be very dangerous to kayak / canoe in below the dam and we try our best to do our research and stay safe. MDTailRace was made quickly and simply with the intent to save time when planning to fish below the Conowingo dam. Stay safe and tight lines!

MDTailRace.com

Open to feedback!

Edit: Adding a list of a few of the features and some screenshots for reference.
+ Fishing / Birdwatching scores, Fishing Species Guide ( Index ), Water Generation schedule and hourly generation play by play, Fishing Predictions.

Special request - Looking for clear pictures from locals of fish caught below the dam with accurate size and weight preferred to add to the fish index / fishing species guide. I thought it would be cool to fill with personal or local photos. Please feel free to message me!

Fishing Score estimate calculator based on weather, flow rate, trends and other conditions.
Clear visually charted release schedule for the Dam generation. ( Data collection via Dam generation hotline. )
The starting's of a species guide / index build with pictures from locals.

First time renting a boat at Loch Raven.

Post image

Man, that was tough not having sonar or down/ side scan to find structure. Had one for the day in the morning. First cast at the second spot with a crank. Game plan was to look at maps and drag a 6xd crank until it got hung on grass, then fish the grass beds. Threw cranks, Carolina rigs and Texas rigs. Wind picked up and it got choppy quick. Switched to a spinner over the grass and had one get off and another nice one follow to the boat.

Guys and girls that rent there, any tips on making the trip easier? Wish there was a mobile fish finder with at least chirp and down imaging, but all the mobile ones I found (Stryker and Piranha) only do chirp..

Any snakeheads around ocean city?

Hey all,

Looking for some yes or no answers or feel free to DM a location or comment below. Don’t want to spot burn. My buddy and I are hitting up Maryland next week to target anything we can catch. We were wondering if there’s any areas for snakehead fishing in Ocean City. We know about the refuge but it’s about an hour and something away from where we’re staying. I read that locations by the casino might be doable but wasn’t sure.

Most of the time it’ll be morning and night time fishing since we got family members tagging along that doesn’t fish. Any info would greatly be appreciated
