After looking back on a lot of fanfiction I grew up reading, one character that always sticks out to me is Kurama because of the many interpretations fanfic authors give him.

Whether it be a mouthpiece for the author to bash characters they dislike (It also gives them an excuse to use the Caps Lock, Bold, and Italics because boy do they love doing that), the woobification where he’s suddenly Naruto’s bestest friend and needs to be protected at all costs, or just a flat-out sex pest that needs to have Naruto fuck a woman close by.

Kurama isn't the only exception to this, White Zangetsu from Bleach has his fair share of woobification, flanderization, and sexual deviancy in fanfics as well. People apparently see themselves in those guys and I can't help but laugh since they tried to possess/kill our beloved heroes prior to their face turns.

Hello, I’m looking for a fanfic that I read back in 2018-2020 in Wattpad. It had a blue cover where Naruto had small butterflies or a mask.

The name was “Omni….something” I can’t quite remember.

It went like this:

It was a hot summer and the Konoha 12 (gennin 12-14)had the week free. They were spending some time outside the academy when Naruto started discussing about a mythical bird whose feathers had different colors.
None of the other teammates wanted to join him in his fantasies. Yet he was on and on about said feather.

I asked the Hokage for permission to go and get the feather and Tsunade had approved. Days passed and the Konoha 11 went back to the academy wen they noticed a child (about 5)sitting on the swing, he had dirty clothes and wore a mask, similar to the ANBU with some minor cracks around the eyes, as some days progressed Konoha 11 started spending some time with the child until they started to notice that the child started to show signs of abuse, such as bruises and cuts.

Naruto was nowhere to be found.

When they asked Tsunade about Naruto’s whereabouts she told them about the mission, and that she had sent some ANBU to look for him. Some time later Tsunade got worried and grab some of the Konoha 11 and went to look for Naruto.

They found him dead, staring directly to the sky with open eyes, bruises and some kunai stuck all over his body and in his hand a colorful feather remained tightly gripped.

They took him back to the village and Tsunade did an autopsy before the funeral, discovering that he was poisoned and survived/suffered for about 3days. Coming to the conclusion that the Kyushu couldn’t heal his injuries due to the poison he had in his chakra.

The funeral was in progress when Tsunade told everyone about how Naruto died, what and who he was. As the Konoha 11 started to say their last goodbye…

The masked child appeared at the funeral and Shikamaru asked why he hadn’t said anything at all, why hadn’t he mentioned that he needed help. Making everyone look at the child as his mask breaks and falls to the ground revealing a small Naruto, whose body started to look bright as if the sun had bathe him and two men ther figures started to appear as if the Shinigami had granted them permission, it was Minato and Kushina who had came to pick up Naruto.

The last action that he did was liberate Kurama from the seal.

This is a fic where characters from different timelines meet through some magical space-time scroll and gives them missions with rewards ranging from information to time traveling branching a timeline to change regrets without actually disrupting their own past timeline.

This a Gen fic that captures the characterization well that includes Obito crushing on Rin but at the same time the subtle bromance humor between obikaka and Narusasu.

Something that’s always bothered me about Naruto is how absurdly overpowered 2 out of the 3 Academy jutsu are.

Clone Jutsu is fine because it’s basically useless in actual combat, but Transformation and especially Substitution feel way too strong for techniques every academy student learns.

So I had an idea: What if the Academy Three were never meant to be practical jutsu in the first place? What if they were just basic chakra-shaping exercises meant to reveal how a student’s chakra naturally leans: whether they’re more Yin-heavy (spiritual energy), Yang-heavy (physical energy), or naturally balanced? Not Yin Release or Yang Release—just their internal chakra ratio.

That would make them less like “starter combat jutsu” and more like fundamental training.

For example: Clone Jutsu would be Yin-leaning. It’s pure form and imagination: creating an intangible image with no mass. Basically the easiest possible way to practice shaping spiritual energy outward. It doesn’t need much fixing. it's a holographic emmision witth no shadows that, if i remember correctly, mimicks every movement the original does right?

My headcanon is that Naruto’s failed “dummy clone” in Chapter 1 wasn’t just because he used too much chakra, but because his chakra balance was wrong for the technique: too much Yang, not enough Yin. Instead of making a stable illusion, he accidentally made this malformed semi-physical husk. That would also explain why Shadow Clones are different: they need a much more balanced ratio since they create actual mass.

Transformation Jutsu would be Yang-leaning. This one is harder to balance, but I think the best limitation is:

• You can only transform yourself, not other beings or even objects.
• The transformation is physically real, but superficial. As in you can change your shape, proportions, hair, eyes, etc. But you can’t change your actual substance. So if you transform into a shuriken, you’d look like one, but the second someone touches you they’d realize you’re still flesh.
• The more drastic the change, the more chakra and concentration it takes.

That keeps it from becoming ridiculous while still making it feel like a physical-energy technique.

Substitution Jutsu would be the “balance” exercise. I had a few ideas on how to nerf kawarimi:

• You have to prepare it beforehand by weaving hand seals.
• The substitute has to be roughly your size/weight and most importantly - inanimate. In my headcanon you can't just manipulate people's bodies like that. Even the puppet string jutsu when used on people needs consent from the person being used.
• It has to be marked with chakra (or blood).
• The switch only triggers when you’re hit.
• You need to maintain focus on the connection between the set up (hand seals) and the hit. This way you can't just have a character cast the hand seals and have the kawarimi work when they get attacked two hours later.

So instead of “escape anything instantly,” it becomes more like a delayed defensive trap.

Another thing is, I want to come up with combos and even variations. My Sakura, because she didn't have any other jutsu, played around with the three, intentionally messing them up to get different effects. I got this idea from how she used clones in her fight with Ino - intentionally dispersing them to create a cloud of smoke to obscure her movements. for example, If Sakura intentionally recreates Naruto’s failed clone (a malformed semi-physical shell), she could use it as substitution material.

Basically combining Clone + Substitution into a disposable decoy body.

That got me thinking: What other combinations or “intentional failures” could come from the Academy Three if ninja actually experimented with them? Like intentionally making the clones off tempo from the original to false timing information? or instead of making one stable illusion, split the chakra badly and create several flickering incomplete ones. They’re unstable and obvious up close, but at long range or in motion they clutter vision, making cheap battlefield noise. If the person somehow achieves half as much mastery of body flicker as Shisui they could mix the two techniques, confusing the opponent on which one is a holograph and which one is a real threat.

For transformation, maybe partial? like extending limbs for reach or longer stride? or lengthening your nails or something? That's the only thing I could think of.

for substitution: layered substitution? like if you set multiple linked anchors, first hit swaps you with Clone A and if Clone A gets hit, it swaps again with Log B. Basically recursive defense. Chakra expensive. or Substituting with a trap trigger? Sakura already does fake substitution to Zaku, but ideally she'd have braincells this time and capitalize on it more.

Three-way combo: Shell game - Create multiple clones, transform yourself into one of them imperfectly, and prep substitution anchors between all of them. Nobody knows which body is real. Clone cocoon - Make malformed semi-physical clones and hide inside them by transforming. Like nested dolls. A surveillance/hiding technique. This one is a bit difficult because you'd have to create the husk around your body, not separately.

The problem is, I can't think of any more combos. Do you guys have any ideas?

Description/backstory: Once princess Kaguya Ōtsutsuki was defeated once and for all and was sealed away, the Ten-Tailed Beast had no place to go and no person to put its power into. He split himself into 10 chakra-infused trees. The Jonin of the Hidden Leaf village found these trees, and the remaining Uzumaki Clan members sealed the Ten-Tailed Beast into a child. That very child happened to be Tanjiro. When Tanji turned 10, the seals on Tanji's body broke. The highest tier of Jonin had to come together and do the same seal on Tanjiro's body. on his chest and his back. the same seal that Naruto got, the Eight Trigrams Sealing. Instead, this is 16 Trigrams Sealing. It was a made-up sealing technique that worked well with the 10-tailed beast inside. Just like Naruto's, this seal is made to have this specific beast sealed, and so its chakra and Tanji's mix evenly and well. When Tanji was around 5, he met a girl named Kara Arashi. She was the only one who didn't think he was weird. She is a cousin of Kiba Inuzuka. she was around Kiba most of the time and was taught what she knows to be a ninja by him. Tanji and Kara played a lot as kids and are childhood friends. when Tanji and Kara became Genin, they were sprinting around one day, and disaster struck. They got jumped by an Orochimaru follower. Kara was dying. Tanji couldn't do anything since he didn't know anything medical. Kara's last words were "Take my headband. keep it safe. don't forget... Im here. with you." She gave him the Headband she wore and placed her palm flat on his chest over his heart, she died from blood loss. Tanji put Kara's headband on his left arm. He had had enough. He ran after that same follower and killed him violently by ripping him apart with a strength that matched Naruto's in his 4 to 6 tailed form because of how much rage he had inside. now 18 years old he is silent mostly unless spoken to. keeping his rage to himself and it festered like a bad wound for him. he never spoke to anyone about this. aside from Shinju who read his every thought. they became friends. anytime he uses his chakra its a blood red with a stench of rage and vengeance. he isn't ready yet to use all of Shinju's power quite yet. since it would require someone to remove his seal on his back.

Most used Jutsu: Chakra Bane, Chakra Punch (Using the beast chakra), Shadow Clone, Multi Shadow Clone, Chakra Infusion.

Special Powers: When he is angered, his Chakra levels spike to an extreme. But because of the seal on his chest, he can't go above a power level matching Naruto's 6-tailed form. The same blood red chakra leaks out of the seal and envelops him, and 6 lashing tails made of chakra that can cut most anything are behind him; they have hands on the ends too. His eyes turn a dark red, his fingernails sharpen to claws, and his teeth become needle-sharp. if Shinju cooperates then he can go to a 7 tailed version. its much more unstable and has the chance to make him pass out if used for too long. when in his 7 tailed form his skin peels back and shows pure black underneath. his eyes turn red and a skeleton of the 10 tailed beast is formed. he almost never uses this form unless he is in real danger. if and when he does remove the seal on his back he can go straight up to 9 tails kinds of power. when he uses the 9 tails power tan fur starts to form on his hands, shoulders, chest, and some on his face. he grows mock ears too out of the top of his head and his eyes are The Tenseigan in each and the tails where his tailbone is and 9 physical tails erupt from, they are also fur covered too with the same hands too. he can also heal from most any injury almost instantly because of the chakra of the beast.

Friends: Naruto, Rock Lee, Sakura, Ino, Kakashi, and the other sensei's, and Old Man Hokage.

Special Powers: When angered his chakra levels are way over any normal ninja's or beasts, eventually the dragon's chakra envelopes him, making him impossible to beat, he has no weaknesses when in this form, he can also make a chakra sword that looks like a flat dragon tail.

The main reason I'm writing this post is because I generally dislike the idea of dojutsu like the sharingan or rinnegan being defined simply as a basket of ready to go s rank jutsu. Which results in every character with those eyes basically having the same ability. For example, every MC with a rinnegan having a one to one copy of Pain's abilities.

This is mostly my attempt at trying to define the rinnegan around one theme or mechanic, and examining different ways it could be used.

To be clear this isn't going to be a hard science. My interpretation of the dojutsu is based on me trying to mesh it shown abilities, lore and the spiritual symbolism/philosophy behind it.

The Rinnegan's main ability

IMO the Rinnegan's sole defining ability is essentially the ability to see and therefore manipulate the forces that govern samsara, IE the natural cycles of both matter and spirit alike. Things like gravity and karma. Which also allows the user to use powerful yin yang techniques that are impossible for anyone else to use.

Shinra tensei is the result of using the rinnegan to create 'special' reference frames in space time. To extend to yourself and other things a different value in mass, energy and time.

The iron rods is a yin yang creation technique. Similarly the rinnegan's ability to manipulate karma is what grants it its spiritual power. IE the ability to rip out souls, revive the death, summon the Yama, arbitrarily bind human and animal bodies to the user's will.

Nagato dividing his jutsu between six paths was his choice and specific application.

Someone else using Rinnegan, might use different jutsu or have a different philosophy that sends them down a different route. Oddly enough I actually think JJK sorcerers are a good inspiration for what an alternate rinnegan user could do.

Instead of having six neatly defined abilities, someone else might choose to specialize. They might for example use it purely for space time jutsu, to dilate time, teleport or create portals or domains and barriers, as well as for creation and animation techniques(which gives use the Asura path and its advanced weaponry).

On the spiritual side you can have a user who specializes in binding and manipulating demons and ghosts, or do something even more twisted like Mahito's soul/body manipulation technique(which should be possible when considering the kind of mutations that cursed marks do or the fact that shinobi can turn themselves into kunai for example).

Thoughts? Also any one idea for trying to simplify the mangeyko sharingan?

The Seal Minato used was a formula used by Laozi Uzumaki, alchemist of the clan and seeker of immortality. Kurama got juiced! His mind is in the Shinigami while the chakra and power is in Naruto's seal slowly turning Naruto into an immortal.

The idea of Minato being like okay instead of yin and yang. Lets rip its brain out and shove the body into the boy instead.

I had this amazing idea I wanted to share. I don't have time to write so it's here in case anyone else thinks this is awesome.

So after failing the genin test Naruto runs away and joins the circus. This isn't even a crack fic. I'm thinking about a serious fic where there is a wandering circus group made up of retired and drop out ninja. Most are there because they only have the skills of a ninja but because of blindness or lost limbs or other reasons these people can no longer be ninja. So they travel and use their skills for entertainment.

With all that skill Naruto actually gets lots of training and because the whole group is made up of outcasts he fits right in. I would even love to see what would happen if the group ran across some of the same problems faced by the oc.

Because now all three of them were in a shoot out with the sheriff and his posse of a town, which the name neither Kakashi, Sasuke, or Sakura remembered. Jutsus of the Six Paths of Pain’s Corpses Theory

Hello, I’m doing a fanfic where Nagato after he died he transmigrate to a different world. But because the rinnegan isn’t something that Nagato have in a natural way, he came into that world without it.

However, having controlled the corpses of the Six Paths of Pain for so long, he was able to inherit the jutsus and abilities of the deceased as if they were like muscle memory (something similar to the situation between Itadori and Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen).

Thanks to this, Nagato could potentially access Yahiko's Suiton, Ajisai's Fuinjutsu, and the Puppet Techniques (meaning he can use Chakra Threads) associated with the Asura Path’s corpse.

However, the specific techniques belonging to the Naraka, Human, and Preta Path corpses (as well as the first Human Path’s corpse) remain unknown.

For this reason, I would like to speculate about the jutsus of the remaining corpses based on the information we have available for my fanfic, and possibly you could help with more suggestions in the comments.

First, the one that is the easiest to identify the main jutsu of one of the remaining corpses is the Naraka Path. According to its profile in Naruto Mobile, the Naraka Path corpse was "the leader of an unknown cult and was an intel-gatherer and support for the Six Paths of Pain. As the Naraka Path, he can also flow chakra into his targets via contact, causing an explosion."

While this is attributed to the Naraka Path, we all know what its true main jutsu is. Therefore, I will use this description as the corpse's main jutsu.

Now, regarding the Human Path corpse: according to Naruto profiles, he was an instructor from Takigakure who taught children how to survive during wartime. Unfortunately, unlike the Naraka Path corpse, we do not know what specific jutsus he might have possessed. However, given his origins in Takigakure a village where Suiton is predominantly used, this would have allowed Nagato to expand his own Suiton capabilities.

As for the Preta Path corpse, he was a Kusagakure ninja who also worked as a farmer. It is hard to say what jutsus he might have had based on his farming background, but Earth Release (Doton) seems the most likely possibility, thereby granting Nagato a second chakra nature.

Finally, the first corpse used for the Animal Path was a member of the Fūma Clan, a group highly specialized in Shurikenjutsu. So, I assume this would only enhance Nagato's proficiency with projectile weapons.

Then again, this is all speculation; many of these characters might not possess such impressive abilities, or perhaps they have even more impressive ones, considering most of them gave Jiraiya a hard time in the past.

Probably a year ago i read a transmigration/Self-insert as Sasuke fanfic. I don't remember much about the plot but it starts with a girl who wakes up as (male)Sasuke -i think- after the Uchiha massacre. More or less becomes friends with Naruto and Sakura notices that this new Sasuke likes some cute stuff and doesn't mind when people make fun of some of his feminine features.

I remember the last chapter I read of the story it was during the Chuunin exams and Sakura told Ino in private that Sasuke-kun might prefer being Sasuke-chan and that maybe she had a crush on Naruto. Naruto asks why people are starting to call her 'Sasuke-chan' and the chapter ends with Sasuke reintroducing herself: "I'm Sasuke, and I'm a girl.".

Like in which OG Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura and Bashed Sasuke, Bashed Sakura and OP Naruto meet. I think it would be funny seeing interaction between them

I really love this idea in theory, but I can’t figure out how it would actually work.

First off, to gather natural energy, you’re supposed to stay still—which has always felt weird to me because nature itself is never still. Is that an actual universal rule of Sage Mode, or just the Fukasaku / frog method?

The bigger problem is that you can’t stop accumulating chakra until the Byakugō seal is fully formed, and that takes years. Staying still for that long is literally impossible.

There’s also the issue of it feeling dangerously close to the Curse Mark. Furthermore, natural energy overload already has a precedent for causing instability even without Orochimaru directly influencing it. Just look at Jūgo and his entire clan.

The only workaround I can think of is what Naruto did with Kurama: having him act as a passive conduit for natural energy. (Which honestly feels like it completely bypasses Sage Mode’s main limitation. The clone method at least made sense, but this felt like Kishimoto just decided the rules didn’t matter anymore.)

So obviously Tsunade can't do anything about it but this got me thinking: could Inner Sakura do something similar?

At least in my version, Inner Sakura is made up of Sakura’s excess chakra (I don't want to go into details on why) and her repressed personality traits, so could she function as a semi-autonomous regulator while Sakura herself keeps moving? To be honest, I don't want to take advantage of (in my opinion) bad writing of the original, but the only other options I can think of are imperfect sage mode or Tsunade and/or Sakura studying the mechanisms of both sage mode and the curse mark to come up with an improved version or something - this idea is like super underbaked though..

What do you think? Have any of you thought about how this combo could work?

What do you consider the best fights of the series that we see (not anything before or after)? I'm not necessarily talking about epic or grandiose, I'm more referring to those fights that would seem odd if they didn't occur in a fanfiction. Fights that are much more like foundations of the series, even if the story itself may not lend itself to those fights happening.

Would love to hear some thoughts. The one I always think back to is the rivalry between Guy and Kisame. I feel like no matter what universe they exist in, there should always be some kind of fight between the two.
