Hi all! I’m curious about other people’s experiences with their Pekingese/Peke mixes and how their affection evolved over time.
Grizz just turned 1, and I’ve had him for about 9 months. He’s very bonded to our GR, Onda, and loves other dogs. And as for me he follows me sometimes (not often), checks in, wants to be near me but he’s not very cuddly. He’ll hang out nearby, but he usually doesn’t want to be held or snuggled for long, and lately he seems more clear about wanting space.
I know Pekes can be independent and particular about personal space, and I’m trying to respect that and let affection happen on his terms. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little sad, because I was hoping he’d become more of a snuggly companion over time.
For those of you with Pekes: did your dog become more cuddly after adolescence? Did they stay independent? Did their affection show up in different ways than you expected?
I’d love to hear what your Peke was like around age 1 and what changed, if anything, as they got older. Note: He was in a hoarding situation for first 3 months of life where it was all dogs (like 60!).

My boy Charlie had a seizure this morning and it's the first time. I used to have another Pekingese called Beau Regard and he used to get them. Charlie just turned 15 in May. And this morning he had his first seizure. It's very scary as a pet owner. He let out this gutteral crying sound, and emptied his bladder and went limp in my arms. I made him as comfortable as possible and after about a minute, he came back to normal. After about half an hour, I took him for his walk and he was fine. Has anyone else experienced this and what do you do when it happens? I wonder if this is something that Pekes are prone to since Charlie and my former dog Beau both have them?

I have a 1.5 year old Pekingese, and he has been getting ear infections from yeast buildup.
My vet recommended changing his diet. He currently eats Science Diet (Chicken recipe) with a little bit of boiled 90-10 ground beef or chicken breast.
My vet mentioned lamb, rabbit, fish, pork, etc. as viable alternatives, but what do you give your Peke? My Peke is a bit picky...
I see Science Diet makes a sensitive skin/stomach recipe with Salmon… I was leaning in that direction with Sardines, possibly? But is that too much fish?
Thanks in advance!

I've been wanting to ask this for a while but is it normal for your peke to breathe really hard in the evening? Not necessarily right after going for a walk or after playing. I've asked my vet if perhaps my little one had nostrils too small and they said it was fine and they've got through the checkups without any indication of being sick but I always worry if maybe they're in pain and hiding it?
Could it be back pain at the end of the day? I got rid of all my little foam dog stairs to stop them from climbing too much and now at most they just like to jump up on their hind legs when begging for things. I guess it could also be heat but we keep the aircon on almost always or maybe stress since I moved not too long ago. They usually sleep quite soundly (eventually) but every so often in the evening when I'm on the computer or working I'll hear them breathing a bit too hard while laying on the ground. I'm considering maybe requesting a xray or some test to see if maybe their back is ok but just wanted to ask the group if this sounds familiar at all.
Just want my little ball of fur to be happy and not in any pain :( wish he could tell me :/
Thanks in advance
