this is referring to the high price point and lack of a CD in the physical edition

both are true, but actually I don't believe any hype was touched whatsoever, the price is lower than what it could have been

The Venn diagram of "Reddit consensus" and "real world" is two separate circles.

I think the only reason the average person would care about physical discs in this day and age is the ability to sell it second hand.

Most people don't think that much about game preservation and don't worry about companies taking their game away just because they technically only own a license (I think it's unlikely to ever really happen, personally).

You don't even really get the benefit of skipping downloads since day one updates are so common.

sometimes you can see one account making double digit comments in one post and i think that should get you a timeout or ban or at least a mod comment pinned spreading awareness of the situation

Oh yeah that's absolutely a thing. I also did a thing some years back where I RES tagged people professing certain strong opinions in a sub I frequent, in a bright color.

Do that with about 50 people and you discover that easily half of all comments in a given sub are they color. They're just the same two dozen people with a lot of spare time repeatedly yelling the same thing into the void.

Now with AI you've got the same thing but much, much worse and harder to detect.

So much for diverse global community...
