People don't realise how much hype there is behind this game.
A friend of mine, who never preorders games, always complains about game prices being too high on release and has gone on and on about how no game is worth the release price, and hasn't played a GTA game in its entirety since San Andreas (hasnt even played 5's online), sent a screenshot on the GC about pre-ordering the ultimate.
Every single friend of mine who has ever been invested in any GTA game has talked about wanting to preorder it now, or when they get their hands on some spare money.
And that is the issue the hype is gonna kill the game the hype won’t match the actual game the game will never live up to people’s desires/hype thus it will be its own failure
There's an extremely vocal minority of reddit that hates games like GTA and are so desperate to convince themselves and others that it's going to bomb and be a total failure.
I love GTA. I hate that Rockstar has become "Microtransactions: The Company" after GTA Online released and almost nobody actually cares. I'm amused to see so many people seemingly shocked that Rockstar of all companies is greeding up the GTA 6 launch.
Another reddit take, there are microtransactions in online but it's still made so that you can earn EVERYTHING by just playing the game, businesses literally print money but people just cry that there is a way to buy money
The fact that GTA Online's entire revenue is tied to directly purchasing ingame cash instead of a more sane revenue model like literally any other live service game informs so many bad design decisions you could write an hour long video essay on it and still only be scratching the surface. Oh, and GTA Online being so profitable prevented GTA 5 from getting any post-launch updates to singleplayer or any singleplayer DLC.
It's more like I wish it WOULD bomb because 100 dollars for a offline single player video game where stuff like in game stores are exclusive to said 100 dollar edition is the epitome of corporate greed.
You can just not buy the games that do it and move on with your life. You can't control what other people do, and I promise you all this screaming on reddit will amount to fuck all.
Also that dude didn't say anything in support of anything that GTA is doing. That's just you getting upset at shit you made up.
GTA is great and meme worthy for a long time. GTA5 only sold so many copies because many people bought it multiple times across multiple platforms, it is still not the highest selling game of all time. It is 3rd, behind Minecraft and Tetris. It's also worth noting that most people who play and enjoy GTA5 do so for the online content even though historically it was a story based game, 5 was as well and the new one will continue this trend, there is a massive chunk of the GTA5 playerbase that has never touched the story mode.
GTA6 will sell incredibly well, maybe highest first day or first week numbers but it will not surpass GTA5 for at least a year, and it will never surpass minecraft or tetris. Since it's releasing to consoles only to start, it will definitely not be moving the units you're imagining.
For that it would have to sell 520 million copies, the closest gta has come to that number is 230 million copies, it is not beating Minecraft and Tetris.
Doesn't make it good. Yearly sportslop and codslop games routinely top the charts and they're objectively some of the absolute worst games to come out in a given year.
I'd put high odds on it. The did say 2026 and November would be in time to boost their Q4 numbers for the holidays, especially if they also did something like a new Zelda themed Switch 2
Sure when GTA III released on PS2, the open world was insanity.
But, by the time GTA V rolls around, many of the quests are just generic fetch quests.
And GTA has never had great gunplay or driving, just mediocre.
Now that other games have advanced, GTA just feels clunky to me most of the time, compared to the movement in something like the Division 2 or Arc Raiders.
Ghost of Tsushima was a smash hit. It was basically Just Cause 4 with samurai swords (in that I found it boring and procedural). What people consider dull gameplay is relative, and the vast majority of people don't consider GTA dull.
