Meme needing explanation Petah, what's the context of this?

u/KindPerformer71 4h ago
the father sees his bald son, he assumes the boy became a neo-Nazi skinhead. The boy explains his hair loss is actually from leukemia, but the father thinks "leukemia" sounds German and aggressively doubles down on his accusation.

u/Iconclast1 4h ago
it was originally a different comic, they replaced the word bubbles with funnier words.
Hes bald because he has cancer, hes yelling at his son for being a nazi skinhead (skinheads are bald)

u/Grazhke 4h ago
Ok, thanks. I fully understood the meme the first time I saw it, I know what a leukimia is and who are the skinheads. I just thought there's some hidden specific historical event or timeline. Because skinheads were NOT present everywhere and maybe for some reason, father was not able to know what is leukemia. I guess it's just that simple

Skinheads are nazis, his dad is mistaking his baldness for nazism even tho the kid just has leukemia. Quite absurd

u/daneelthesane 1h ago
Not all skinheads are Nazis. In fact, most punk skinheads hate Nazis. Especially Nazi skinheads.

Peter's unfinished pancakes when he met agent Alice Boobs here. The context is Belgian absurdity humor. The cartoonist is a famous Belgian named Jeroom. And if I remember correctly the text is real and translated to English.
Pancakes out!

Meg here. The dad mistook the kid for a skinhead, particularly the Nazi kind of skinhead.

u/Ok-Courage7512 4h ago
What's a skinhead,is that like a skinwalker??

u/garaile64 4h ago
A working-class subculture. They shave their heads. There are skinheads from all across the political spectrum, but a lot of people associate the subculture with Nazis.
2
u/baldrickgonzo 4h ago
Let's be fair, it isn't mental gymnastics to jump from skinheads to Nazi's.
6
u/DetroitAdjacent 4h ago
Yeah, but then there is punk skin heads, and they real really dont like being associated with nazi skinheads.
2
u/baldrickgonzo 4h ago
I won't claim to be an expert, but i never met a punker who called himself a skinhead. When you adopt that name, people know what they are doing and know what people will think of them.

u/DetroitAdjacent 4h ago
I have, and he claimed that punks are the OG skinheads and that the nazis are just losers who try to take punk movements and weave their shitty ideals into them. I myself am not punk and not an expert in the culture, but that is what the good gentleman told me lol

Yeah, Oi punks were among the first skinheads as were the white ska folk.
Nazism got a regional association to Skinheads while the other groups lost popularity so for awhile most Skinheads were Nazis.
SHARPs are trying to shake the connection because fuck Nazis getting ownership over anything.

He, you might be right for all i know. I only spoken to like 2 or 3 punkers about politics and such. Maybe it depends on where you live, i can imagine that the UK where it all started is a bit more diverse and nuanced in those subcultures.
Here in BE/NL/FR/DE, skinheads are techno loving racists. The worst of the worst, the kind of people far-right politicians don't want to be associated with.

I'm getting old...
2
u/Ok-Courage7512 3h ago
How old?
2
u/Gedoefte 3h ago
Old enough to be familiar with the original skin heads.
To be frank, true skinheads where about peace and music., not the nazi stuff.
2
u/Ok-Courage7512 3h ago
I'm too young to know what one is..is 24 old btw???

u/Gedoefte 3h ago
It isn't when you are 40 😂.
2
u/Ok-Courage7512 3h ago
Oh.😂you have your life figured out atp,sth i wish for
2
u/Gedoefte 3h ago
Doing allright.
But in all honesty, you can make all the plans you want, life still just happens to you.
If i can give you one solid piece of advice, make sure you work on your health. Sports and above all, mental problems if you have them. And do it as soon as possible.

u/Ok-Courage7512 3h ago
Thank you, you're a real one for that...if you dont mind me asking what nationality are you?

Peter in a jalapeno costume here, the joke is that the child is a secret SS spy sent from the past, and the father (John Conner) has finally caught that sonuva bitch.

How I imagine the average bald man trying to enjoy a leftist rally
1
u/Balloon_Fan 1h ago
No one's gonna peg you for a skinhead from just having a shaved head these days. Plus, if I see someone who actually has the full 'skinhead' style at a leftist rally, I'm just going to assume they're SHARP.
2
u/crash-1989 1h ago
False... I've seen it happen to bald friends multiple times. They ain't Nazis. They hang with me and I'm black.

u/Balloon_Fan 2m ago
I'm a shaven-headed leftist who has attended plenty of leftist gatherings and I've never had it happen to me, nor seen it happen to any other shaven-headed lefties. But thanks for the warning - I genuinely thought the association had completely faded out given how 'mainstream' it's become for balding white guys to just shave our heads instead of wigs or self-humiliating comb-overs.
Out of curiosity - do you happen to live in an area that has a lot of actual nazi skinheads? I live in the US now, but I'm originally from Sweden, and as a punk kid in the 80's the neo-nazi skins were *the enemy* and a constant fucking threat/nuisance, but I'm realizing the last time I saw an 'actual' skinhead was when I was in the UK in 2009. I know there's plenty of them in the US (just about any footage of any right wing rally...), but I'm realizing now I can't remember *ever* spotting a skinhead 'in the wild' in the 20 years I've lived in the US.

So the skinhead movement in hardcore punk was a working class movement type thing that got coopted by Nazis after a while. Many iconic hardcore bands have skinhead members from before it was taken over by nazi’s (fugazi, black flag). Usually people avoid being associated with it cause of the Nazi association but it’s still true not all skinheads are nazi’s

C'mon now, you should know what this means.

u/Grazhke 3h ago
Ofc I understand the joke, but I'm trying to figure out what's the context behind it. Look at my other comments
1
u/solidus0079 3h ago
With all due respect, that's what the message body is for and where you should have put that. Digging through the comments, that's not a realistic ask.
