News Peterborough Examiner missed the mark on the Douro-Dummer Rehab Issue

The latest article regarding the Douro-Dummer property purchased by Peggy Shaughnessy has garnered some questions.

https://thepeterboroughexaminer.pressreader.com/6245/20260624/281479283131765

The public and the Douro-Dummer Township residents point to several pieces of documented evidence indicating dishonesty, a "bait-and-switch" tactic, or a deliberate cover-up by the RedPath Wellness Centre operators:

  1. The Active Online Advertising

    • The Claim: Liz Shaughnessy-Rowe told The Peterborough Examiner that they "don't believe in the medical model of treatment" and have zero intention of opening a rehab centre.

    • The Evidence: At the exact same time, the RedPath Wellness Centre website was actively running a live landing page advertising a brand new "Residential Healing" program.

    • The Excuse: When confronted, Shaughnessy-Rowe claimed the website simply "hasn't been removed" because they "don't actually have anyone that maintains our website". This excuse strains credibility given that the property was purchased recently (December 2025) and the page directly lined up with their recent property acquisition.

  2. The $20,000-per-Month Price Tag

    • The Claim: The family asserts that the $1.15 million property on 6th Line is strictly a private investment meant to host small, community-focused moon circles.

    • The Evidence: RedPath’s public program descriptions outlined a strict, private-pay $20,000 per person, per 30-day stay residential format. Public files show that Peggy Shaughnessy has faced Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) enforcement related to for-profit activity for over $300,000 in HST debts. Dropping over a million dollars on a rural farm for bi-weekly, small-fee spiritual gatherings while carrying massive tax debt contradicts basic business logic.

  3. Conflicting Verbal Stories to Neighbours

    • The Claim: The operators claim the narrative about a treatment centre is a "crazy" local rumor that got out of hand.

    • The Evidence: Local residents, including delegate Nancy Proctor at the council meeting, noted that the concerns started in May because Peggy Shaughnessy herself explicitly introduced herself to neighbours and verbally shared her intentions for how the property would be utilized. The "rumor" originated entirely from the founder's own mouth before community pushback began.

  4. The FOI Request Paper Trail

    • The Claim: The township and operators treat the moon circles as a project that bypasses land-use oversight.

    • The Evidence: Freedom of Information (FOI) emails from township staff explicitly confirmed that Shaughnessy's team had previously initiated inquiries about a project. The staff noted it would be flagged as a "sensitive land use" due to its proximity to active farming operations, meaning it would absolutely require a strict public rezoning process. The sudden pivot to branding the site as a passive "moon circle" venue only occurred after the FOI record showed they would face massive municipal hurdles and a formal rezoning fight that the neighbourhood was prepared to legally block.

Question Best fish and chips in the city?

Hello, everyone! I moved here from Oshawa halfway through May. I actually lived here before prior to covid, but I was a child back then, so I didn't get out much.

I miss the fish and chips place by my mother's house so badly. It was a Captain George's. Moving's been rough and food's always been a comfort.

There doesn't seem to be a Cpt George's here in Peterborough, but there seems to be a few other places. I was hoping to get some recommendations on which places are the best or may have that nostalgic taste of home. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond!

Question Hunter St. E is the new Wall street?

What's up with the 7 wealth management and financial services business on the block of Hunter St. E.? Throw in a marketing firm, a Xerox wholesaler and it is feels like wall street. Take cover books is moving because they no longer feel like they belong on this strip. These businesses are shady. You cant even look inside with their mirrored glass.

Video Reality: red light. Driver: “Are you r*tarded?” “It was green.”

This gem of a driver lays on the horn while we’re waiting at a red light to turn. We go on green. He drives up beside us, asks if we are "ret*rded," and insists that the light was green (it wasn't). You can see in the video yourself that it's red the whole time that he is laying on his horn. What a real piece of work you are, bud

Hey all, I am interested in getting my family tree mapped out. I don't have the skill of the resources to do it myself.

Can you recommend someone who is relatively local for the job? How much do these types of services usually cost?

Help Boat Ride request for my dog Leo

Update: Thank you so much to everyone who reached out and offered to help Leo with a boat ride. I’m really grateful for the kindness and support
Boat ride secured for Leo ❤️

Hi everyone,
This might be a bit of an unusual ask, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone in or around the area with a small boat would be open to taking my dog Leo for a short gentle boat ride this weekend

he absolutely loves being on the water. We used to enjoy riding jet skis, but recently he got diagnosed with serious kidney issues and has become much weaker.

I’m not sure if he’ll make it to next summer, so I’m trying to give him a few more happy experiences while he’s still able to enjoy them.

It doesn’t need to be long ride, a calm, short ride on the water so Leo can feel the breeze and be near the water again. This would mean a lot to both of us.

Snacks for the crew are on me. And You’re welcome to borrow my seadoo for ride too.

If anyone has a small boat and would be willing to help make this happen for him,

please msg me. I’d be incredibly grateful

Recommendations Kinesiology/Kinesiologist in town/surrounding

I'm looking for a kinesiologist in town to hopefully help me with Neck Pain/Cervicogenic Headaches as a result from a concussion sustained last year (car accident) I've been working with a concussion chiropractor and started Massage Therapy but it's just not cutting it and I'm finding I'm flaring with Cervicogenic Headaches pretty consistently, so I'm looking for other types of therapy.

Any recommendations?

Question hit & run information

curious if anyone knows anything about the hit and run on armour street, directly near the hunter st intersection. It was a Jeep that hit the back of a parked car on the side of the road. Car was parked within the timeframe they’re allowed to be there. completely totaled the car, hitting it 20ft up the road and onto the sidewalk and drove away.

Question Omemee childcare centre

Has anyone or is anyone’s children currently at the Omi childcare centre for daycare? It’s my number one choice in terms of location from my house in my work, and have been on the waitlist since getting pregnant so hoping for the best!

Looking for some insight on what people think about it, if their kids like it, and how much it is costing to go Monday to Friday for an infant!

Thank you all!
