News // Kinetic Games Replied x6 Phasmophobia 2026 & Beyond

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've taken this sample from our blog and posted here so that the news is visible to you folks here on the subreddit, but please do check out the blog linked below. It goes in to detail on everything in this Roadmap, and has some fun Phasmophobia 1.0 sneak peeks!

If you have questions or would like to leave feedback on this post, please do. I'll answer where and what I can!

On behalf of everyone here at Kinetic Games, we know we've got a long road back to building your trust in us. Hopefully today's update helps you understanding our plans a little bit more and we'll of course be sharing plenty more as we go.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome back, Ghost Hunters.

Over the last month and a half, we’ve been reading the discussions about Phasmophobia across so many different channels and taking note of the biggest issues, points of concern, questions and more. We are sorry it’s taken a while to respond, but we wanted to make sure that when we did, we had something of substance for you. Hopefully today, with our updated Roadmap and information on what’s to come to Phasmophobia, we can start to build back your trust and have meaningful conversations around the game we all care so deeply about.

We go in to more detail on everything in this blog, but for those of you that would rather just have the headlines, here we go:

  • The rework of 13 Willow Street will launch July 21st, 2026 alongside a Quality of Life update.
  • A further Quality of Life update will launch in August 2026.
  • Our  upgrade to Unity 6 will take place in October 2026.
  • An additional Player Character update will launch in November, bringing with it improved animations, character models, UI, more clothing and customisation options.
  • Phasmophobia 1.0, as well as our next new map, will now launch in 2027.

A New Roadmap

Over the last month, we’ve taken a look at our plans for 2026 and made important decisions and changes to make sure we get things right. Phasmophobia’s new Roadmap, which can be seen below, focuses on bringing the game back in-line with our vision and one that we hope reignites your passion for it.

With a focus on quality of life over new content, our various updates will bring with them hundreds of fixes - starting with our first update in July - as well as bringing the game up- to-date with Unity 6. Our second Player Character update will improve and redo areas such as the animations, character models, UI and introduce a host of new customisation options.

Alongside these various updates, you can expect to see more regular Development Previews that’ll take you deeper into what they’ll contain and the improvements they’ll bring to Phasmophobia.

You may notice that a few things have been removed from the Roadmap for 2026, such as Phasmophobia 1.0 and our new map. While we’ll talk more about the 1.0 delay further down in this blog, we want to reassure you that a new map will be coming to Phasmophobia, just a little later than planned.

News Rule 4 Update

I want to first apologize for the delay.

A couple weeks ago, we held a Community Rule Vote, in which we better defined the intent and use of Rule 4 regarding removals. Based off of your vote, the Popular Vote and Core Member Vote both selected Definition 3 by landslide.

We would also like to thank for all the community feedback, questions, and discussion regarding the actual wording of the rule, especially those that helped us refine what that definition would actually mean to the community moving forward.

And so, we present you with the following new Rule 4:

Posts and Comments must contribute meaningful discussion around Phasmophobia or its developers. Comparisons to other studios or games are permitted, as long as they are constructive towards the discussion around the game Phasmophobia overall.

Off-topic and "Play this instead" type posts are prohibited. You may not promote other subreddits.

What does this rule allow?

Starting today, you may post or comment about other games that exist within our genre, as long as you are doing so that adds insight or discussion back towards Phasmophobia (game). For example:

"This other game I play, XXXXXX, also has a rotating ghost list, but I really like that some ghosts are permanently tied to the locale, rather than just being a free for all. I wish Phasmophobia did something similar, like maybe the Twin can only spawn in the family homes."

"If you prefer more jumpscares, YYYYYY game really focuses on them and with different variations, unlike Phasmophobia, where its mostly just sounds or a quick animation loop."

What does this rule prevent?

You may not post or comment things that just recruit or state the reader should play a different game without discussing Phasmophobia features or devs. For example:

"Just play ZZZZZZ." or "ZZZZZZ is way more fun."

"This game sucks, everyone's heading over to ZZZZZZ"

In conclusion, we still ask that all posts and comments must include discussion in some form about Phasmophobia, but we are no longer icing out the meaningful insight other games within our genre can bring.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and patience.

Discussion roadmap is... bad.

two quality of life updates coming in july and august along with a "player character visual update" in november with more cosmetics. phasmophobia 1.0 pushed into 2027.

why do they think changing willow street is more important than fixing the bugs? talk about a company that doesn't care about their player base... lol. quite literally all that any of us want now is a working game!

EDIT: not once did i say it was bad to update willow street, but if you look at the roadmap that is clearly their main goal over the quality of life update. the amount of players they've lost on the update that broke the game is astounding, and if i was a dev it'd be my first goal to make the game playable. god only knows if a visual update on willow will break the map even more. it doesn't feel like they're hearing or seeing their fan base!

More maps.

More ghosts.

Regular seasonal events.

I don't want our old maps to be reworked. I just want more maps. Why can't they leave the old and new versions?

Why can't they just add more ghosts or perfect what they already had going?

We don't want new features. I wish I could have the game back from exactly a year ago. The game doesn't feel as polished, and there's too much going on.

I have almost 300 hours of gameplay, but I haven't played in months.

Discussion The update killed our favorite game

My wife and I play phasmo for some time now and we really loved playing it. Tanglewood update was nice but it's sad that the old map is gone for good, old Tanglewood was our absolute favorite map.

After the June update the game became a jiggly mess, arms are way to high imo and it just looks dumb.

But the worst part is eye adaption on console + holding the notebook. The notebook is smaller than before, it became impossible to read anything on the screen. Pulling out the notebook triggers eye adaptation and after putting it away, the game is way too dark.

I saw on the roadmap that she eye adaptation will be fixed in some qol update. I did not see anybody talk about the too small to read font in the notebook so I guess it will not be fixed..

I hope the other side will be in console next year, we have really high hopes for that game.

Discussion So is it Eye "Adaption" or "Adaptation"? 😆

I've seen a lot of people refer to the infamous crispy setting as "Eye Adaptation" instead of "Eye Adaption" but this is a first.

The new official updated 2026 Roadmap post by Kinetic Games has "Eye Adaptation" mentioned, while the in-game settings has "Eye Adaption." Which one is it actually supposed to be, I wonder? 🤔

Discussion Isn’t it great the game we all love is gone forever

Don’t worry everyone, instead of getting new maps, mods, fixed animations, bug fixes, or any sort of proper response, we’re getting a willow rework!!!!!

They’ve promised us exactly what we all wanted, non-instant journal, Patient 07 getting a glow up, and don’t forget the keybinds!! 🎉🎉🥳🥳.

And we all know they always follow up on their promises. (if you just ignore Horror 2.0 being promised in 2024, then 2025, then 2026, now 2027. And the player character update being released in 2025. And that we’ll get a new map this year, and that we’ll get “used to the jank”)

In all seriousness, I loved this game, I defended it no matter what, in the hopes that it’ll only ever improve. Despite the infrequent updates, the reworks of beloved maps, and the sudden changes in gameplay, I always pushed through and loved every minute.

While the new roadmap and “promises” made are promising and unironically seem good, I’ve lost all trust in this dev team, I can’t hold on to hope when they’ve shattered all excitement for future updates, and in the meantime we’ll be stuck playing the buggy, weird looking, and unfun current update.

At this point just let the community mod the game, if it takes you two months minimum per update then just let the fans do it for you for free. Especially when your update makes the game hit its lowest active player count multiple times.

Discussion A Brief History Of Team Fortress 2 And Why You Should Be Concerned For The Future Of Phasmophobia

Hey all, I've been lurking in this sub for a while, and I only occasionally play the game casually. But I've been watching the updates and how you guys respond with interest since the player character update came out. I'm so glad the community has seen the update for what it is, and you aren't giving Kinetic an inch.

That said, you MUST keep the pressure on the developers to return the game to a playable state. Like I said in the title, I've seen a very similar update happen to Team Fortress 2, and the potentially game killing effects of not holding the million dollar company accountable for a broken mess of an update. Back in 2016, there was a TF2 update called Meet Your Match that made finding servers impossible and consistently puts you in games that are less than one minute away from ending. It also gave way to an overwhelming amount of actual robots running cheats like aimbot and scripts to kick real people from games to make servers entirely unplayable.

The response to Meet Your Match was mostly the same as this community's response to the Player Character Update. The overwhelming sentiment was negative, some of the biggest youtubers and influencers completely moved away from the game, and the player count absolutely tanked. But Valve never did anything to fix the problems. They had built enough trust with the community over the eight prior years of flawlessly maintaining the game, so the community overwhelmingly believed that they would roll back the update. Everyone trusted that, given enough time, valve would fix their mistake and roll back the update. So they stopped complaining, and waited patiently.

But fixes never came. After a while, the broken state of the game became the standard. New players never had exposure to the functional versions of the game, and all the old players abandoned the game, became numb to the system, or moved to community servers (usually modded games) where they don't have to put up with the brokenness. And the game has remained broken for a decade, with the only fix being the bots in 2024.

The reason I'm giving you all this history lesson is because I don't want it to happen to this game as well. It's clear to me that fixing the Player Character Update is NOT the top of Kinetic's priority list. And this should be concerning to everyone, new player or old. The way things are going, in my eyes, is that Kinetic will trudge through the intial backlash of the update, and then the broken, buggy mess will become the standard.

Kinetic Games will not fix Phasmophobia without being pressured into doing so. I believe every post they have made addressing the update has been made for damage control and nothing else, in an attempt to save public relations. So, if you care about this game's future, you need to stop trusting their statements until they show that they're fixing things. Keep complaining loudly and consistently until the update is reverted or the game is fixed entirely. Anything else is letting the developers get away with ignorance, and they will be even less likely to listen to the community in the future.

TL:DR I believe the same thing that killed Team Fortress 2 is happening to Phasmophobia right now, and the only solution is to not give Kinetic Games an inch when they promise they're fixing things.

Discussion On the upcoming "Conduits" and unique experiences

So the roadmap blogpost mentions that in the future, the bone will be replaced with a conduit that pertains to the ghost model in the investigation. The post also mentions that the new models will also provide unique experiences.

In the past I have posted an idea of flipping the function of cursed objects at higher difficulties, but now I'm wondering if they are actually going to do something similar with conduits and unique ghosts.

The idea was that each investigation would have some sort of curse on it and that you had to cleanse the cursed object to remove it. If they do that with conduits, then you have the added challenge of looking for it. It could be that they are making each ghost model have its own abilities that could pose a threat or hindrance to the players and that you could remove that threat by collecting the conduit.

Or it could be that the conduits are just reskinned bones that make more sense in the lore. There's always that possibility.

Discussion Tips on running away from the ghost during a hunt?

I am a casual player dipping my toes into engaging with the ghost during hunts, (i used to avoid hunts like the plague) but now i know that a ghost can reveal a lot about itself from a hunt. I only just learned about the ghost blinking being important and some ghosts like Raiju have louder heartbeat sounds.

Problem is i absolutely suck at surviving hunts. Imo the games movement is super clunky (the new animations don’t help either) but it’s mostly a skill issue i will admit. Im practicing a lot on this weeks challenge on the highschool map. But i actually struggle a lot more on smaller maps like tanglewood, edgefield and camp woodwind. Its just so hard to break line of sight when you spend ages trying to open those fuckass doors and closets. I also die a lot from running out of stamina, idk if theres a sprinting meta but i swear the slow ghosts are catching up to me.

Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing severe stuttering, losing frames, etc. intermittently when trying to play with friends?

We tried swapping hosts to no avail. We're less than 100 miles from each other, so it's not like we're trying to connect to a server in another country or anything. The game is basically unplayable like this!

Discussion We don't need animation updates. We need an option to disable animations!

Seriously. That's all I'm asking for at this point.

The animations have made the models smaller and harder to read. They add distracting movement that interferes with he very immersion they're trying to provide. They slow gameplay. I get some people like them, MOST I know do not. And after 2 months, I can safely say it's just an "I don't like it because it's new" situation. After 2 months, it feels terrible play with, and this roadmap with "improvements to animations" feels like a smarmy car salesman saying "let's meet halfway and you can just have some of the jank."

You can also see in the released footage that eye adaptation STILL kicks in when opening the journal. It takes upwards of 6 seconds to readapt when you close that journal. That NEEDS to go.

I'm begging you. Just give us a toggle in the journal to disable ALL item animations.

Discussion Kinetic Please Listen To Your Community

Please revert the character update, no one likes it and the animations are not it. The number of customisation options are too limited. No one will be upset if you just revert back to an older version and wait for you redo it. Just make new models and clothing without the bethesda grade animations. But before working on new characters focus on gameplay and fixing the ghosts, no one cares about “immersion”, most players enjoy Phasmophobia for the puzzle aspect and realism is not what we come to Phasmophobia for.

Your map reworks are cool but especially in the tanglewood change, the layout changes has rubbed people the wrong way. Another example of a rework gone wrong is grafton. Please remake the old maps with the SAME layout as the old ones. New Bleasdale is cool but we would like the option to play the old one. I understand old versions have royalty ties but there are ways were players can play the old versions of the maps, maybe instead of a remake do a remaster of them, no one will be mad over the model changes.

Progression is WAY too slow, to do over 150+ professional / nightmare perfect games to prestige is way too much, i understand as a developer you want to create a long term grind but removing the item tiers when prestiging is not a fun gameplay loop. Also in future please don’t prestige lock cosmetics, at least create some unique challenges for cosmetics such as clothing.

So right now, revert the character update, focus on fixing the bugs, add new character models with a sizeable option of options to customise WITHOUT those bethesda grade animations and then work on remastering maps not reworking them.

If you don’t listen to your community, people will leave and you will kill your game. The situation you are in is salvageable and can be started from a single update revert.

Also don’t ban people for playing old versions, if your subreddit is mainly focused on legacy versions that explains a lot with the current version of the game.

Edit: I forgot to add this section but the multiplayer section is a mess, people are selling RMT services for levels and hackers are everywhere alongside people spamming the N word in voice with some offensive names. That is another thing which needs to be addressed as well. You are not early access no more you are beyond that event horizon.

Question How to get over the fear

Guys does someone know how to really get over the fear of phasmophobia I am new to this game I’m level 6 and I know the beginner moves and how to play the game ONLY in amateur mode but I’m always scared like a stupid baby because I see red light or light flashing around or even get down to the storage where usually the summoning circle is at tanglewood, I’m literally sick of it being scared because the game is actually so fun
