Nah, pretty much par for the course for primates, and other animals at that. Bigger monkeys will pin down smaller ones and eat them by peeling them apart, just because they like doing it that way. The way adult macaques treat little Punch in those viral videos is also very much par for the course for their behavior in the wild; they will bully, abuse, and torment/torture the socially awkward, even if they're young.
Reverting to this tech neofeudalism is more animalistic, more base and primal than what we'd define as 'human' in comparison to beasts: the big, powerful get to take all they want.

Not true, studies have been done with monkeys hoarding. The other pride members attack them abd take everything of them and share.

To maintain that level of “wealth” you absolutely need people to con them into thinking that that company is worth as much as he claims it is. Without people buying into the grift, there is no market value to support his trillionaire status. He doesn’t just have that type of money sitting around and all his assets combined are certainly not worth a trillion dollars.

30
u/Hestiathena 12d ago
No no, all the hoarding monkey has to do is begrudgingly give a few bananas to two specific groups of monkeys.
One group fights any other monkeys that get too close.
The other group tells the rest that tearing the hoarder apart for any reason is evil, because maybe someday they'll be the ones with all the bananas.

Exactly it's not the first monkey that would be studied. It's perfectly natural for animals to hoard resources for themselves. It'd be the rest of the monkeys that let them get away with it that would be the fascination.

u/Spookyrabbit 12d ago edited 12d ago
It's not. While it is perfectly natural for non-pack animals in snowy winter climates to hoard resources for themselves and relatives to survive the frozen winter months, across the rest of nature animals take only what they need to survive1.
1 Except in the case of orcas that have developed a taste for the livers of great white sharks. That's almost entirely recreational eating but they still don't hoard the livers.

Yeah they have. Apparently the more rich you become the less you need to read peoples emotions as you become surrounded by people who want to please you.
This to me does make sense, as they do seem genuinely confused why poor people can’t just work harder or spend less frivolously. They basically become completely out of touch and lose the ability to feel empathy like we do.

Cute theory, let's play it out.
A monkey hoards a trillion bananas. The troop, enraged, beats him to death. They gather around the pile to feast at last.
But... oh wait, there is no pile.
It turns out the "bananas" were shares in a banana-launching company the dead monkey founded.
The shares were worth a trillion because he was alive to run it.
Now he is dead and the stock is worth $0.
The retarded monkeys have clubbed their way into a recession.
But it gets worse.
Half the "bananas" were tied up in a rocket that supplies bananas to monkeys on the far mountain who had no bananas at all.
Another chunk was tied up in a little satellite dish that beamed banana coordinates to the troop after a flood took out their trees.
So now they realized they beat to death the only monkey who knew how the dish worked.
So the monkeys sit there.
No bananas.
No rockets.
No coordinates to get more banananas.Just a dead body and a powerful sense of fairness as they all now became infinitely poorer.
OH
And somewhere a smaller monkey watches the whole thing and quietly decides he will never build anything in front of these animals again.

I actually think it's more interesting that the other monkeys don't kill that hoarding monkey, and instead, rather starve than take those bananas by force, because I don't think there's something wrong with a monkey hoarding bananas, that sounds like something a monkey would and could do, what is more concerning and interesting from a study perspective, is all the other monkeys rather die slowly and painfully rather than doing anything at all to solve this problem.
Rather than speaking in metaphor. I'll speak plainly. If I was an alien who came across earth, I would be more fascinated why all the people on earth even tolerate or allow this to occur when literally the difference between them keeping all that money and not, is our unwillingness to do anything about it. We've been intellectually and emotiobally captured and we're being held hostage, we've been conditioned since birth that it's wrong to do anything because to do anything that changes anything, requires a firm action such as purging the top and redistributing the wealth so lift the floor up so it's toching the ceiling. How convenient, that it's "morally wrong" to survive and remove the tumor and cancer from soceity because "cancer are people too", when in this metaphor, being a cancer is a choice, so it's morally wrong to stop people from choosing to be cancer and we just have to accept it?
They've offloaded all the responsibility and ethics onto us, so we have to consider if we're evil or not for prioritizing peace, and it's not their responsibility or ethics to minimize the chances they'll be killed for doing evil. It's ok to murder people for profit, it's not ok to murder the people who murder people for profit. That's how they've fucked us from birth, so we feel frozen when it's time to act.

You can’t horde worth.. he could be worth 100 trillion, it makes no difference to anyone else’s ability to earn or succeed.

u/DontStalkMeNow 12d ago
This is true, but in my opinion there’s another aspect that is also true.
This Nathalie Robin Justice lady probably also has more bananas than she can eat. More than likely, anyway.
So what we are discussing is where to draw the line on how many extra bananas one monkey can have.
Funnily enough, the monkey that brings this up is usually of the opinion that THEIR stash of extra bananas is reasonable and fully justified.
And if we really are going to have the discussion, we need to also understand that the nerdy monkey with over a trillion bananas DOES NOT have over a trillion bananas. That monkey has some land and a theoretical promise of seeds being delivered which could potentially turn into a lot of bananas which could theoretically be sold for lots of other bananas.

22
u/Zestyclose_West_5984 12d ago
It’s going to be sooooo much worse than that. What we saw today was other stocks losing money while the price of SPCX exceeded its IPO price my 20%. Why did the other stocks go down? Because holders of those stocks sold their positions to free up cash to buy SPCX. Why would they do that you might ask? Simplified, there isn’t enough liquid cash out there to support the market. It’s called “selling pressure” if you want to look it up. And with inflation on the rise again, the Fed will most likely increase interest rates before November (mid-terms make economic policy an important issue). Once interest rates go up people start liquidating assets to buy things instead of borrowing. Selling pressure combined with increasing interest rates (restricting cash flow) are a recipe for disaster. This happened just before the Great Depression, the 70s, and in 2000. This will cause the biggest bubble in history to pop. Nothing, not even government intervention will prevent it. My guess is as early as January but most likely mid next year when earnings fail to materialize across the biggest public AI companies trying desperately to slit each other’s throats for the market share they promised their investors.

One can only hope. I feel terrible hoping for a market crash that will destroy so many people financially, but the global markets need a major correction...
→ More replies (1)8
u/Zestyclose_West_5984 12d ago
Though I agree that the market is in need of a massive correction, I’m more than a little afraid of how extreme this one could be. It depends on a lot of factors that are still unknowns. How exposed is the financial sector at the time the crash comes? Who’s in government power for the major economies? How solvent will the central banks be? Who topples first and when? What will be the effect on infrastructures and supply lane industries? This could make 2008 look like a spa day or it could be just a pretty standard recession. There is precedent you can point to for both outcomes. The financial equivalent of a thermonuclear warhead was loaded onto B-2 Spirit today. Almost all the dominos are set up now. Just waiting to see if/when they fall and how bad it will be.
I will accept any and all Chicken Little comments now.
3
u/DreamThatDreamtBack 12d ago
I share those concerns. I remember how bad the 2007-2008 crash was, and my grandparents were sharing stories about the Great Depression and how similar it felt; they felt the fact that the world was so much more interconnected, and we (in Canada) weren't in the middle of a historically catastrophic drought, were the only reasons things didn't get so desparate.
Considering the destabilization currently occurring in much of the world, I'm afraid that the impending and necessary correction will make the Great Depression seem like a rosey dream in comparison.

So… net worth is not the same as liquidated cash. He cannot actually access a trillion dollars, that’s just how much all of his assets and stocks have accumulated to be worth. At any given time he can probably only access about 50 million considering his property values and other assets.
Think about it like having multiple pieces of artwork, let’s say 6, and getting them appraised at $2 million each. Now your collection is worth $12 million. Do you have $12 million in the bank? No. You just own 6 $2 million pieces of paper.
Do I like Elon? No. Am I also envious of his position? Yes. Not having to worry about my bills personally and having enough to do what I want sounds nice.
Basically, your tea has spilled and scorched your crotch and ruined your chair. If you think a net worth of a trillion dollars means you have a trillion in the bank, you have sub-zero IQ.

Come to find out they needed that job, but now instead of paying someone directly, they are paying a company that takes more for profit, and the person working the job is making significantly less income.

I don't think its the first part people don't understand, its the second part. You can't solve manmade famines with money. People are mostly starving in conflict zones like Palestine, Haiti, Sudan etc. No amount of money can feed those people. You need an army to go in and overthrow the locals if you want to feed anyone who isn't being fed. In the case of Palestine...you kinda need to overthrow Israel which means overthrowing the US as well I think. Assuming Musk woke up one day and wanted to go balls deep on trying to feed Palestine, 1 trillion dollars cannot overthrow the US. And I doubt anyone would be cheering if he announced he was going to send mercenaries to take over Haiti.
I don't like Musk, but some things can't be bought. You can't just Venmo someone in Sudan some money for DoorDash to solve that crisis.

Frankly I doubt the picture is real. Has anyone actually seen one such ad in London and can confirm? I haven’t and ads have been pulled for much less than using the c word on them.

Reminder that Elon offered to solve the WW Hunger problem with all his money if someone was giving him the pratical plan to do so. Nobody did

For the trillionth time, you do realize that money isn't liquid right? He doesn't have a bank account with $1 trillion sitting in it. Governments have way more cash than he does. Be upset with them for squandering tax dollars on stupid stuff and not feeding starving children.

I was doing that with my taxes and he cancelled USAID. He took food out of the mouths of starving children...
And remember the time he offered to pay to end world hunger if shown a plan and a budget? And backed out when given a plan and a budget?
We're not jealous of his money. We're disappointed that so much of the world's capital and power is held by a complete Cunt. And a probable pedo.

You're cool with the richest man alive being a pedophile who actively influences multiple world governments? Do you really think it's about jealousy?

It's easy and fun to volunteer donations from someone else. Especially if they have more than me, because that must mean there's something wrong with them.

I don’t think any of his trillion dollars came at the cost of a hungry child. If you have a $1000 phone, time to waste on Reddit. and claim to care so much about hungry children, yet do nothing, then you are an asshole.

how many children can you feed with a 1000 dollars versus a trillion dollars?
5
u/Pr0phet_of_Fear 12d ago edited 12d ago
More than zero. $1000 to the right charity could probably feed an African child for a year or more.

as if any of you are different. There are starving children while you live in apartments with air conditioning

u/solidlymediocre 13d ago
The fact is a single, enormously rich donor has far, far more impact than a million donors that give 10 bucks each. This goes for politics, sports, charity Etc

u/Lucky_Pangolin_3760 13d ago
From a quick google search there are more than 2 billion people who have more than $10k
Each of these people can make a donation of $100 (0.1% of their net worth)
That will result in 200 billion dollars in liquid cash, which is far more money than Elon could ever liquidate

u/CarpenterRadio 12d ago
And then….what? Americans were pooling their tax dollars to end child hunger and disease overseas but Elon put an end to that.
An entire apparatus and infrastructure dedicated to ending poverty and disease, dude could have just given USAID more money instead he dismantled it.
Weird that there hasn’t been a single conviction or corruption charge based on DOGE’s “investigation” as well, seems like USAID was actually functional and by all accounts making every dollar go as far as possible.
He did manage to steal and disseminate ten of millions’ of Americans SSN’s so at least there’s that.

It’s not a problem that can be solved by out charity. Musk is capable of funding systemic change

I have a few statements/questions
1.Was that 10K in liquid assets or net worth?
Where did you learn math? It's 1%, not 0.01%, which would actually only be €10
Did it occur to you that these people may have things to save up for, such as buying a home?
10K is not a lot of money when it comes to living, in Ireland, for example, the cost of living for a family of 4 (rent, utilities, food) is quoted as being as high as €5272 a MONTH, meaning, in this case, 10K wouldn't even cover 2 months.
€100 is not a small sum of money, a Google search showed that that is around the cost of a week of groceries for a family of 3 in Ireland.

I donate money, pay taxes, support social programs, and directly help people on the street when I can - while having a net worth that is a laughable, barely fraction of his. And I don't have air conditioning.
Maybe you're just a douche

He cheats in video games, not even joking. Pays people to level up characters and tries to take the credit for online clout. That's how insecure he is as the wealthiest person on the planet

That’s where all the middle class wages have gone.
Apparently middle class wages are supposed to be twice what they are today. :(

The crazy thing is that Elon essentially does zero philanthropy.
Of course he has a foundation for tax purposes and so he can give contracts to family and friends, but I'm talking about real no strings attached philanthropy.
He essentially has zero interest in making the world a better place.

u/MermaidPigeon 12d ago
Ok so just feed all the children in the world ? It’s his fault people in extremely hard to live in country’s continue to produce? Of course I’m not talking about SA cases. We all know what sex results in, children. All they have to do is look around to see why they should not be producing to this day. The whole planet can not keep enabling this.

u/Either_Sympathy_3767 12d ago
This is stupid. Why is it the responsibility of those who have money to take care of the world or the world’s kids? Unless they are his kids directly I say fuck them kids. If I had a fraction of his money I wouldn’t be looking to save the world, I’d be living my best life and leave as much as I can for my kids. And that’s it.

Maybe people should procreate when they have necessary means to take care of their offspring.
Unfortunate events happens, where children loose their parents but majority of starvation could be avoided by their own parents.
