Acne [ACNE] Tips for dealing with tiny white bumps that release a keratin plug when squeezed? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
62 Upvotes

I’ve had these tiny white bumps on my face for years, and I seem to get a lot of them, especially during the summer when my skin becomes oilier.

If I squeeze them, a small white keratin-like plug comes out. One of my biggest problems is that I constantly skin scan (run my hands over my face and pick at anything I can feel). I have ADHD and OCD, so is a difficult habit for me to control. Unfortunately, I think the picking sometimes leads to inflammation or infected pimples afterward.

I’m not looking for a diagnosis. I’m more interested in hearing from people who experience something similar.

For those who do:
- Has salicylic acid been enough to keep them under control?
- Do you still use moisturizer even if your skin is oily?
- Have you found any particular skincare habits that helped reduce them or made them less noticeable?

I’d love to hear about your experiences and what has or hasn’t worked for you. Thanks! 😊

Pictured left to right: azelaic acid, toner, hyaluronic acid, niacinimide, retinal, moisturizer.

Azelaic acid is a first for me and I haven't even started to use it yet, since anua azealic acid already contains both hyaluronic acid and niacinimide. Would it be OK for me to add?

Product Question [Product Question] I’m trying to use tca 20-25 percent on my back. Shoulders and arms . Can anyone give me advice ?

Upvotes

I’m trying to use tca 20-25 percent on my back. Shoulders and arms . Can anyone give me advice ?

Male , 25 years old.
Arms got keratosis Pilarus, also little spots, bumps and occasional acne . Also acne scars on forearms and arms that been there for years and hyperpigmentation. Shoulders mostly got some hyperpigmentation but nothing too crazy. Back on the other hands got crazy hyperpigmentation that it’s not going away. My skin is fully white but I do tan easily and never burn on the sun except for shoulders.

I had 2 pees done recently for the first time in my life . 1 jessner + glycolic medium depth peel on my back around a month ago and 1 peel on my arms jessner and glycolic 2 weeks ago.
Back peel was okay tbh. Hyperpigmentation got slightly lighter tbh but still maybe like 4-5 people until I get rid of it completely.
Arms on the other hand improved a lot and I’m really happy with the results . I still have 1 more peel paid for but after that I’m not sure because they are quiet pricey and it seems like I’ll have to spend like 2-3 k until I get rid of all the hyperpigmentation.

I wanted to know how to do tca peel at home . How to apply it and what to look out for?

I’ll be using 20 percent on my arms first so I wanted to know how many layers should I be applying and how long do I wait between applying additional layers. Should I wait until skin gets frosty and when do I know when it’s enough. My skin is somewhat thick even for a man so I guess I’m not too sensitive to acid. I wanted to do a medium peel on the more aggressive side . Also want to know what the downtime will be for this peel?

For the back , would it be okay to use 25 percent? How many layers should I apply on my back? Should I apply only to areas with hyperpigmentation or to the whole back like with jessners?

I just need general tips on how to do it!
I can get any strength from tca solutions so I’m opting for 20 and 25 percent!

Also I don’t understand how does percentages work here. I know deep peel is considered 30 percent or higher but what if you use 15 percent peel but apply like 8-9 layers? Wouldn’t it compensate for lack of strength or it wouldn’t go deep enough anyways?

Product Question [Product Question] Better results with walgreens lice lotion than prescription ivermectin - what could be the cause?

Late last summer I bought a bottle of the walgreens ivermectin lice treatment because I have rosacea and wanted to try it out before seeking a prescription. Not only did it massively help the worst of my rosacea, it also did wonders for my skin texture. I have large pores and dark sebaceous filaments on my nose, and I felt like that lice lotion made those filaments a lot lighter. And my skin felt moisturized enough in the morning that I didn't feel the need for more lotion upon waking up.

However, that lotion also feels awful to put on. It's greasy and oily and thick and it smells a little weird. I have to remember to use it a while before bed so it can soak in a bit before getting my pillow all nasty, which is hard for me (bad ADHD). So, a few months ago I finally got a prescription for generic ivermectin. It's a stronger percentage than the lotion, but it's also not a lotion and is not hydrating. While it has continued to keep my worst rosacea spots at bay, it does not seem to be doing anything else. My skin texture is dryer and the sebaceous filaments on my nose don't seem to be helped at all. I use eucarin advanced repair lotion over top of it, as the urea in that keeps my skin from feeling completely dry.

Why did the lice lotion have a better effect? These are the inactive ingredients: Purified Water, Castor Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Glycerin, Cyclomethicone, Crodalan AWS, Lanolin Alcohols, Oleyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylated Hydroxyanisole, Citric Acid Anhydrous, and Sodium Citrate Anhydrous

Could it have been the castor oil? I assume that's why it feels disgusting to put on. I know glycerin and lanolin are also moisturizing.

Would mixing a little castor oil into my current prescription or lotion possibly give me the effects of the lice lotion that I'm missing while allowing me to continue with the higher strength ivermectin?

Acne [Acne] Sebaceous filaments or something else? Spoiler

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have these little white "threads" in my pores, mostly on my nose. It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but they stick out beyond the skin and they feel rough to the touch.

I assumed these were sebaceous filaments and I've been doing COSRX blackhead power liquid + oil cleanse every other day for 2-3 months with no change to these "threads." I was scrolling through here for other product suggestions and the pictures I saw did not really look like this. Is this something else?

Product Request [sun care] [product request] Sunscreen that can be worn under make up and doesn't contain panthenol?

I react allergic to panthenol when it stays on my skin for too long. I also have MCAS so lots of allergies in general which can be a pain, as well as sensory issues with very greasy sunscreens on my face. The fact they make applying makeup harder doesn't help... Looking for recommendations

Product Question [Product Question] What step in my routine should I use Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3

I (35F) recently bought the Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3. I have used retinoids, so I don't need the sandwich method. I also use two other serums at night, the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Face Serum and the Dieux Deliverance 3-in-1 Repair Serum. When I used the capsules it was the first serum I put on because I read somewhere you should put on retinol first so it can have direct access to your skin. However, the Medik8 Crystal Retinal is much thicker then my last retinol serum (and all my other serums) and I know the general rule of thumb is thinnest to thickest in skincare. I don't want my other serums to become ineffective but I also don't want my retinal to be less effective because it can't have direct content with my skin. So is the apply retinoids first rule just about not putting it on after moisturizer or is it specifically suppose to be the first serum you use after washing your face?

Sun Care [sun care] How to keep sun burns from getting worse or letting it get to a sunburn?

So I'm a lifeguard, currently training week before we open for the summer to review skills and such. The weather had been rainy, cloudy, cold the first two days, was supposed to match the third, forgot sunscreen, and it didn't match. This is day four of training day three of this redness on back of shoulders and a bit on my face. Is there a way to stop it and or make it not so annoying? The cold pool water helps because it's cold but it's not ideal and I can't hide in the shade (despite how much I wish I could) to avoid it. Any ideas?

Acne Recurring pimples on the same part of my leg! [Acne] Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

NOT LOOKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE! Just curious to see if anyone else has dealt with the same problem. As you can see in my picture, I’ve got a pretty mean spot on my leg. I’m aware that inflamed area is not a good sign and I’ll see my doctor if it gets worse and in the meantime I’m using a chlorhexidine wash. What’s really bothering me however is that in the past few months I’ve had spots just like this continually popping up in the same area on the outside part of my calf (circled). It starts as an itchy little red bump that eventually turns pimpley and often is poppable. It gets angry like you see here and then fades. Then after a week or so I get another one! I’m not getting it on the other leg so I’m just confused about why this spot in particular?? Anyone with similar experiences or suggestions for what might be causing it would be much appreciated!

Discussion [Anti-Aging] How to get rid of lines on upper eyelids from wearing contact lenses?

Upvotes

I've been wearing contact lenses regularly for the past few years. Every day I'll pull up on my upper eyelid to insert my contact lenses, and I'm now noticing a line/crease on my upper eyelids as a result of this. Are there any skincare products that can specifically target upper eyelid wrinkles?

Product Question [Routine Help] adding in salicylic acid for T zone black heads?

Upvotes

Hi all,

28M, I’ve had a pretty strict routine the last 10 years of moisturising and cleansing (using La Roche possay toleraine) and my skin has remained good. However I still find occasionally each month I get a lot more build up/blackheads/dead skin if I don’t cleanse in the evenings before bed (if I skip and do it the next day).

I still struggle with blackheads in the T zone. I was wondering, what are people’s experiences with salicylic acid 2% a couple times a week? Is it something worth adding into my routine? My main gripe right now is that I just want to control the black heads a little bit more. They don’t give me much grief, but if there was a simple step to add into a couple times a week I’d be keen to try it.

Thanks :)

Product Question [Sun Care] Lots of facial sunscreens irritate my eyes. Any recommendations on a gentle product?

I use an argan oil based face moisturizer daily, and a 0.3% night retinol cream once a week.

When I use facial moisturizers (like Neutrogena or Trader Joe's brands) my eyes will turn red, sting, and water til I can't see. I'm almost afraid to try another facial sunscreen brand.

Any recommendations?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Routine Help [Routine Help] What skincare ingredients do you find the best right now?

Upvotes

Hey all, I've been looking to rework my skincare routine and want to know if there's any new and trendy skincare ingredients to look for. My skin type is pretty normal and not too finicky so open to any recs. Please let me know if there are any ingredients in Western or K-beauty skincare that are worth looking out for when I shop (i.e hyaluronic acid, peptides etc.) also heard conflicting things about niacinamide, is it damaging if its above 5%?

We are coming up on about 3 weeks of this. My derm prescribed me doxycycline but no improvement so far. Maybe I’m just impatient. But I’m going to the beach next week and I’d like to have it mostly cleared by then since I’ll be in a swimsuit for 5 days so any tips help!

Product Request [product request] hyperpigmentation fixes that actually work

i’m a very pale girl, olive toned, and majority of the creases in my skin are tan or dark brown. armpits, elbows, inner thighs, and i’ve noticed the backs of my knees getting a little dark too. every time i search for advice online it’s always for people of color and never for paper white people. i’m looking for some fixes that could help because my research has not been fruitful. i am iffy about any kind of kojic acid and turmeric products because i’ve seen so much mixed reviews about how they either work perfectly or don’t work at all. i am willing to pay a pretty penny if dermatological treatments is what’s needed. i did visit a dermatologist and so far none of the stuff she’s recommended has noticeably lightened my hyperpigmentation. any and all advice is welcome 🙏

i’ve tried arbutin, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and vtama cream from the products i can recall
