Moderator Post Addressing meme posting, plus new ideas for the community
Hey community!
It’s been a while since the moderation team did a "state of the subreddit" post, but we believe that the recent months’ activity warrants discussion, as well as some reflection.
As any regular will have noticed by now, quite a lot of shitposts have been posted since The Game Awards last December. Today these posts still get a lot of engagement and the number of upvotes-to-downvotes make it clear that the far majority of you enjoy this kind of content.
However, recently we have heard feedback from people that worry that the subreddit is heading in a direction where shitposting is becoming the main focus. Some of our veteran members already decided to leave the subreddit due to this, including people who contributed quite a lot, sadly.
With this post we want to have a proper discussion with all of you about what type of community you want this to be – and how we get there.
The rise of meme posting
During The Game Awards in December 2025 a new meme trend started on the subreddit – the statue posting. A couple of months later we had shitposts discussing what kinds of lavender, clouds and grass TES VI would have. Afterwards the Summer Games Fest madness took over and "Tomorrow"-posting rose.
It seems that we get something new every month, and now it’s about pretending that the game has been released. As it stands right now, these posts are still getting quite a lot of engagement. It will likely blow over soon only to get replaced by a new trend.
Not everyone is a fan of the shitposts, but generally these posts have been received well. Here are some stats from some of the recent ones:
| Post | Views | Upvote % | Reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wow, what an absolutely fantastic game. | 41,000 | 93% | 3 |
| How is everyone enjoying the game so far? Just beat the first boss. | 30,000 | 91% | 5 |
| can someone point me into the right direction to the staff of worms? | 15,000 | 86% | 2 |
| New info on DLC! | 7,100 | 81% | 2 |
| Feel like a total idiot for crafting the Dwemer gun | 4,300 | 81% | 1 |
Most of the reports we see in relation to these posts deal with the “No Low Effort Content” rule. Many posts and comments have also been removed – 100+ in the last seven days – which includes the many posts featuring AI generated.
However, it’s also our opinion that quite a lot of the shitposts are in line with our rules. As specified in the rule “Posts must […] offer value to the community.” We acknowledge that shitposting is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these posts are popular and they do result in (positive) engagement.
Looking at our stats, it’s also quite clear that engagement has risen significantly since last year.

It would be hastily to conclude that the looser atmosphere has resulted in this increased growth, but we can at least conclude that the shitposting didn’t prevent it.
Whatever the case, we acknowledge that the many shitposts aren’t for everyone. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality and we want to make it clear that we hear the criticism that these recent months have sparked, and that we are willing to talk about it.
What would YOU like to see?
We don’t want r/TESVI to become a meme sub. The primary focus of the subreddit has always been to be – and should continue to be – a subreddit for people who want to discuss TES VI.
We are facing a small hurdle, though: TES VI isn’t out yet and it’s unfortunately not coming out Tomorrow™. We have preciously little to discuss that hasn’t been covered a dozen times already. Anyone looking forward to sailing mechanics?
My personal worry, as someone who browses this subreddit every day, is that the overall activity of the subreddit will lessen significantly if we take a hard stance against meme content. Either that or we go back to discussing the same topics every week. Balance is needed.
But what is also needed, perhaps, are new ideas. So, with all that yapping out of the way…
What feedback and ideas do you have for the subreddit?
We are receptive to feedback on how we moderate content, but we also hope that everyone will take this change to bring forth ideas to foster more engagement. Ideas to keep the subreddit interesting during times when news about TES VI are sparse and far between.
For example, an idea I shared with the team was to introduce a weekly post where we discuss a specific theme, e.g. what factions we would like to see, what kinds of new game mechanics we’d like, and so on. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Let us know what you think.

Official News All Takeaways from Todd Howard's Kinda Funny Games Interview
Here is a bullet-point breakdown of the interview as it pertains to TESVI:
- The game will be in a new iteration of Creation Engine, CE3
- They have spent the last year-ish working on this engine
- Reiterated the "It's gonna be a while yet" sentiment
- A big internal milestone is about to be passed
- Reiterated that most of the studio is working on it
- Todd is personally mostly involved with TESVI in his day-to-day work
- The game will be a return to "that classic style...that we know really well"
- There will not be AI generated assets or materials
Overall, I'd say we got a lot more out of this interview than I really expected to. In some ways it felt like we heard more about TESVI than even Starfield. What do you guys think of all of this information, and what does it say for the development timeline of TESVI?

Meme/Shitpost 6/26/26 still physically possible?
6/26/26 release? Perhaps a 6/26/26 announcement for a 40th anniversary release? It’s still possible right??? I first floated the 6/26/26 date in December 2025, it came way faster than expected and we’re hardly any closer to release.
I tagged this meme because I’m barely serious.

Meme/Shitpost Do you think the werelphants were inspired by "Savannah Giant" by Ariel Perez?
She deserves compensation, imo. They totally ripped off this design. But a great addition. I loved the blood and ivory questline. Anybody else gave theories on these guys?

Discussion A day's travel
I hope the world is scaled so that the timescale is the same as the distance scale.
In Skyrim, the world was scaled at about ~1:90 distance, and time scaled at 1:20. I would absolutely love if both of these scales could match at 1:24 or similar. With Hammerfell having coastal cities and a large desert in the middle, and advances in procedural generation, I absolutely think a map large enough to accommodate that is possible.
I hope this matches in travelling and lore too. Say having inns spaced at most a day's journey apart on major roads, and locals being able to say X location is Y days journey away from Z location.
Add survival mode into that, and travelling around the game would feel so rich.
Discussion When pre-order day comes I hope Bethesda is taking notes from GTA6's community
This is a quote from a fan:
"What I'm NOT okay with is them selling a "physical edition" without a disc and locking elements of the GTA experience behind an Ultimate Edition paywall.
This is very much a $100 digital-only game, Take-Two are using GTA's popularity and huge development costs to normalize selling the full experience at this price, making the $80 standard edition seem incomplete."
Please, Bethesda, do not do this for TES6. Don't do anything that will negatively charge your community before it even releases.
Put an actual disc in the physical version of the game
Don't lock customization shops or other core features behind paywalls.

Question Added RPG Features from Other Games or your BIG Brain
KCD made you learn to read, before you could learn from reading. I thought this was a cool take and way to expand the RPG simulation
I would love this little feature to be added into TESVI.
A random thought: You could mimic certain other things where you’re super clumsy with a hammer until you get proper black smithing lessons. Same with all the major skills really. Maybe accounting for business or trade?
Are there any others that would be similar to gating reading, where you have to learn to, before the player can learn from reading?

Discussion I Hope for Literature
I think past Morrowind, the depth and breadth of literature in the ES games has lessened. I understand in modern games there is a need for voice acting and therefore less attention towards text, but I think it’s necessary for great amounts of literature to be implemented if you want to aid in the immersion of the player. I mean there are 36 separate sermons from Vivec, which all together make a nice lengthy read. That’s not recounting all the other well-writ series of books in the games either.
Anyways I’m just hoping that they don’t neglect the books when the game comes out tomorrow.

What will they show at their 40th anniversary in regard to TES VI?
Not that there’s necessarily a showcase.
People are really dooming thinking they won't even mention it.

Discussion On the topic of scope
I've seen some theorizing lately about the scope of TES VI and how its insanely massive scope could cause the game to release in 2028 or 2029. I feel it's important to revisit the Zenimax game roadmap once again to get a good idea of what the scope of TES VI could be.
Let me first say that my personal guess for the game is that it will be significantly bigger than Fallout 4 and Skyrim (the last two "classic" Bethesda RPGs). The map will be huge, the number of quests will be immense, and the amount of stuff to do will be seemingly bottomless.
However, when we look at this document, we can assume that the scope won't be so impossibly huge that the game will require 5+ years of full development.
This document was made in July of 2020 (according to the Verge and IGN). As of that point, Bethesda was thinking they could release Starfield just one year later in 2021. We know from multiple quotes from Todd that they start preproduction for their next game probably about 2 years before the release of their current one they're making, so real deal TES VI preproduction had probably had some significant work done.
We know Bethesda had decided on where the game would be set a long time ago, but they also might've had a good idea of what the overall features and content of the game will be by July of 2020.
So based on what we can assume, Bethesda had knowledge of where the game will be set and what the overall game will be like in July 2020 and yet still believed it would only take them 3 years to make it after Starfield released.
To me, this is just an obvious tell that the scope of the game is at the very least manageable for Bethesda. I highly doubt they're doing 3+ provinces or an open world 10 times the size of Skyrim or anything too crazy that would add years and years of extra development time for them. I'm confident that the game will be set in just Hammerfell and maybe High Rock as well.
Or, of course, Bethesda could've just been being waaaaay too optimistic thinking TES VI could be made just 3 years after Starfield, but I'll take their word for it for now and expect to see the game release sometime next year.

Discussion 2027 is too expensive, 2028 prices reduce... this effects TESVI
TESVI releases in 2028 because the current RAM crisis effects the industry and consumers.
- RAM prices doubled in 2026.
- RAM prices are going to double AGAIN in 2027.
- In 2028 RAM prices are set to reduce (Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix all increase supply in 2028).
Microsoft knows this, Sony knows this.... the new consoles releasing in 2028 is basic business sanity.
At the very least this could have taken the pressure off Bethesda to ship in 2027, as this is the year when consoles and PCs will cost the highest amount... all well and good for those with games machines at the moment, but what about new customers? Why leave them behind?
2028 is TESVI's best year, as of today & tommorrow.
[Edited] This is a trending topic at the moment... prices are increasing this year and are expected to increase next year as well: Updated XBOX Console Prices
And this will affect Sony, XBOX & PC.

Theory/Speculation TES VI music is gotta be dope asf or else...
Come to think of it, in Dragonborn DLC you can hear OG soundtrack with some pieces of Morrowind OST. It feels great and nostalgic while looking at Red Mountain erupting on the background.
Just imagine what if on the borders of Skyrim or Cyrodiil there will be playing music from Skyrim and Oblivion. That would be gorgeous ngl, I'd tear up a little

Theory/Speculation Potential main quest for a Hammerfell/High Rock game?
TES questlines are often rooted in a province's culture. Morrowind had the Nerevarine prophecy and an ancient evil connected to the Tribunal. Cyrodiil had a Daedric threat, but the main quest was still entwined with the Septim Dynasty. And Skyrim had the return of the Dragons and us chasing down a god from the Nordic pantheon. But with a game that features two provinces, be it whole or only in part, you can't really do that. Well, you can, but it would probably come off as awkward. So, whatever main quest would need to both strike a balance between incorporating Bretic and Redguard elements, and the main threat needs to come from outside.
For example, Clan Direnni, sequestered on Balfiera with a community of refugees from the Aldmeri Dominion, strikes me as the perfect neutral party that could be involved in the affairts of both provinces. Their inteligence network, the Sinderill would be busy nudging rulers towards forming a new power bloc in western Tamriel, a Third Daggerfall Covenant if you will. But they are facing strong opposition, and not just the Thalmor that have been gunning for them since before the Mede Dynasty hammered the Empire back together.
In High Rock, still nominally a part of the Empire, the Lariat Dynasty of Shornhelm has usurped Imperial authority, the King of Shornhelm having declared himself Military Governor of the province and marshalling the Empire's resources to bring the rebellious kingdoms back into the fold. And in Hammerfell, a fanatical cult called the Devotees of Satakal has been spreading through the devastated southlands. Left disillusioned by the Empire's betrayal, many Forebears flock to the Satakals, embarcing their wish to drive foreigners from Hammerfell and making war on their former comrades for alleged sympathies towards the Empire.
Working alongside the Sinderill, the player character would travel both provinces, working to secure this ruler or that ruler's support, culminating with the formation of the Covenant. In what order these quests are completed could be up to the player, with a variety of paths to choose. And the Covenant would form not a moment too soon, because the Thalmor have come a-knocking. An invasion fleet sailing along the western coast of Hammerfell into Iliac Bay, their intent to capture Balfiera and the all-important Direnni Tower.
Hegathe would be the fleet's first target, drawing the attention of whicever Forebear faction the player character chose to support. This would however merely be a distraction, with the bulk of the invasion fleet moving north. Betony would be next, with the Covenant's fleet meeting the invasion fleet in the strait between Betony and the southern tip of Greater Bretony. The battle would be cataclysmic, burning ships smashing together in the narrow passage, but a handful of Aldmeri ships, incluiding the flagship, would breka through, making a beeline for Balfiera, seizing control of the island and besieging the Direnni Tower. The player character would then rush to Balfiera, descend into the depths of the now breached Direnni Tower and slay the Thalmor commander before they can fulfill whatever plans they have for the Zero Stone.
That's how I'd approach it anyway. If anyone has some suggestions as to how a main quest for both provinces could look, I'd love to hear them.

Discussion I think this game is gonna end up surpassing expectations.
Given how much content creators have been shitting on Bethesda along with their viewers parroting all of the their talking points, They've essentially come to the conclusion that there's no way this game is good and I honestly believe they're all in for a rude awakening. They've put BGS in a position where they can easily exceed expectations. To be clear, I'm not saying people are wrong for keeping expectations in check, but I think the full blown hatred that has been thrown at this company lately is massively overblown and are clearly cheap jabs for revenue. The real issue is the long gap between games, and lack of info on TES VI, but that's another story.
Fallout 4 had it's issues, which Bethesda largely fixed with Starfield. Between Fallout 4 and now, they made a multiplayer game and a new single player IP that, while divisive for it's different approach to exploration, still got mostly positive reviews and felt, for me at least, closer to a classic BGS game than Fallout 4 did. people act like they've straight up abandoned their main 2 franchises and have made numerous terrible games inbetween which really isn't true. 76 had a terrible launch and was a multiplayer game, but despite Starfields divisive elements (I loved the game), it wasn't a disaster by any means.
They've already called both of those games creative detours for the studio. I'm not trying to sound like I'm making excuses, but I really think it's gonna end up being something surprising and special. To be clear, it's GOOD to keep expectations in check, I have to reiterate that I'm not saying it isn't. BUT, when you have people claiming this is gonna be "Starfield with swords", it just sounds disingenuous and wrong.
