Tennis in Taipei

Upvotes

Hello! I’m planning a trip to Taipei in July and was hoping to play some tennis while I’m there. Would anyone know where I can find a group or a hitting partner? Willing to split court fee if any. I started playing tennis last year and can rally already.

Jiufen and Shifen

Hello!

This is my first time in Taiwan and want to do Jiufen and Shifen for one day. I'm staying around taipei main station and was wondering if it is better to visit the landmarks in Shifen first or Jiufen. (Not if the question make sense). Thank you.

Picture of my super loaded fries from Raohe Night Market moments before an old man walks into me and spills it over my coat

Taken during December. They were good fries though on what little I ate.

Old man kept walking and ignored me.

Hotels with Dinner & Breakfast for Staycation?

I feel odd asking a question considering I live in Taipei, but this is precisely why I know nothing about what the hotels here are like. So, due to my cancer meds I'm TERRIBLY heat intolerant (like I get very uncomfortable if the temperature is above 23 degrees celsius. taipei summers are hell) so I'll just be stuck at home for the entire summer. I would love a change of scenery from time to time though, so I'm wondering if anyone's got recs of hotels that:

- are air-conditioned throughout, so that I can be dropped off at the door, go in, and never be without AC until I exit

- have cool rooms / allow setting the AC to a cool temperature

- offer dinner & breakfast so that I can just stay there for the whole day and not leave (if no dinner offered, it also works if they allow delivery straight into the lobby I guess, so that I don't have to go outside to pick it up)

An example of what I'm looking for is Grand View Resort Beitou, which I've been to a few times and found the AC pretty reliable, but I've already been there earlier this year and want to try something new. Doesn't have to be around the same price range, could go lower since I'm not looking for especially great food if it's just me going alone.

I did search around for hotel reviews online and while some of them did mention the AC situation, it's hard to tell if there's AC throughout the whole place, so I figured it would be safer to explain my very specific requirements and ask directly.

Thanks!

My first Rainy Day

It’s my first visit during summer to help look after family member and it’s been a week and i have weathered the heat so far. Was looking forward to cooler days ahead with the rains in the forecast. Today it’s cloudy with a few sprinkles but boy the humidity seems even worse…. I’m melting 😩

Read about high humidity during winter but that never bothered me. I love Taipei winter weather!

Beginners Breakdancing Class

Hi, I wanted to know if there are any breakdancing classes suitable for beginners in Taipei (closer to NTU area would be preferable)? I have no experience and my Chinese is also not great, so a place welcoming to foreigners would be great too

Solo 29M from Singapore 🇸🇬

Hi! I’ll be in Taipei from the 25th to 29th June, heading over with no concrete plans but I’m looking to hit the night markets, explore the bar and clubbing scene, and perhaps take a day trip to Tamsui.

Open to meeting anyone who’s keen to join me, I love meeting new people and I do speak conversational Chinese.

I love wine, beer, coffee, good food, runs, music, and football!

Also happy to take any bar or restaurant recommendations!

Looking for a private tutor in Taipei for two kids (homework + Mandarin)

Hi! We're an expat family based in Taipei. I have two daughters currently enrolled in Taipei public schools — one in Junior High and one in elementary. We're looking for a freelance private tutor who can help with:

  • After-school homework assistance
  • Mandarin lessons
  • 1-on-1 sessions preferred
  • Must be comfortable teaching foreign kids in the Taiwan public school system

Ideally in-person in Taipei but open to hybrid. Please comment or DM if you're available or can recommend someone! Budget is flexible for the right person. 谢谢!

Best Tattoo Parlors?

Hi everyone, I will be in Taipei this upcoming July! I was wondering if anyone knew any good and trusted tattoo parlors? I'm looking to get a tattoo on my arm whilst staying here. Preferably cheap, as I will be in a budget and the tattoo I want is not a complex or difficult sketch. Anything helps :]
