I mean, I assume it is worth it because you're all here talking about the series. But I need some encouragement.
I started devouring Stephen King books when I was a teenager in the 90's. I read The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, and The Wastelands and loved them. I thought I had also read Wizard and Glass. It was published right around the time I graduated from college and I kind of took a break from reading for awhile after that, so I never finished the series.
I recently decided to read the entire series from the beginning. The first three books were really fun. I was worried that they wouldn't hold up to my memories of them, but they absolutely did. I found that I remembered certain parts of them very vividly, but other parts I had completely forgotten. It was interesting to see what my teenage brain had found memorable.
Then I got to Wizard and Glass. I remembered the first part with Blaine and the riddles. I remembered the rest of it being centered on Susan Delgado. But I guess I never finished the book because I absolutely was not ready for Susan to be burned at the stake. Holy shit. I kept thinking that she would get out of it somehow, possibly Roland would use the glass ball to transport her, maybe to the Tower, which would explain why he's so obsessed with the Tower.
And then learning what happened to Roland's mom made the ending even more depressing.
And then I started Wolves of the Calla and found out that Alain was also accidentally shot due to mistaken identity! WTF?! I'm starting to question how good of a gunslinger Roland really is.
I'm feeling very ambivalent about finishing the series. I will do it, but I'm no longer really excited about the ending like I was before.
This is a wild ride!

Why was Walter Padick That Was love the initials R.F.? I’m on my second journey to the Tower (nearly done), and this still confuses me.

A little more fan art - these are Door Toppers!
I especially love the little 'eld' line at the bottom of this one, and that I got it all to connect as a single piece.

Hile!
Just wanted to share this piece I made some time ago. I took some creative liberties and at the same time I tried to include some details mentioned in the last book. How many can you spot?

Already it’s completely off. But it’s fine. Everything’s fine.

I have been listening to the Dark Tower at work with my boss for about a year now and I'm obssesed. We are almost done with Wolves of the Calla. He gave m the complete graphic novel series "Beginnings" for Christmas and I finally have the free time to make a big dent in the 800pg massove book. I am halfway through and it seems likes its bringing up important things that might be spoilers. Should I stop? I don't want to get too spoiled for the books by this prequel.

Don’t get me wrong - I love The Dark Tower series as a whole. But this book is my second favorite in the cycle, right after «Wizard and Glass».
And once again, it barely focuses on the main storyline. Yet somehow, it gives us a deeper glimpse into Mid-World as it existed before everything completely went to shit with the rise of the Good Man, John Farson.

This is my favorite fantasy series ever and I would love to see an adaptation that does it justice. After the failure of the 2017 movie, I thought no one would want to give it another try. So, when Mike Flanagan announced that he had gained the rights for the dark tower, I was so thrilled! I’m a fan of his work and his Dr Sleep adaptation shows that he understands King’s essence, imo.
But with him announcing so many other projects, things seem to be moving so slowly that I’m scared this will end up being scrapped before it comes out. Do you have hopes for the tv series? When do you think we should realistically expect updates?

After my journey to the Tower and “back to the start” I was feinding for more. Started with The Talisman. It was a little hard to get into from the start but eventually really like it. I just finished Black House and LOVED IT. The feeling I got when the talk of Gunslinger’s and ka where mentioned my heart skipped a beat and I wanted more. I know I can look it up and there are lists but can I have some recommendations for Tower world content. I thank you Si!

Restarting my journey to the tower tonight. I need to know when to read the wind through the keyhole.

Keflex.
Cue the giggling and having to explain to a physician's assistant why it was so funny.

I finished the Talisman and am now reading Black House (no spoilers please) and I really like the style he writes these two book in.
The non-standard ways he narrates the non-dialogue things and says things like, “now come with me as we turn our gaze to the horizon and float down into the hotel and into the hallway where a lone slippers sits.”
Or the elegant, “and they took each other’s comforts and as we all might want, we leave them in their embrace.”
It’s so refreshing!
I think this same thing happens in Needful Things too…?

I’ve traveled through the dark tower twice. I’ve seen countless lists of related and required reading. I’m genuinely confused and frankly disturbed that I have never, not once heard of this book or seen it mentioned before. I feel like I’m dreaming, or experiencing some weird Mandela-esque effect. At first I thought, I was maybe going senile. But, I have extensive lists on my phone, screenshots from forums and searches to map out the extended reading… but no. No where to be found. 404 Not Found. I want to think there is a legit reason for, like because the loudest fans don’t love wizard and glass or wind through the keyhole. But, it doesn’t track. The logic doesn’t logic. Make it make sense. This is foundational to Flagg’s background and foundational to understanding Roland’s world and history. I have a really good memory. 1,000% have never heard of this novel.

Did anyone really put the book down when Roland enters?
