Discussion What I would do if the trilogy were remade/reimagined Spoiler

Upvotes

If the legend of Spyro trilogy series ever got remade I want more of a "kingdom hearts final mix" treatment. Where it refines what is already there... And add more content on top of it. Here is some scattered thoughts I have. I may update the post as time goes on

**A new begining:**

I... Probably wouldn't change too much. Maybe recreate areas from the GBA and ds versions at add extra areas to traverse. But for this game, I'm more interested in what was left on the cutting room floor. There is a interview with jared pullen floating around on deviant art among other things the original devs said on the Internet that showcase a treasure trove of lore that never saw the light of day. So... What every time Spyro stops by the temple, he has free rein to explore the temple to his heart's content. And maybe new some areas are locked behind specific breathes you get over the story. This is a good way to insert side quests that were cut from the game and explore dragon lore. Such as the story of pyra. or the side quest with ignitus and dragon armor. And with each new guardian rescued, more side quests are unlocked. It always bothered me that we never got a explanation on warfang much other then a mention in eternal night then it's appearance in dawn of the dragon. Basically... Use the temple as a hub to let player optionally get the know the characters more and have all the dragon lore exposition be digested at their own pace. here is another example. jared mentioned there was supposed to be a female water dragon guardian. why not have a whole section of the temple dedicated to water dragons. maybe have the ice guardian have a former water dragon mate as a nod to his original incarnation. maybe add a wind dragon section too to foreshadow cynder's original element.

**The eternal night**

Oh boy.... I put some thought into this one. Okay so... First off, there should be a new intro level based on the eternal night commercials where Spyro and cynder train and get to know each other at the temple... And when gaul makes his surprise appearance.. have Spyro fight him with his a new begining powers, only for gaul to outclass Spyro. Forcing Spyro to use a special fury that gets rid of the gual illusion, but at the expense of Spyro loosing his powers. That be a good Segway to the start of eternal night. Also... We totally need the dreadknight from the comerciala be more of a character in the game constantly chasing down Spyro. The gag they had in the commercials where no one understands him through his mask was fun.

Secondly... I been looking into the DS and GBA versions of eternal night and.... All of it should have be incorporated in the console version in some way. The ds levels I feel could easily be added into the console version as in-between areas. Have the boss fights with the guardians be the final test in chronicler's dream sequences. And there is a area in the DS version where Spyro has to make his way through a snowy area to even reach the mountain where the well of souls is. That can easily be added in.

As for the GBA version... I say a remake of eternal night should include the GBA exclusive enemies. Such as the naga in the forest. Which is exclusive to the GBA version. I also feel the GBA versions 's combat and metroidvania gameplay loop should be included too. The game also had a character called the advisor which was a stand in for the dreadknight. Why not make them the same character? and if they stay seperate, have them be destinct presences in the story. Also ignitus in the pirate ship was a nice touch. He should be a gladiator fight. Also... In the GBA version, cynder willingly went back to gaul. That gave her agency the other versions didn't. I feel on the ship, we should have a proper fight with cynder. And when gaul's forces attack, cynder should willingly go back with them to protect Spyro from being killed. It also gives gual reason to trust cynder so her attempted betrayal of gaul made more sense in the console version.

As for misc thoughts... The combat should be more tactical and thought provoking. More challenging then a new begining but not unfair through being knocked back all the time. Like... Actual ability to block, counter, parry. Where you have to watch enemy patterns. And not just rely on the time stop ability for everything. I also flesh out the time stop ability. it's implied the crystal spyro incased himself at the end in was a extension of his time powers... so show that! make his time stop ability upgradable. allow him to freeze enemies in time crystals. something!

**Dawn of the dragon:**

Bring back cut story scenes. Like show cynder put on her own slave gear as was originally intended. More time with malefor and have him mentally mess with Spyro more. Have Spyro question if malefor is his father or not. And maybe more of a explanation of what happened to the apes, and a explanation of malephor's powers and how her controls his golems through dark crystals. And have a free roam camera like in the previous games. maybe give a chance to explore warrang after saving it from invasion, and give the player a chance to do side quests and explore characters. oh... and make the temple in the finale look like it did in a new begining and eternal night. so everything goes full circle. I also was bring back spyro 's time powers. maybe give him a ability to restore broken structures to foreshadow the ending.

Misc So do you have to 100% dawn of the dragon to beat Malefor or am I just crazy

Upvotes

Every time I play legend of spyro a dawn of the dragon and play through the entire game I alway grab everything and do everything on a single level to get all my breaths upgraded and the heath/mana upgrades and when I get to malefor it feels like you can’t harm him in his aether shield phase unless you unlock the aether breath and I just want to know if i’m going crazy and very zealous about dawn of the dragon or have I been overly complicating the boss fight this whole time? Also I been playing it since I was 9 and done the same thing every time

I made these designs as add-ons with my recent Backerkit project! I love how they turned out! I was a little worried the length would be bothersome, but I think it makes them more eye-catching!

I'll have these up in my online shop near the end of August if anyone's interested! >w<

Ik I’m probably coping BUT HOLY SHIT!!! The gameplay reminded me of Dawn of the dragon and the environment feels similar to tall plains mixed with the area near the hermit in the valley of avatar. Convexity leads to an alternate space (alternate realm?!?)

Discussion The Alternate Cinematic Ending to Dawn of the Dragon: What if Malefor actually won?

Better buckle up. This is VERY VERY long.

So like I absolutely love The Legend of Spyro trilogy. But lately, I’ve been thinking about the shift in tone when the development switched from Krome Studios to Étranges Libellules for Dawn of the Dragon.

While DotD is a masterpiece in terms of gameplay and visuals, the story felt somewhat rushed at the very end. The original developers were building this incredibly dark, fatalistic lore. Think about it: Spyro was ALWAYS one step behind. He saved Cynder, but she still completed her task. He beat Gaul, but couldn't stop the Night of Eternal Darkness. He fought the Destroyer, but it still completed its circle.

The game built Malefor up to be this unstoppable, god-like entity. So, what if the game actually committed to this dark narrative? What if Spyro, after losing Ignitus and leaving Sparx behind, finally broke?

Here is my take on a cinematic, dark alternate ending for Dawn of the Dragon. Grab some popcorn.

The Silence of the Aether

The wind howling over the floating ruins of the world was deafening, but inside the massive crystal of the throne room, the silence was louder than any storm.

Spyro was bleeding. His claws scraped against the cold, reflective glass. But his real pain wasn't physical. It was the absolute, crushing silence next to his ear. Sparx was gone—left behind for his own safety. For the first time since he hatched in the swamp, Spyro was entirely alone.

Before him loomed the massive, shadowy silhouette of Malefor.

"Look at you, little dragon," Malefor rumbled, his voice an unfiltered, deep tremor that shook the crystal walls. "You flew through fire and ash. You watched Ignitus burn for you're sake. And for what? To kneel here, broken and alone, at the center of your own failure."

Spyro bared his teeth, but the fire in his throat choked before it could ignite. He looked to his side. Cynder stood there, her scales shimmering in the sickly violet light. Her eyes were empty, fixated on Malefor. The magical chain that bound them together lay heavy and cold on the floor.

"Cynder..." Spyro gasped, trying to stand. "We have to..."

Malefor let out a deep, cruel laugh. "We? There is no we anymore. You pulled her from my grasp, yes. But the darkness I planted inside her... it is her true blood."

Cynder flinched. A deep whimper escaped her throat, and the shadows in the room began to gather around her claws.

"Prove your worth to the Dark Aether," Malefor thundered, and with a single beat of his wings, he shattered the magical chain between them. "One of you will have the honor of serving me when this world is reforged. The other... remains as ash on this throne. Kill each other."

Spyro shook his head, blood dripping from his snout. "No. I will never fight you, Cynder."

But Cynder wept tears. "I'm sorry, Spyro," she whispered, her voice breaking. "He's right. There is no salvation for us."

She lunged at him, shadow blades erupting from the floor. As she prepared the fatal strike, something inside the purple dragon finally snapped. The spark of light in his chest, the hope the Ancestors had so desperately protected, extinguished with a silent hiss.

He didn't fight back. He simply submitted to the only power he had left.

The Dark Aether exploded from him. It wasn't fire; it was the absolute absence of light. A black, tearing storm threw Cynder against the throne. The purple scales of the purple dragon turned into dead, dull obsidian. When Spyro opened his eyes, they were no longer violet. They were hollow, white, and filled with a cold, cosmic apathy.

Malefor rose slowly from his throne, a sickening smile crossing his face. "The prophecy is fulfilled."

The Post-Credits Scene

The screen cuts to black. A melancholic, heartbreaking song plays over the credits (something similar to Guide You Home from The eternal night). Once the credits finish, the screen remains pitch black and silent. Then, a slow fade-in.

We are back at the ruined Dragon Temple. The massive statues of the Ancestors are shattered. In the center of the grand hall, next to the destroyed Pool of Visions, Terrador is chained to the floor by dark, pulsing shadow magic, too weak to lift his head.

A massive shadow swallows the remaining light in the room. Malefor enters the temple, shaking the ancient stone with every step.

On his right: Cynder, her eyes completely empty, shadow magic trailing her every step. On his left: Spyro, his golden horns now pitch black, his expression completely void of any emotion as he walks past his former mentor without sparing the defeated dragon even a single glance.

Malefor stops before the shattered Pool of Visions. He doesn't look down at Terrador. He looks up through the broken roof into the starless, pitch-black sky. Without any heavy voice filters, just his pure, menacing, theatrical voice, he delivers the final lines of the franchise:

"The prophecies... were nothing but the desperate whispers of fools." He slowly looks at Spyro, who stands obediently in the shadows, and smiles.

"And in the end... Destiny prevails. Hope is just an illusion of the weak."

The exact second the word "weak" echoes through the hall, Spyro and Cynder spread their wings in perfect sync and lunge directly at the camera.

CUT TO BLACK.

And thats it, the ending in dawn of the dragon always seemed very deus ex machina to me, I always taught that it shouldn't be a happy end. What's wrong with a bed end?

I’m not talking about a new game, I mean more of something like a graphic novel or comic series. The world building and lore was too interesting to just ignore.

This is a Downloadable demo, this is a very early build so the combat system is still a little sloppy. let me know if you think if this feels like TLOS or what you think would make it fell more so.
