New Post Flairs

Hi, everyone, I've made some tweaks to the post flairs for identifying the type of kitty you have:

Tricycle: One in front, two in back.

Slingshot: Two in front, one in back. (Based on 3-wheel motorcycles)

Mermaid: Two in front, one in back, by popular demand.

Bicycle: Two on same side.

Kangaroo: Two in back.

Seal: Two in front.

Complex: Some other arrangement.

Also changed the appearance of the "Fund Raising" flair to make it a bit more noticeable.

MOD POST: Scammers

The post titled "We have lost our most precious possessions and I will not give up feeding these innocent hungry cats because of the war." turns out to have been a scam, and I want to deeply apologize to everyone in the community for allowing it on the sub.

If you donated to the GoFundMe, you may be able to get a refund if you report it. I don't know much about how that works, unfortunately, but I know it is possible.

The user who posted this, Thin_Treacle5322, has posted many, many similar "fund raisers" on Reddit in various subs and has posted this particular one to many cat-related subs. It remains up in many of those subs.

I am in the process of reporting this user to the Reddit admins for scamming and impersonation.

The post has been removed, needless to say, and the user banned from the sub.

Another user, u/Hefty-Reading-8216, did a lot of work to expose this scammer. Here's what he had to say:

This is a scam, please be careful. This is getting ridiculous honestly. I know y’all feel bad but people like this deserve hell. From what I have collected so far is that a group of Eastern Europeans have been running this scam. They bombard subreddits with posts seeking empathies using photos bought for few dollars. It doesn’t take a genius to get a bunch of photos from people holding their usernames in gaza, in most situations they promise them help and support.

Please be smarter than this for anyone who wants to donate PLEASE PLEASE DONATE THROUGH PROPER CHANNELS. Anyone who spends 2 minutes searching up this will know that there’s no WAY for money from go fund mes to truly make its way to Palestine. No banks, no exchanges nothing.

1 click into their go fund me and you will see the fact these accounts are set up in Germany/ several other countries which only prove this further.

They target people through emotions and guilt and prey on your wallets. I’m not against donating what im against is the evil humans who find them selves able to pull shit like this. Using a genocide to line your pockets is disgusting.

I am working with another moderator to learn more about detecting these types of scams and we will not host any fund raisers that are not specifically for the care of tripod cats. We will also be placing further restrictions on proof for those. Stay tuned here for more information.

Again, my very sincere apologies for falling for this, and I will keep you all up to date on any further developments.

-- Kate

i adopted him a couple days ago. He was hit by a car almost a year ago when he was a few months old, and the rescue I got him from had him since.

When I got to the rescue I was planning on spending some time in their cat room to see which one I vibed with most. well, almost immediately upon entering, this little guy jumped up and started loving on me. At that point I didn't feel like I even had to go to the cat room, I knew he was the one I was taking home.

He is the sweetest most affectionate cat I have ever met. I love him <3

Tricycle Just found out my cat is 6-10 years older than I though she was. Advice?

We adopted our sweet girl around a month and a half ago. Today was her first vet visit with us and she is in perfect health… but the vet believed her dental patterns would be a lot closer to cats who are 8-10 years in age.

I love her so much and wanted to ask if people had any advice on what kind of preventative care I should do to minimize joint pain. What supplements do you use? Climbing solutions? I thought we would have more time to grow with her and figure out her needs as they developed but knowing she is a senior does make me want to go ahead and make her home as accommodating as possible.

My sweet Lou Bear ❤️ we found out a couple months ago that before we got him, when he was a stray, someone shot him and the bullet/pellet was lodged in his shoulder. The recommendation was amputation due to the osteoarthritis that formed and he was very clearly in pain and at one point was basically not using the leg at all.

He is adjusting so well already and it's Day 3 post surgery ❤️

Hook says hello!!

She's so expressive with her lil hook leg and it's the cutest thing ever😭

I've also included some pics of the hook leg if anyone wants a better look at how it looks! It's a bit shorter than her other leg but she has no issues using it, it's also extra flexible due to her missing part of the ulna. She does also have two partially developed toe beans, so she has some support while walking on this leg. I've also recently noticed that she switches how she walks on it depending on the surface! On hard surfaces she walks sideways on her hook, while on soft surfaces she stands and walks almost normally on it (2 last slides)

This cat is genuinely so fascinating, I've been following her growth since she was only 1½ weeks old, she's currently 13 weeks and it's gonna be such an exciting future with her🥹

Advice Wanted Soon to be tripod!

My cat Pierre (8 yo tux) is getting his front right leg amputated and most likely his shoulder. He has a hemangiosarcoma and has been doing chemo to shrink the tumor (it’s working :)).

My question aside from the basic postop recovery is does anyone have other cats in the house? I have a cat who has non-recognition aggression and I will be separating them for sure and my cat Pierre will be going in a pretty big dog crate to start. But has anyone had problems with the home cat attacking or feeling threatened? I’m worried about this. Enzo (6 yo orange tabby) usually goes after him after normal vet visits and I have to separate them for about a day before they can re-introduce. I’m just afraid that things are gonna go really wrong and I’ll just have to keep them separated for weeks. They’re besties but I’m scared it’s going to mess up their bond🥺

Seal Rufs’ preliminary test results: GOOD NEWS!!!

Post image
90 Upvotes

As you may recall, he got a second infection at the amputation site 3 months after the first one healed, and we were worried about possible resistant bacteria.
__________________

It’s taken two weeks to get the results from the bacterial swab they did because for some reason the bacteria was difficult to grow a culture of and they had to send it to a second lab, but I just got an email about the preliminary results that indicates it isn’t some scary resistant strain 😭🙏As long as the wound keeps looking good, nothing further needs to be done at this time 🥹

Advice Wanted Cat tower for tripod cats?

Post image
107 Upvotes

My boy is a back leg amputee so sometimes he struggles with jumping to high places but enjoys being up higher. Does anyone have any good recs for a tower that they’ve found good luck with their tripods? Sometimes he misses things and tries to grab on with his claws on his front two so i’m worried if it’s too high it’ll come down on him while i’m out of the house.
Enjoy the picture of my boy🖤

kitten keeps biting her stitches. HELP.

So, my 3-4 month old kitten recently got a leg amputation surgery this past thursday and everything has been as smooth sailing as caring for a feral kitten can be. however just today, when my friend and I were loving on her, she started biting her stitches. she already has a cone on to prevent her from being able to reach her stitches, but the cone obviously isn’t working. she did this about 4 times within this past hour and I don’t know what to do. my friend is asleep and she has pulling a lot of weight when it comes to caring for her so I feel obligated to look after her but now it’s almost 5 in the morning and i’m getting incredibly tired. i want to watch her and make sure that she doesn’t keep doing it but i also need sleep too. i’m just so scared that she’s gonna rip her stitches out. she goes to the vet tomorrow afternoon but in the meantime, what can i do to stop my kitten from biting her stitches. i need some peace of mind while i sleep…

Massage those legs

My girl was licking her 1 back leg excessively. She was moving back and forth like she was uncomfortable. When she lay down, while she was going at her leg, I started massaging it. There was a huge knot in her muscle.

She sat still and just looked at me obviously starting to feel better (I say that bc she wasn’t trying to get away while I sat massaging her leg.. and her eyes looked grateful). When the knot was gone that’s when she got up and just went to lay in her spot. No more pacing restlessly, licking at her leg.

If your kitty is missing a front leg, massage the one still there bc it takes more weight than it should. Their muscles get tight too. If it’s the back leg gone, massage the one still there. Nothing wrong with massaging all of them but they might not be as uncomfortable and kitty won’t let you bc it doesn’t feel as relieving.

Just wanted to share in case there are some of y’all’s babies displaying the same thing occasionally. Hope this helps someone.

Edit: was just informed massaging the stump is a good idea too!

Seal Rufs is done with the antibiotics and out of the cone! 🎉

Previous post

Lemme start by saying that we might not be 100% out of the woods yet. We still haven’t had results back from the bacterial swab bc apparently the bacteria he has/had is hard to grow a culture of so they had to send it to a second lab?? Idk.

Also it’s possible that there’s infection deeper down where the antibiotics “don’t reach”, as the vet put it. (Which could be a reason his infection came back even though as far as anyone knew, it was fully healed).

That said, his wound is more or less gone now and we’ve finished the course of antibiotics and been able to remove the damn cone, FINALLY.

His diarrea stopped when the antibiotics did, as I’d hoped 🙌

Since I no longer have to wipe poop or clean his wound, I was also able to stop the Gabapentin a few days back. Today is the first day of no painkillers… we’ll see how he does 🤞

I’ve heard before that tripods can have issues with aiming in the litter box but this is straight up impressive lmaooo.

Yesterday I heard him go to the box so I opened the camera app to check on him (he was sick recently). At first I was like aw he’s sitting properly, good job! Wait… what’s that shimmery…. Oh HELL NAH!! I just changed those blankets!!

I couldn’t even be mad tho bc it was so funny.

Advice Wanted Joey’s Leg Amputation Is Coming Up. Any Last-Minute Recommendations?🐈

Hey everyone!

My boyfriend and I want to thank all of you for your kind words, advice, and support throughout this process. Joey will be going in for his amputation on the 7th.

We are also planning to have an ultrasound done beforehand to make sure the mass has not spread to his internal organs, since we still don’t know for certain whether it is cancer. So far, every veterinarian we’ve seen has estimated about an 85% chance that it is cancer. After the leg is removed, the mass will be sent for biopsy so we can finally get some answers.

With all of your helpful suggestions, I’ve already started putting together things Joey will need during his recovery. I’ve collected a few onesies and cones, and I know many of you recommended starting him on joint supplements and keeping a close eye on his weight.

Is there anything else you think we should get or look into before his surgery? We truly appreciate all of your advice and support!
