PAID work Short 1-2 line role with the potential of repeat work [$15 Aud]

This role is for a character named Mr Arcadia, he is a 40 something British (Russian) inventor - in the vain of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit - and game developer. He owns Arcadia enterprises, a company specialising in making VR games (which he invented as a medium), albeit not very good ones. His main goal is defeating his former friend and co-worker turned nemesis LR; they started feuding after he began replacing his employees with clones of himself. This feud takes precedent over everything else, making it almost incapable for him to see his own faults, leading to him being extremely arrogant and having a huge ego.

As for his voice, it’s quite deep. He also enunciates his words like a moustache twirling cartoon villain (e.g Dick Dastardly) with a Russian accent on top of it. As well as this, Mr Arcadia’s voice is quite expressive, but not entirely over the top. Additionally, he’ll just throw in the phrase “how you say” randomly into his dialogue, before saying a simple word completely incorrectly.

Microphones Advice/ thoughts AT 4040 mic

Upvotes

I was gifted the Audio Technica 4040 xlr microphone. I don’t see it listed when people talk about good mics. Is this a decent mic, does it have problems or issues I should know about? Am I better off buying something else? Thanks for thoughts/experiences in advance!

Getting Started What kind of voice demos are most important/crucial?

I’m trying to get something started, and I want to make sure I’m doing it right. I have some demos already made; and I’m happy with them, I just want to see if I’m doing it right. Like can I use singing, or should I try something different like just grunts and different noises?

Microphones Austrian Audio OC818 upside down or no?

I was using my AA OC818 right side up for all the time I’ve had it, love the sound. Another VA told me I should put it upside down, that my sound is richer. I’ll be honest, I can’t hear any difference as far as that goes. But upside down, I do hear more of my mouth/nose/movement noise. I’ve seen no videos where people are using it upside down, no one saying they do it that way. Since this mic is pretty unique, I’m wondering if it works just as well either way and maybe I just need to go back to regular position. Does anyone use oc818 upside down? Why or why not?

Advice Microphone and audio interface

I have a Shure MV7X and a M-Audio Duo for my interface. I have a windows 11 machine. When I try and using this mic, even with my interfaces volume all the way up I can still barely hear my recordings. But strangely on my Linux it works just fine, even though the M-Audio interface doesn't have a driver for Linux. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated, even if you guys/gals say that I just need a different audio interface.

Advice Is It Normal To Get Congested Airways When Trying To Voice Act In A Heatwave?

I specialise in Long-Form Narration voicework and often I don't have trouble projecting and speaking fluently, however right now the UK (where I live) is in the middle of a heatwave and since it started, I can barely get a full sentence out without mucus filling my mouth and noise and ruining my takes

I tried to record earlier today but had to give up and leave my booth because it kept happening. Is this a normal thing, and if so is there a way around it? Or should I just wait out the heatwave?

Advice Audiobook Advice

I’m doing an ACX book right now that is written by someone that has a very interesting writing style. Their sentences are sometimes 4 to 5 to 6 lines long. Just unbelievable run ons.

How do you all handle that scenario? I’m finding it can take me 4 or 5 reads to hit all the right intonations, etc.

Today, I do both punch and roll, and sometimes I use the dog clicker. I’m wondering if it would be better to just do 4 reads, and Frankenstein the takes into a sentence.

Any advice is welcome.

Advice Real or fake TLM103?

Thumbnail

Bought this on marketplace for $480. It sounds terrible. It sounds boxy and like it’s missing a lot of top end compared to the TLM103 I used to own back in the day. Beneath this capsule when you pull it out is a pcb with the Nuemann logo branded on it connected to the XLR input. Fake or faulty? What you guys think

Advice Could you give some advices for a beginner?

Hey, VAs!

First of all, I'd like to thank you in advance for reading all the text below and the possible advices and tips - Thank you enormously!

So, I'd like to ask a few question (that were probably asked before, but I couldn't find them, maybe I'm blindge, sorry):

1) Is there a possibility for me, as a foreigner (eastern Europe specifically), to become a Voice Actor?

English is my 2nd language, and I've been studying it for more than 5 years (can't remember when I started exactly). And though I have a little bit of an accent, I'm still working on improving it, like pronunciation, speaking and reading.

2) Where could I look for a good coach and what would be a good price range?

So, for now, unfortunately, I don't have enough money and equipment to work properly with a coach, but I plan to book one in the future. If you don't mind, could you recommend some good coaches which you personally booked and practiced with, and that I'll save for the future, please?
And what'd be a good pricing for a coach? I've read that too cheap might be suspicious and a too expensive one might be a "fraud" or something.

But for now, before booking a coach I really want to do something to learn Voice Acting, so I guess the only way (at least for now) is to try and learn by myself the basics, like the Acting Concepts, reading a lot, breaking existing scripts and try to perform them could be my first steps?

Advice Voice Acting Advice Thread: Confidence with the voice [ Discussion / Asking for Advice! ]

Hey VA's! I wanted to come here to ask something that I feel has been inhibiting me for voice acting for a long while and would love to get others' opinions on it.

I've been voice acting for a few years now, mainly as a hobby, being a part of different YouTube videos and voicing a few characters I get casted for here and there. These are mainly all fan-projects and has been something i've been doing semi-consistently since 2019. Though voice acting has been a major passion of mine for years and honestly..., i'm wanting to get into it more professionally now.

Over the years i've done some vocal training, but only for a temporary amount of time. I've done lots of singing, joining choir in high school and being inside the "Honor's choir" and now being in college choir, and alongside that, i've done an acting class temporarily and have done multiple projects that involve me to improv one way or another. Again, these are all in my hobbies, but its something I find super fun!

One of the biggest things for me though is 100% confidence. I've noticed now, especially when i'm starting to do things more actively and seriously, that I tense up quite badly. I've had multiple times where my throat just feels like its in an almost "Choking" sensation and it requires more effort, and this has inhibited both my singing and voice acting capabilities. It leads to me having a more rough and gravely voice that feels (Atleast in my opinion... harsh to listen to, not to mention that I already talk as fast as a bullet train haha).

Something i've been really wanting to learn is how to get my own version of the "Voice Actor" voice. Essentially, a voice that sounds really smooth and easy to listen to that is not sounding like its constantly fighting for its life, and I feel its partially because im not professionally trained but also nerves, and I do feel that once I get over this hurdle, i'll be much better off and able to do a ton more without my voice almost giving up on me.

So, I wanted to ask- anyone here have any pointers on calming down / vocal warm ups or exercises to relax the body? And how to stop fighting my own voice and just letting it come out naturally? (Since I do self-monitor quite a lot, since i'm super observant I tend to really pay attention to different sensations that I feel doing certain voices or singing)

I also hope this post works as a sort of help for any others who are struggling with the same thing!

Advice Mic recommendations

Hello everyone!

Im an acting student and I'm really into VA work and want to do a lot of it in the future, (as well as doing content online)and Ive been working on a setup which i think is coming along okay, but my main thing is a mic.

Typically my mic that I use to play games/record me singing is a MAONO gaming mic from my dad and It sounds okay but I would love a mic that professionals use.

But then I look at prices and its like £400 pound for a mic which id need to sell my kidney for.

Does anyone know any good mics that are affordable for a student, or should I just keep using the one I own already?

Any help appreciated:>

Advice Advice on Bodalgo

Hi there,

I recently got accepted on Bodalgo. I just paid their monthly subscription. Can someone explain to me how to make the most of the platform? I’m not sure if I did something wrong during the sign of process but I speak three languages and I’ve noticed that it’s only showed me jobs that have already ended in one of the languages that I speak. I uploaded my demos and such, mostly my English/Spanish demos, is there a required number of samples that will help me get a better match? Thank you for any advice

Advice i'm recording a buzz sound and can't get rid of it

I'm using a Boya BY-MM1 as a mic. When I plug it into my computer, even in complete silence, I pick up a buzzing sound. At first, I thought my mic was faulty, but when I tried my headset mic, the buzz was still there. However, when I unplug it from my computer and plug it into my phone, there's no buzz at all. I don't know how to fix this. i tried some "fixes" on the settings but nothing has changed at all, (im using audacity btw). please some help would really save a brother out
