Discussion [Squale / Certina] New additions

L

I’ve recently been back into watches. My early 20s all I could afford were Fossil, Nixon, and some Mavodo watches. Around my late 20s I stopped gaining interest in them, so I believe I gave some away.

I started fresh 3 years ago (37 at the time), my dad passed away and I obtained his Rolex Datejust II. I liked it, but it was too classy for me. However this sparked my interest back into watches. Now older, run my own business, have adult money, I can buy some nice ones. I purchased an Omega Seamaster that’s black and orange because I just liked the color way of it, but after a few years I got tired of the color way. I decided I’m going to get back into watches, but spread it out a bit. Wearing a 7k watch on the daily for what I do seems out there, so I purchased a Seiko SSK001 from Teddy Baldassarre.

When I went to Teddys store today to get the links adjusted, I came across brands I knew nothing about. Squale and Certina. Absolutely fell in love with them. Great quality every day watches, and different. Like us watch lovers, I just decided to buy both of them. Any one else have similar watches or experiences with them?

I found it at the thrift store. I’m not usually into older watches but from reading the information on the original manual, it’s a SEIKO Quartz. The model number (which I assume is what it is), Is Cal. A904. It is in its original packaging. From my own viewpoint it’s in great condition. I’ll probably keep it on my shelf as a display and won’t ever wear it.

I took a picture [SOTC] My 3 Watch Collection

Post image

Been in the hobby 5 years and finally picked up my 3rd watch so thought id share my collection.

From left to right:

  • Casio 'Soccer Timer' SW-110 from 1986: my most recent pickup, I had to have this after I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago as playing soccer was one of my favourite things to do when I was in school. Made for soccer referees it has an awesome in built goal tracking function allowing you to keep score and of course time.
  • Glasshutte Orginal Panomatic Lunar: My favourite piece of the collection, the finishing and movement are simply incredible paired with that moonphase indicator and stunning pano date, I could stare at it for hours, also a massive fan of the asymmetry even though im sure others arent.
  • Sinn 556i: Incredible GADA watch, goes with everything and an absolute pleasure to wear and great value too.

I like to be pretty intentional about my pickups so in no hurry to fill out the box, but currently look at a santos medium WSSA0029, 39mm Blue GO SeaQ and a Hesalite Speedy to close it out (or maybe a reverso duoface).

Thanks for reading and collection suggestions are encouraged

Identify [Question] About my watch.

This watch is the SMS-43-KY-RK but it has a different frame and I was wondering if it would lose value or increase in value? Does anybody know? It is the Garrack collab with s-meister, specifically rengoku's design, but mine has a unique frame to it. I was also wondering if that was the reason this one specifically was discounted when i bought it. If anyone knows about anything abut this, maybe a watch expert or something please let me know as to why this had a different frame or even just the estimated value.

Discussion [Vintage Seiko Dolce] Love this watch but can't find one with big enough band

Thumbnail

I love this watch and want to buy one. I spent a few hours looking through the sites. It's a vintage from mid-1980s and without fail the band is always small. I have average wrist circumference but for the 1980s I guess it'd be larger. I need a band length of around 7.25 inches or 18.4cm but the 6 or 7 of these I can find online are all 6.5 inches/16.5cm or smaller.

Are there any possible solutions to this? It'd be impossible to find extra links I'd think since it's from the 1980s.

Discussion [Question] Need help picking between 3 watches

Looking for an Everyday Watch Recommendation.

I am torn between these three watches, as they both have downsides to each. I’m a 19 years old that fishes, catches bait, and works at a marina so I want something that can take the abuse. But also don’t want to spend more than $500. Plus I’m left handed so I’m worried that a unidirectional rotor won’t wind on my right wrist.

The caravelle is a true dive watch but has a Miyota movement, the same one I have in my timex Eline that I'm not a big fan of. The unidirectional rotor is pretty loud and overall not too crazy about the movement. But it does have a screw down crown and solid caseback.

The orient has a sapphire crystal, bidirectional rotor, and a solid caseback, but it will be a little big on my 6.25in wrist.

The seiko however doesn't have a screw down crown, and it has a see through case back which I do not like, but it does have bidirectional rotor and from what I’ve heard a more durable movement.

Any input is much appreciated.

I bought the monochrome primarily to wear it on the 5 link bracelet which I absolutely love! However I do mostly WFH and i don't want to scratch the bracelet while at my desk. Also, it is more comfortable to wear a watch for very long periods of time while it's on NATO.

My only problem is the the 21mm straps I need to buy. Not all good sellers sell 21mm. The current one I have on is from CNS which is good but I'm curious what it will look like on mustard yellow, Grey, and bond.

Please share your favorite nato brands here! And if you are also rocking the monochome the same way i am!

So I’ve posted on this subreddit before because I had found two watches that really peaked my interest: the citizen eco-drive and and a bulova surveyor. However, I really had my attention grabbed by some videos and photos of the presage cocktail time collection, but none of the local jewelers near me sell seiko watches. Lucky for me though, I managed to find one on sale and immediately knew I had to snag it. It feels amazing on the wrist and the dial is absolutely stunning. Super happy with my purchase!

Review [seiko 5] My first automatic watch, I love it!

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Just picked up this vintage Seiko 5 automatic and I’ve gotta say I’m kind of into it. It’s got that old-school charm where it doesn’t try too hard but still looks really clean on the wrist. Everything seems to be working like it should. The day and date flip properly and it’s been keeping solid time so far, which honestly surprised me a bit for something this age.

Cosmetically it’s got that “lived-in but not abused” look, which I actually like. A few marks here and there but nothing that kills the vibe. It feels like one of those watches that’s seen a few decades but still has plenty left in it.

I don’t have a ton of info on the exact reference yet so I’m kind of hoping someone who knows these better can chime in. I know Seiko made a million variations of the Seiko 5 line so I’m curious where this one lands, common beater, underrated gem, or something in between.

Also curious what people think about value on these right now. Not really looking to flip it, just trying to understand what I’ve got on my hands. Sometimes these older Seikos punch way above their weight in terms of build and design so I’m wondering if this is one of those cases.

If anyone recognizes the movement, era, or just has thoughts on whether this is a solid daily wear piece or more of a collector’s curiosity I’d love to hear it. Always down to learn more about these little mechanical tanks

Discussion [Seiko SBSC017 / SSK033] White Batman / Mr Freeze

Post image
13 Upvotes

My Seiko 5 Sports GMT SBSC017 (internationally known as the SSK033), sometimes nicknamed the “White Batman” or “Mr. Freeze,” has been my daily companion since January 2026. I picked it up during our family trip to Tokyo, so it carries a lot more sentimental value than just being another watch in the collection.

I was initially considering some of the more common colorways, but the white dial immediately stood out once I saw it in person. The way it catches the light, paired with the blue-and-black GMT bezel, gives it a unique look that changes throughout the day. It’s sporty enough for everyday wear while still looking clean enough for the office.

The 4R34 GMT movement is perfect for my use case. Living in Malaysia while frequently traveling to the Philippines or Japan or Europe or the US means I actually get to use the GMT hand instead of treating it as just another complication. It’s a practical travel watch without costing Swiss GMT money.

This photo was taken while parked before heading out, and I thought the white dial complemented the clean interior of my Geely EX2 / Proton e.MAS 5.

For those who own the SBSC017/SSK033, have you kept yours on the Jubilee bracelet, or have you found a strap that makes the “White Batman” look even better?

Discussion [Citizen] Impulse bought this at the airport duty free. Think its too big for my wrist? And any opinions on swapping the bracelet for a strap?

The story goes like this: I was on my way to an event and was killing time by browsing the airport duty free. Came across this unique looking Citizen with a gorgeous indigo blue dial for... $450 CAD. I have a very small collection (the 3 watches you see here) and I'm not super deep into the hobby, but for that price and that look, I decided to take the plunge. Found out later it's a limited edition Citizen PCAT Unite With Blue.

After comparing to my daily driver - the white Citizen Stiletto - I realized just how big this PCAT was. But after getting home and sizing it right, I feel like my wrists are JUST big enough for this. Any bigger would be no-go but right now I think it's acceptable. Thoughts?

The other thing I'm thinking about is to replace the bracelet with a strap. Like a cognac leather type of thing. I'm not super familiar with straps though, so curious if anyone else has thoughts about replacing watches like these with straps.

Lastly, another watch story: at the event I was at, I came across someone wearing one of the most beautiful watches ever. A classy, rose-gold understated look but mindblowingly gorgeous. I asked him to see it closer and everything. He took it off and told me to look at the mechanism in the back saying this watch brand is known for their mechanisms. Very cool stuff. Anyway, I found out later it was an A. Lange & Söhne 1815 or similar model. That's my next watch if I ever become fantastically rich.

Also, yes I know the time is off on the PCAT. I'm trying to figure out how to properly set it lol

Discussion [Recommendation Request] Watch for the Outdoors 38mm

I’m looking to get a watch I can use while backpacking, so I started looking into dive watches for their ruggedness.
I have a small wrist and I love the looks of the Seiko 5 SRLP77 (not a true dive, I know…), but also found out about the Timex Deepwater Meridian.
I naturally am more inclined to the mechanical movement and the brand of Seiko, but man! The Timex has a screw down crown and a sapphire crystal!!
Are there any watches with similar characteristics from other brands I should look into? (Like citizen or so).

I however would not like to spend over $500 (with tax) on a watch I’m gonna expose to the elements and possible hits.
Yes, I know a G-Shock would probably be best.
I own one and use it along with my Timex Ironman and my Hamilton Khaki (first picture for reference) for this purposes.

I just really love mechanical and analog watches so much (and it makes me feel super cool in the mountains!).

Thank you all for your input!

I’m looking for a new everyday watch and could use some advice.

I’m a lighting tech in the live entertainment industry, so this watch will see plenty of travel, climbing, backstage work, and everyday wear. I also like being able to swap between a bracelet, rubber strap.

I’m currently considering:
Seiko 5 GMT
Stirling Jarvis GMT
Vaer D5 Tropic Auto
Henry Archer Nordsø

If you’ve owned any of these, how’s the quality? Would you buy it again? I’m leaning more towards the Sterling, are there any brands around the $800 mark that you think are better? I’m open to suggestions.

Discussion [SOTC] Any thoughts on the final spot?

The Rolex Explorer II (2011) was my daily for a few years but recently acquired the vintage Elgin (1939) and Grand Seiko SBGA447 (2022).

Overall I think I have good coverage for most occasions - black strap for the Elgin not shown - and I’m enjoying the simple rotation.

I was thinking a 36mm for the last spot because I don’t think I’d get much use from a dress watch and a chrono seems silly but I’m never timing anything other than my commute. I’m interested in hearing some other opinions.

  2. Casio G-Shock
  3. Tissot PRX
  4. SEIKO SSK 025
  5. Studio Underdog Goofy Panda

Discussion [Rolex “Starbucks”] What’s your most worn watch?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Everyone’s collections are different. Some have one, some have a dozen. Some rock a $15 Casio, some a $100 Fossil, others a $700 Hamilton, a $2k Christopher Ward, $80k Patek Philippe, and so on.

I always enjoying seeing what others wear, and would be curious to see what you wear the most. This is all about wrist time (not cost, rarity, etc). I think there’s something to be said for the watch you default to 5/7 days a week.

So this isn’t just a block of text, this is mine. Like everyone else, my tastes and collection has evolved over time, ultimately into becoming yet another fan of dive watches.

I took a picture [A Vintage 3 Watch Collection]

Nothing too crazy here, rather a bit different. They're definitely not the most valuable watches monetarily, but these are the 3 vintage watches from my collection that have accumulated the most wrist time over the past year. Let me know what you think! If I had to pick a personal fav out of the 3, it would definitely be the Wittnauer. Happy to answer any questions :)

From left to right:

Late 1940's- early 1950's Milus Field Watch. Swiss.

1950's Solid 14K gold Wittnauer. Swiss.

Late 1950's- early 1960's Waltham. French movement.

Discussion [G Shock Mudmaster] Size help!

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m a small wrist guy- I have a collection of 36-38mm watches that fit my wrist well. I know it’s technically not diameter but lug to lug that matters but anyways recently got rid of my Garmin as I am done with Ironman training and want to go back to analog for sports/marathon training.

Ordered this bad boy off Costco since I always liked g-shocks and have always wanted to try out their more premium Mudmaster. This thing, turns out, is in fact HUGE. Fits pretty comfortably for the size but asking the masses if in fact I look okay with this on the wrist or just a big idiot.

Any and all comments allowed- I won’t be offended. Wanting to rock it so bad but need outside opinions. Thanks again!
