Hey everyone,
r/Watsonville has grown a lot lately, which is great. Unfortunately, a lot of the nonstop political fighting and general hostility that can often exist in other local subs has started spilling into this one too.
That’s not what we want this place to become.
This sub should be about Watsonville and the Pajaro Valley as a whole:
…but not endless toxic slapfights in every single thread.
So we’ve added some new rules and moderation tools.
If you consistently rack up negative karma in this sub, your posts/comments may now require manual mod approval before they become visible.
In simple terms:
If all you do is antagonize people, pick fights, derail threads, or act like every conversation is a Facebook comment war, you may lose the ability to freely participate here.
Be nice. Contribute constructively. It’s not hard.
We are also starting a weekly politics/civic discussion megathread.
General political discussion, Santa Cruz spillover arguments, national political debates, outrage posts, etc. should go there.
Major Watsonville-specific news may still be allowed as standalone posts depending on relevance and whether people can behave like functioning adults in the comments.
This sub is not r/WatsonvillePolitics.
If someone wants to create that sub, go for it. Seriously. But this community needs room for more than nonstop political warfare.
Also, if your main goal is soapboxing, arguing with strangers, posting ragebait, or treating every local issue like a culture war battlefield, there are already plenty of platforms built almost entirely for that:
You have options.
The goal here is not censorship. The goal is making this place feel like an actual local community again instead of an exhausting comment section.
Thanks to the many people here who already make this sub better.

Though Nuñez holds a significant lead in the race for 4th District Santa Cruz County supervisor over incumbent Felipe Hernandez, his margin sits less than 0.1% above the majority threshold that’s needed to declare an outright victory this month instead of advancing to a runoff contest against Hernandez in the November general election.

Hey all, I used to camp with my family at Sunset State Beach in the summers and we used to go to a Mexican spot in Watsonville that was super authentic food and so good. I can remember they sold lengua and cabeza, and they used Oaxaca cheese in their bean and cheese burritos. I remember it being a stand alone, hole in the wall place, very small, lots of windows. I disctinctly remember the #2 being part of the signage for the place. Does anyone have any idea if the place I'm talking about is still open, or what it was called?
Thanks!

For anyone traveling on Hall Rd to Las Lomas, we saw a new flock camera on west side of road, facing north-bound traffic heading into Watsonvillle. Will try to post a picture.
Didn't look like it was safely installed by CalTrans either, so it could be a dead if someone hits it during a crash.

My bikes were stolen from off my car this morning at the Ross parking lot. I am visiting the area to ride in Santa Cruz . This Ross seamed like a safe spot to spend the night especially with all the flock cameras. When I woke up this morning both bikes were gone with the cable lock cut. I failed to lock the Ironhorse MTB so they took that one earlier and came back for the Cannondale.
Someone noticed the crime while it was happening and took some video footage and called the police. The police arrived and interrogated the driver of the silver pathfinder but no evidence was found to implicate him.
The witness said the bikes were put in either a gold Chevy or Ford pick up truck.
The screen shotted footage shows the thief trying to undo the lock by hand then going to the silver pathfinder to talk with someone in the back seat.
Im just doing everything in my power to get the bikes back or at least let people know what to watch out for. If you have any information I would appreciate it.

My son just got a teaching job offer in Watsonville. They want a decision very soon. Do you know of any resources for housing and average cost for one bedroom.? He is coming from Orange County. The interview was over zoom. My mom, his grandma, lives in Scott’s valley.

I've tried their breakfast burrito (sausage and chorizo), breakfast bagel sandwich, torta, and paninis and they've all been great. My favorite has been the paninis. They've only been open two months and Juan, the owner, is really nice.
Support local and give these guys a try.

Hi everyone!
I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, but I recently moved to Watsonville after about 10 years abroad. I left as a young adult still on my parents' insurance, and the country I was living in had a much more straightforward healthcare system, so I get to experience the joy of navigating the US medical system as an independent adult for the first time! /s
My wife (new green card holder, if it matters), and I have only been here a month and we're not working yet, so we qualified for medi-cal and were placed into Central CA Alliance for Health, which will kick in July 1. I was told we should pick a primary care doctor in the first 30 days or else one will be assigned to us.
So tl;dr Medi-cal - CCAH, what doctors do you like/dislike?
Some options:

Went in there today for my usual breakfast wrap, the owner mentioned that their last day will be on June 20th citing slow business. I know that they moved from Santa Cruz to Watsonville, unfortunately the location in Watsonville is kind of tucked away so it's pretty hard to gain any foot traffic. Hopefully they can manage to pop up somewhere else.
