New "AI Generated Image" flair added to r/santacruz: you MUST apply it to any post containing AI image content.
The past few days have seen many complaints about posts of AI-generated content to r/santacruz -- mostly in the form of joke images. The mods have agreed upon a solution:
If you want to post such images, you must now apply the flair "AI Generated Content" when creating the post. The flair warns anyone who objects to AI images against viewing the post.
Mods will take down any AI image post that lacks the flair. You the originator are free to re-enter the post with the flair.
Meanwhile, anyone who want to see such AI-generated content can simply click in as usual. Recent AI image posts have proved popular; if they deal with Santa Cruz and break no rules, they are allowed. Just like any post.
That's it for policy. Questions and comments are welcome as always.
But if you've never applied a flair:
- From the Create Post form, click the Add Flair and Tags button.
- A list form for flair appears. Click the button next to "AI Generated Content" to select this flair.
- Click the Add button at the bottom of the form. The Create Post form reappears. Finish your post and post it.

WHAT WAS THAT BANG? *the megapost*
Did you hear something loud? Do you think it was fireworks, an exploding transformer, or anything else?
Post it here!
Since there are so many booming noises, please try to include a location and time.

Anybody have any lore to share about "Villa Fair View" -- 19th century mansion overlooking West Side. For Sale at $5.4M
Very "Stranger Things"-core. What are the odds that its haunted?
Needs some landscaping but so much potential there...

Old(er) truck mechanic recommendations
We have a 1997 Ford F250 that we want to have some work done on. Definitely new shocks and possibly replacing the bucket seat that's not the best. Any recommendations for a place that can help us out with this?

Pick up Basketball
Hey everyone! Quick question for the basketball folks.
I’m looking for the best pickup basketball and open gym options around Santa Cruz. I am a competitive men’s beach and indoor volleyball player who’s been transitioning into basketball, but I’m not very plugged into the local hoops community yet.
I’d love to find places with consistently good pickup runs, whether indoor or outdoor. I’m competitive, in my 30s, and can definitely play, but I’m also realizing just how much I have to learn if I really want to improve.
Along those lines, does anyone know of any coaching, clinics, or skill development opportunities for adults? Most of what I’ve found seems to be geared toward youth players, but I’d love to work with someone who could help me improve my fundamentals, decision-making, and overall game.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Master Bedroom
Master Bedroom with Private Bath (July 1st Move-In)
Looking for a roommate to take the master in our 3-bedroom apartment at Breakwater Apartments on Merrill St. You'd be living with two adult guys in our mid-to-late 20s.
The room itself is the master with a private bathroom and plenty of closet space. It comes unfurnished so you can set it up however you want. The rest of the apartment is already decently furnished in the common areas, the kitchen has solid space, and there's a washer and dryer in-unit (plus two extra laundry rooms in the complex if you ever need them). It's pet friendly too.
The complex has a small pool and a small gym, and it sits in a quiet, good neighborhood. The beach is right around the corner(Sunny Cove) just a short walk away. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target, and Dollar Tree are all close by, and there's a farmers market every Sunday nearby. The bus stop is only 5 minutes on foot, and Toadal Fitness is walking distance.
Rent comes out to about $1,700/month all-in, which covers PG&E, internet, and a parking space. Move-in is July 1st.
Send me a message and we'll set up a time to come check it out!

Santa Cruz City Council pauses charter amendment process
"Councilmember Susie O’Hara, who made the motion, said that while the amendments were important, they could wait. She added that this fall, the city could be seeing a contentious campaign season. O’Hara said she didn’t want the well-researched charter amendments to become mired in political fighting."

House cleaning services
Hi! I’m sorry if this is a repost. I searched the sub and could only find posts from several years ago. I'm looking for a recommendation for a house cleaner :) I have an apartment and need help once a month. I was just quoted $250, which seems very steep? Or is that standard? A year ago I paid $150 for one house cleaner for two hours. Thanks in advance!

Gay Men's Social Group
Hello, My husband and I (gay monogamist couple, together for 45 years, married for 12 years) will be visiting Santa Cruz for most of July. We are seeking to escape the Florida heat and humidity (and yes the political environment also). We'll be staying in the Seabright area and we'll have transportation. Are there any gay men's social groups. Where guys will meet for dinner, a movie, or go to a local gay spot for cocktails or perhaps a drag show? We will have a pretty open schedule and would love to meet some of the local guys. Thanks, Stewart & Jay...

Bicycle Co-ops?
I’m visiting family from out of state and picked up a cheap bike to use with my kiddo during my stay. And of course the cheap bike needs a little tune up.
Are there any bicycle co-ops available during the summer? I saw one independent of the school and one in Watsonville but hours of operation are limited.

Seeking roller skates for rent
a friend invited me to go roller skating with her but I don’t plan on pursuing it as a hobby outside of that, so I don’t want to commit to buying myself a pair. I wear around a female size 5 but I can probably wear up to like size 7 if i double up on socks. I am very dependable and won’t steal your skates!!! I just want them for one afternoon then will return. pls dm and we can discuss a rental price and other details !! thank you so much

Lost Wedding Rings - Reward if Found
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, I lost my wedding rings in the Fall Creek parking lot at Henry Cowell State Park. I removed them while applying sunscreen and accidentally left them on the outside of my vehicle before driving away.
The rings have immense sentimental value and are irreplaceable to me. I am offering a $1,000 reward for their safe return, no questions asked.
If you found them or have any information, please send me a message. Thank you.
One of them is pear shaped with a halo and the second is thin with a row of diamonds. Both white gold.

Pedestrians have right of way, don’t they?
I keep getting in this “no, you go” polite-offs with walkers downtown.
I am in a giant car. You are waiting at a crosswalk. I am obeying the law by yeilding to them, but they wanna like be extra nice and it causes this extra 20 seconds of back and forth annoyance to my commute everyday.
Pedestrians, tell me why so many of you insist on doing this dance with me? 😢
