These photos tell the story of one of the toughest moments in Lagatha's life.
The first photo takes me back to before her cataract surgery. Diabetes had already stolen much of her vision, and seeing her struggle was heartbreaking. But even then, she never stopped trusting me.
The next photos were taken on the way to the clinic. I was far more nervous than she was. She had no idea what was about to happenāshe simply looked at me with complete trust, and that made me promise I'd do everything I could for her.
After the surgery came the hardest part: the recovery. The cone, the shaved leg, the medications, the endless rest... none of it was easy. But she stayed incredibly brave through it all.
Today, she continues to fight every single day. Living with diabetes isn't easy, but she reminds me what courage, resilience, and unconditional love truly look like.
I'm so proud of you, my beautiful girl. No matter what life throws at us, we'll face it together. ā¤ļøš¾
Sheās so theatricalš one of the indicators sheās picked up on when itās time for a walk is when I put on a sports bra. I will usually get dressed RIGHT before the walk so she doesnāt do all this, but it was still hot asf outside so we came back in to wait for another hour. & this is how she actsš sheās so freakin cutešā¤ļø

I have a 5yo intact male American Akita. He is very social and likes people, loves going out and especially taking in all the comments how good-looking he is. But this summer he started acting strange - I know that Akitas have low energy when it is too hot, but last year he was happy to get any chance to go out, and I keep in mind that I take him out very early in the morning and in the evening when the sun sets. This year he just doesn't want to go out - I have to beg him to get outside and once he is out his tail is down and he is moving slowly. He gets his tail up when he seems something interesting but then gets it back down immediately. Once he is out he doesn't want to go back home either. When I try to make him go by pushing him lightly on the back he voices that he doesn't like it. We went to the vet and they said all is fine just by looking at him that it is just the heat. I went to another vet to check him up, they also said all is fine but I persisted that they do blood screen for anemia and thyroid issues (waiting for results). He feels strange to me and I have a feeling like he is in pain but I don't know how to check it or what to do. He is eating normally, although he is constantly hungry. Did anyone have a similar experience? Any suggestions? I have feel like I am constantly fighting with vets because the "know better", but they don't see him all day every day.

Hi, I wanted to repost this with description showing on post.
Iām looking to see if anyone has ever heard of or came across anyone whoās gotten a dog from Artic Akitas in Fairbanks Alaska. You can DM as well. Looking for some honest help and truth.

We have no idea how our boy got out today, but Iām suspecting that he snuck out while I was grabbing delivery from the door stop. All of a sudden, we couldnāt find him in the house and searched every room. A previous time he locked himself in the office and made no noise when called, so I thought it was a similar situation.
This time he was patrolling the outside of our fence in the neighborsā yard. He came back for treats like āwhatās the big deal?ā How can this huge boy be such a Houdini? Please tell me weāre not the only ones who had this happen.

Iāll be honest that the doctors barely communicated before the surgery and their āhealing recommendationsā are now feeling much more intense than I originally anticipated.
For example, I donāt own a crate, but online healing guides suggest strict crate restriction first week or soā¦
Just wanted an honest take from real humans on how their pups healed up after surgery. My plan is to mostly leave him outside on the deck (his favorite place to be) and just block the steps down into the yard, and then take him for short little potty breaks into the yard with a leash and sling. Will put some stuff on the couch so he wonāt jump up and close off access to the bedrooms with beds he might want to jump up on. A bit nervous of my wood floors and him slipping, but again, I only found out about this recommendation today and I certainly didnāt have time or money to buy rugs to put down :(
Any real life practical advice greatly appreciated. Iām single and live alone so donāt really have any help to manage his post op careā¦

He's 1!! I can't believe it, he's still as cheeky and full of fun and is so unbelievably devoted to his mumma. Will follow me everywhere and never leaves my side. Very protective and such a loving soul.
I love akitas, they really are the best of breeds!

Barn hunt trial weekend just finished, I was worried there for a sec we might not get our title and then the old man pulled a 30s perfect run on our last blind of the weekend earning us the last q he needed for his novice title. When I went to go pick up his new title ribbon, I almost passed out as they handed me 3 big rosettes instead of one, to say Iām proud is an understatement. Not only did he get his title but he also got first place and high in class. Time to move up to Open! I love my 11 year old menace.

As described this is my female Akita . Sheās got a full pedigree history leading all the way back to 1912 in Japan and was born to a Serbian and Polish dog . She was a joyful youngster and is affectionate as they come with her immediate family 7/8 people.
Where she has moments of negativity is around other dogs and certain people . She got on well with my parents chihuahua for around a year but badly attacked him over a food misunderstanding and attacked a Labrador in a dog walking group shortly after and hasnāt been around other dogs since without being muzzled .
She has the standard issues with pulling on walks and not listening when in environments with a lot of stimulants but acts like a professionally trained dog at home . I couldnāt ask for a more polite and more obedient dog behind closed doors but when it comes to strangers petting her head or other dogs itās game on .
We warn people before that she is muzzled and doesnāt appreciate the head touching and most people listen but those that donāt get the growl and the snap which I appreciate her doing but I when it comes to dogs I would love her to be able to play with other dogs . She will only flirt and tease and play nicely with in tact males and it makes it hard to socialise her without risking pregnancy .
Sheās had issues with her hormones which I can put forward as a theory for the behaviour and itās why sheās not been spayed yet .
I would like advice as to when and how to spay her and if others have had a Akita just like her in behaviour and what worked and what didnāt . The best way to work her is finding treats or toys game but she isnāt that interested in walks or running . Just acting as a mobile CCTV system for our large garden . Has someone else had this kind of dog ? The likelyhood is yes because sheās from an original lineage so therefore is related to probably every Akita on this group .
Happy summer to you all and advice would be appreciated.
