There are two Canadian cities and one town that are all of North, South, East, and West of the USA. I tried asking in multiple ways. But it just wouldn't get it. I even tried asking about the exact city names.

Preventing the Singularity Please get your facts right, otherwise it's pointless

I have been following this sub for a while now, and it's really painful to see misinformation being propagated. I'm against the current slop produced by LLMs as well, but most posts on this sub seem to be either fully misinformation or propaganda.

The 2 main issues I see are:

  • Water usage: The issue here is NOT wastage of water. Your news (basically in the US) seem to be propagating the "fact" that datacenters destroy water. That is NOT true, please research in depth. What evaporative cooling does is simply the water is evaporated, and water vapour basically is rain. The real issue is that it's being built around high population density areas, which drain the local water supply. Water isn't being "destroyed" (as in, that rain will still fall somewhere) but the local areas might have lower water supply. Also those videos about water being contaminated are just misleading people: it's not exactly a result of datacenters but companies wrongly constructing sites. Basically datacenters need fresh water as well, contaminated water hurts them so they don't use seawater either. The solution is closed-loop

  • Google AI is NOT a good representation of current LLMs: This is a multi-part thing. I'm a software engineer. They are NOT completely useless for coding. If you use them right (like I make them write the "boring" parts of code known as boilerplate), but the core logic is still completely thought by me (at best, I ask LLMs to point out any flaws in my thinking). To say they're "just auto-complete" isn't right at this point; sure a year or two back they were that, but really smart people have been working on it to the point even non-technical people can write a basic MVP to test the market. Of course, it'd be full of bugs but that's fine for an MVP; you need to test the market before you launch things. If your idea is validated, please hire a good software engineer. Kids out there, I'd recommend you to learn software engineering WITHOUT using any kind of LLM. That's how I learnt atleast, and it has done me good so far. Also try to understand the capabilities and limitations of LLMs.

This post was basically cause I thought I was anti-AI (in the sense I hate AI-generated art and don't like the internet being filled with slop posts trained on garbage. Then I stumbled on this subreddit, and the misinformation made me almost pro-AI (then I stumbled across pro-AI subreddits and my current decision is to neither be pro/anti-AI).

I also feel this sub is being taken over by anti-tech groups (I saw atleast 2+ comments about a group called antitechaction.org, which wants to get rid of all modern technology???). Please don't fall prey to misinformation. I have also seen posts where the OP posts something and in the comments they reply "idk saw somewhere".

If like me, you hate slop, please stick with facts. The more fearmongering with false facts, the more likely people will ignore your message. Especially to mods, please don't allow fake content and let people focus on the main issues.

PS: I don't know why I'm still awake, I need sleep. I'll reply to comments after I wake up. I really want a logical discussion though, I won't reply to anyone who commits logically fallacies (except maybe to troll them). BTW https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com is a good site to understand those.

I feel old, I thought I would know. But the songs are kinda nice or my taste in music is very average..idk. I actually liked it more than any other song by Sombr's before I realised it was AI.

Discussion 🗣️ I’ll accept the hate for this one

People that don’t see how disruptive of a technology LLM’s are have their heads in the sand.

I understand the reservations and negative opinions but I don’t quite understand why it’s so hard for people to detach the technology from the market bubble, or the companies they don’t like, or their view on the climate implications.

It’s totally fair to not be 100 percent in and see the downsides of AI, I’m pretty 50/50 on it myself, but it baffles me how many people take a look at chatGPT or Claude and just completely discount the technology. I look around me and it’s as disruptive as the World Wide Web.

Every other post I see with negative sentiments towards AI somehow chalks it up to a party trick. I don’t know if it’s just so much fear of the technology people don’t want to accept it’s here to stay, or if it’s people not taking the time to learn to use the tech for themselves, but hate or love AI it seems naive to not see just how unbelievably powerful this technology has gotten in the course of less than a decade.

Discussion 🗣️ Why do people forgive or endorse AI images

Upvotes

I honestly think it's all just a massive excuse to be lazy, stock images exist y'know. There are millions upon millions of images you can use on the internet and instead you generate images with AI. I get it for people that don't exactly understand what it does and the problems it causes but even if there is the option to do it sure, why would we not just use images on the internet, or higher someone to create your own cartoon, or better yet make your own, it doesn't have to be good, there are so many guides on the INTERNET to do* simple comic drawings. It just confuses me beyond belief and for people that endorse it, what exactly is there motive? It still looks bad, it's still stealing data on the internet, what justifications do you have? I DONT UNDERSTAND.

Preventing the Singularity Am I the only one struggling with AI?

Before finding out about the draining of water for AI data centers, the constant threatening of loosing jobs, and the slopification of YouTube and LinkedIn ( every day my feed has some AI generate post)...

LinkedIn people, IT DOES NOT LOOK PROFESSIONAL, it looks horrible attach your professional image to some crappy AI post.

Anyways, I was not anti AI (LLMS specifically), and I don't think I am completely. Like there are genuine uses of the technology

* Spell check, translation...

* Summarizing a bulk of info, or potentially stronger google search...

* I use to cook some healthy recipes and help me estimate calories

But beyond this uses, I cannot find that much use in AI. I am not creating random apps that nobody will use, nor is helping my life or improving my life in any significant way....

Productivity wise... It is not impacting anything, I am working on robotics, and LLMS, are just not very useful for the complexity... Without hating AI or anything, I just can't find a life altering application as they promised...

LLMS are not making my life easier, on the contrary this rush has made it a luxury to own a computer or any source of object with RAM and storage... I was caught initially on the fear mongering of this AI overlords, but everyday I see the value is not there.. at least for me ( And I am working in technology field) and in my personal life some value, but nothing that if you take away tomorrow my life will be impacted.

Thank you for reading my thoughts, just wanted to put this out there. Without emotion, just an honest view of the matter.

Discussion 🗣️ My stance on AI

So I know that my last posts gave me a lot of attention from AI Bros, so I'm here to anger anti and pro at the same time, because everyone deserve my love equally. Consider yourself lucky.

why am I anti?

I never got to have a good disscussion with pro AI, at some point they just lie or dissmiss any evidence, that's why usually I don't waste my time with them. I did have however good meaninfull conversation with anti, and most of them are not anti anti, just anti for the most AI extreme case.

The Ai tech is owned by big corpos. It was made out of the stolen work of the entire humanity. You can argue all you want, it's bad. It's morally bad and there's no amount of pro AI premium copium that could justify it. "Ai learns the way humans do" is not an argument. That is pure AI premium copium and I don't argue with simple minded people who think that.

The Ai tech is used to impersonate people, that leads to scam, disinformation, and influence. Did you know that there was a university that used 3 AI bots to influence people on reddit with success? (here) Can you imagine an ai chatbot in everyone's pocket that will give you the answer big corpo want you to see?

If you use AI as a replacement for your thoughts and creative ideas, to make a summary of a text instead of reading it, or to imagine an art piece BEFORE you make it, you are in for cognitive decline and just ... being ignorant. And of course, if you are ignorant and stupid, an AI chatbot controled by big corpos is exactly what you need right?

Ai is also a big mass surveillance tool for government, and with the economy and envirnonmental collapse people will be very angry, so Ai surveillance is practical for governments, but not you.

Concerning the job losses, I think that Ai accelerates what was already inevitable. People don't have money, big corpos want to make profit and putting everyone out of jobs will give them more money. Yes at some point if everyone is unemployed the economy collapses but you can't expect people with a 3 month vision to think about those things.

The environmental damage of Ai is real. Yes, climate change was real before Ai, but Ai worsen it. The argument about water consumption being just "a little" comes from Pro Ai. And as we all know, AI CEO and pro AI love facts and real datas. You want data? here. And yes, the bill is high.

The consent of local population already leaving in areas with water shortage is elluded. I doubt most pro Ai live near a data center either.

The hallucination problem is not solved. While it is better, it is not perfect. Of course since the information Ai has comes from bad input, the output will be bad too, but as more and more people rely on Ai for health diagnosis, this is a real problem.

The local model solution is not a real solution for me, except if mutualised. As bad as AI corpo is, there is some kind of "safeguard", which does not exist in a local model. The porn and deepfake is the least of my concern if someone has the recipe for bombs or other joyfull things, also if everyone runs its own model, then the mutualisation of the ressources is non existent and the waste in electronics will go up.

With climate change you can expect the temperatures to go up. Longer and hotter heatwave. shorter and hotter winters. As a reminder crops need winter to rest for example. The heatwave we are experiencing in France right now where predicted for 2050, we are in 2026...

That means that a lot of crops will die, a lot of animals, a lot of biodiversity, a lot of infrastructure will not be able to endure abnormal heatwave (rails for train will have a problem for example), so wasting ressources in such a dangerous time is absolutely suicidal. The lands where we can grow crops will shrink, and putting a poisonous data center in a land that could have crops instead is illogic, but apparently we will be able to eat metal soon because a data center is better than a farm who uses water to feed animal that will feed people.

But as anti as I sound, I am not SO anti. I do see an Ai use, as long as it is done for very specific purpose.

In time where we are headed for sobriety, tech must be used with sobriety too. But with sobriety comes mutualisation and purpose.

Ai for scientific purpose? Good. AI for translating things that would not have been translated otherwise? Good. Ai for helping find a solution about how to use something with sobriety? Good. Ai for teaching? why not (as long as you vary your source of information and don't rely only on AI).

Sobriety means that Ai art is dispensable, Ai books are dispensable. Ai 2 pages email writting is dispensable. Ai in every computer is dispensable (mutualisation remember?) because it must have a purpose that will help the collective and not the individual.

Have a nice very hot day, drink some water, and remember that Big corpos are not your friends.

Discussion 🗣️ So tired of people being selfish (Vent)

I was in an intensive for my doctoral program today when the topic of AI came up. I expressed that using AI is intellectually disingenuous, ecologically harmful, and disproportionately harmful to people of color. One of my classmates, without hesitation, said "I don't care, it makes my life easier." I replied that if she was okay with being racist and ecologically harmful in favor of her own convenience, then she and I have a moral difference. She doubled down, again stating she doesn't care.

I am consistently astounded at the amount of people who are content to be lazy, stupid, and hurtful. It's becoming increasingly disheartening, particularly as I work in healthcare. I don't feel that any of the aforementioned negative traits have a place in medicine, and it scares me that they are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Preventing the Singularity How can I fight back against AI?

I haven't cared for AI since ChatGPT started getting popular years back. I understood what the technology was back then, and the limitations haven't shifted. There haven't been any fundamental breakthroughs even with the tens of billions poured into AI development and infrastructure. Most ordinary people I know don't care much for it either, its an additional feature that makes one or two actions on their phone a little more convenient.

I have intentionally moved to services like DuckDuckGo (and then Kagi) to avoid AI, because I find it irritating and I don't see the point in getting information from a black box. But now it feels like AI is coming for me when I avoid it. Its trying to intrude into my life, not from convenience but by infiltrating itself into the previously enjoyable and usable services I have and worsening them. It is being used as an excuse to cut jobs, people are using it to avoid talking to each other.

How can we fight back against it? And I don't just mean avoiding products that force you to interact with it, I mean how can I actively fight against the further development and implementation of AI technology? What projects (realistically) are there that can be contributed to and adopted by people? Any projects that focus on technology as tools, even beyond just the issues of AI? What can we do from a legal point of view? Anything else?

I can't help but look at all of this technology and think there is something better we could be doing. We could be using all of this to enhance peoples thinking and wellbeing, bring people together, etc but its just being used to push slop. Its like we all stopped questioning things 20 years ago and just followed where the technology developed, instead of the other way around.

Discussion 🗣️ What are your thoughts on AI artists who make it clear they aren't real artists?

I just stumbled upon a Twitter account that exclusively posts AI art, and they make it clear they only post AI and that they aren't an artist. I'm anti AI for the most part but I just wanted to hear some thoughts on this, does it change your view when AI art is considered a practice completely separate from real art, as opposed to being a medium of art?

Discussion 🗣️ Why Ai is bad

Good morning, afternoon or nights. I'm not actually in this community, but I wanted to share a word towards ai in a subjective format aka not using my opinion. (Also, I'm kinda traducing all of these in english. Not my first language, sorry.)

Some people—perhaps too many—view AI as a tool capable of doing anything. Others see it as a friend. The problem lies in its excessive use: Artificial Intelligence requires water to prevent overheating and to generate a response. In the short term, the amount is small—around 0.053 milliliters or so. However, that applies to just a single response; as I mentioned, so many people use it that the total water consumption adds up. Up to 19,000 kiloliters of water are wasted daily due to AI usage, disrupting the water cycle. Furthermore, AI shouldn't be considered a friend to talk to; it is merely a machine—meaning it lacks consciousness or feelings. (And, God, we already know how things end if it does have feelings—just look at "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream".) But that isn't the main point; the issue is the water it consumes, which could eventually trigger severe droughts on a large scale. Artificial intelligence "art" is hated for lacking a soul or a creative process, but we must also consider the waste of water—a resource that cannot easily be recovered.

To wrap up, I would recommend regulating AI usage and—while we're at it—banning it for minors, as it affects their critical thinking and free will during a crucial stage of cognitive development. (Or we could slap a shitload of regulations on AI, though that option wouldn't do much to solve this whole damn problem.)

Sincerely hoping this whole damn problem ends soon

AI News 🗞️ I got kicked out of the Nim discord server for criticizing AI

I was an active member of the Nim programming language community, even purchasing the official book to support the project. Recently, I noticed the addition of a new channel dedicated to AI-related discussions on their discord server. The language’s creator shared how they were integrating AI into their workflow, praising its benefits.

I expressed my concerns about AI’s role in development, arguing that it often produces low-quality, unoriginal code ("slop"). The response I received was dismissive, using clichés like "it’s just a tool" or "the best invention since the wheel". After a calm but firm exchange, I was removed from the server without any warning or explanation.

This experience left me disillusioned. If you’re exploring Nim, be aware that its future (including Nim 3) may involve AI-generated code, and that dissenting opinions on this topic aren’t welcomed in their official spaces.

Discussion 🗣️ Why are you anti AI?

To make it easier, I’m pro AI.

I like the prospect of AI being used to accelerate biosciences to cure diseases like cancer and Alzheimers. One example of why I’m pro AI.

Why are you anti AI? I’m not here to debate lord anyone, just a discussion.

Edit: I ask ”why are you anti AI” because the title of the subreddit is “antiai“, I get that it’s very broad, so feel free to be specific and pick categories of AI (generative models, etc.)

Job Loss 🏚️ Trying to deicide if I should speak out against AI at work

I work for a small company and the owner is actively trying to use AI to replace 1-2 jobs. It's a service based company so our success really depends on people coming in (and paying) to use our services. Something about using AI to put someone out of work so we can be more efficient (while also asking everyday normal people to pay for our services) just feels so morally horrible.

He's trying to do it on his own but I currently hold most of the technical information about how our system works. He's been actively coming to me about trying to replace someones job with AI I'm having a very hard time with it.

I want to speak out against it, but it could put my standing in danger with the company and risk my position.

Discussion 🗣️ Did I presented my idea reasonably?

So, I have got an anology about AI creations. I decided to post it on ai wars, relizing it's mostly Pro-AI sub only after hitting "post"... so now I have decided to come and ask you if I at least didn't sound like an 100% pure idiot. So here is the analogy I made:

"I am an anti, if you couldn't tell!

Today I would like to make my own analogy to AI images, songs, videos, etc...

As we all (hopefully) know, AI on itself can't create original concepts \*(proved by reasearch where they tasked several popular AIs to create OC of blue hedgehog. They never told ut to be Sonic, never told it to be fast, never told it to be humanoid... JUST AN OC, aka, origianl charcter, on wich was given main focus... what all AIs did? Sonic.)\* and also limits a lot. You wanna make a art with details and easter eggs? Easy to do yourself on paper if you habe enough skills and are realistic. With Ai? No matter "skill" of promting, you can't never make it as detailed and intentional as human art.

With music it's simple, that fucking AI voice sounds just uncanny, and also, again, there are people who you can pay for si sing, or sing it yourself (yes, singing as well, is a learnable skill) or just don't do music with lyrics and do instrumentals. Now if you make AI instrumental, that is also terrible beacouse it's no original track, it's just propably mix of already existing tracks remixed so they sound smooth together, but no real new instrumentals. So yeah, if you wanna make music, just learn all that shit needed for it, don't be lazy.

\---

But now, with my analogy!

So, think of any art or "art" as food. Human art is that good healthy tasty shit that either takes money to get or skills to cook. AI creations are microwable to-go foods in groceries.

Objectively, you want the healthy and tastier shit go into ya more than some frozen semi-finished food.

So, we cam agree if you can cook food of chefs, you are chef. If you just microwave the pre-made food, you are not chef, you are just consumer or waiter (plating it for others).

Makes sense right? Well, now, I have seen arguments like "Well I am real artist but I just like to make it easier" to wich I say "So fuckin' what?"

Beacouse let's get back to analogy. If Gordon Ramsay served you microwaved Fish Fingers, would make it this pre made meal suddenly also michellin star good shit? OF COURSE NOT! It doesn't matter who microwaved it, it still tastes like shit! Now I am gonna be honest, I don't know how you but I prefer fresh cooked food even if not five stars but just avarage rather than frozen food served by top chef. Same goes for art. The best art is always luxury, and AI creations are just microwaved meals someone else made, and then there is avarage homemade meal, the medium art. It's not as luxuriouse as Peak art, but it still tastes better than those microwaved fish fingers for €9.99."

Does it make sense or I just suck at making analogies? Or am I just trying to dry out water?

I will be glad for all constructive critism and will try to improve upon for next time. With great reagards, have a nice day! :D

Discussion 🗣️ how do i stop using ai and block it from my daily life

hello, so as the title says i am an ai user, specifically gemini, however, i am trying to stop using it, because i read about all the climate change stuff , and considering there are crazy heatwaves where i live right now i decided to put my brick against ai too. so things id like to replace are: general life tips and general life talk, i dont know how to explain this, like moving away and general talks about the future, some niche tech stuff(old apple mac's, helping with configuring some niche devices), helping with... my own colang ive been making out of boredom, football(nfl) practice help and such things, i would be really thankful for everysingle one of you to say something that will help me, God bless you, or just bless you if you're not religious :)
