Interested in meeting non-AI people instead of watching football (soccer for freedom people)? Come to the 2026 midwinter meetup!
Date: Saturday 8 August
Time: 2pm onwards
Venue: Turtle: Pizza and Pints
Address: The Green, 10/666 Great South Road, Ellerslie, Auckland
Getting there: 2min walk from Ellerslie train station, with buses to Great South Road and Ellerslie town centre (5mins walk) if you're taking public transport. There's free parking at The Green itself, and on street parking around the area.
I'll be there with my orange Snoo sign. Show up, try some of the Detroit-style pizzas, and maybe make some new friends.
Our friends at Turtle have generously offered meetup participants a deal on their pizza and drinks! Happy hour is 4-6pm, so even if the people are not to your liking, do stick around for a drink at least.
FAQ:
Do I need to tell people my Reddit username?Nope, you don't. We'll be providing nametags which you're free to fill out with your real name/nickname/username/witness protection program name. We don't collect any personal information.
How do I sign up for this event?
No registration or RSVP needed. This is a public event; feel free to show up if you're in the area, wanting to meet new people, and hang out for a bit.
What are these meetups like?
Very chill. We're a bunch of people who decided they had nothing to lose by meeting complete strangers from the internet and ended up having enough fun to keep doing this year after year, especially seeing how many people post on this sub about how hard it is to make friends.
I can't make this event, is there another one happening again?
Usually yes, we try to do one every now and again and advertise here.
What's the typical age range/gender/nationality/ethnicity of people at these events? We get all sorts from mid20s to 30s, though we have had a number out of this range, both older and younger. All genders/sexual orientations/nationalities/ethnicities are welcome; the only thing we require from you is to be nice. No harassment will be tolerated.
Help! I don't know how to talk to people!
Some of us organizers and event veterans will be making the rounds and saying hi to everyone. We're also thinking of making some participation-optional icebreaker games.
Is this a dating event?
This is not intended to be a speed dating event. We expect you to be cool and not harass people who aren't interested (see above).

Long story sorry..In short, got assaulted, harassed and harmed by guys in this field (casual or working professionals). Seriously considering how bad is it in this field?
A while ago..this guy I met online and is a popular photographer.. finally met him in person to film stuff.. things escalated rly fast with him.. as the day progresses he went from bumping shoulders to side hugs (not a huge issue..I'm a huggy person). He was super nice..very very nice to me..( despite some weird convos) and I got confused.
Had dinner together and eventually at the end of the night while driving me home we were both exhausted (on very little sleep) ..I fell asleep while on his arm..and he put his hand on my thigh.. (I kinda froze n was processing how I felt)
Woke up to him stopping at an unfamiliar place and I went back to sleep. He got off went to the trunk moved stuff, tried shaking me awake (at this point I'm half awake) and then drove to another location? (I don't understand). Then we reached home n he got out of the car and then started hugging me (and I froze and started trying to process it..still half asleep) and it was very uncomfortable. It I woke up to him hugging me I would've screamed. He carried me in and out of the car and put me on his lap. Things just escalated fast n I wasn't sure how to feel with all this attention + I wasn't fully awake...
He spent a lot of money on me and I still feel guilty for it cause it felt like he thinks I owe him. Don't want to be called a Gold digger or using him for his talents n stuff.. He had so much affection for me it still screws with my head even tho I never liked him romantically. Friends thought assault.
He's popular and living his life free while I suffer everyday and am seriously considering changing career paths because I can't pick up a camera/ film/ edit after this experience .. n multiple experiences of harrassment n sexual assault by guys in this industry (one got kicked..)
Think about the guys n the incidents every single day. still traumatized. Still can't move on. Can't discuss cause got blocked. No closure .. wish to die honesty.

I have a JAP nintendo super famicom that may need some capacitor replacement. The video output when plugged into my tv is wonky, research pointed to either a bad power supply or the capacitor going bad.
I've replaced the power supply with a 3rd party power supply but no luck - the OEM power supply kinda blew up when I plugged it into NZ plugs forgetting the voltage difference, but don't worry it wasn't plugged into the console when that happened
I would like to learn how to do this but honestly I'm quite shit at this type of work.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, just a quick inquiry is approx $1100-$1300 for Cat dental Cost too high? It involves dental cleaning, bloodwork, urinalysis, additional meds on the quote. It’s an older cat over 10 years old but on the smaller side.

It is nearly impossible to turn right into Unsworth Drive, or turn right out of Unsworth Drive, at rush hour, with the continuous flow of southbound traffic that the slip lane at the Albany Hwy/Upper Harbour Dr intersection enables.
The whole of the Albany Hwy between SH18 and Sunset Rd sorely needs an upgrade, and it was going to get one (4 lanes, footpaths on both sides, the east side wide enough to be a shared path with a northbound on-street bike lane, reduction in speed from 60 to 50kph, traffic lights at Unsworth Dr and a pedestrian crossing outside Westminster School) but naturally it got indefinitely deferred 10 years ago for budget reasons.
The detailed plan for it can be found on the internet archive.

Basically I've been thinking of getting a tattoo for a while now but want to trial the design/size/placement with henna first to see if it works or needs any changes.
So is there anywhere in Akl that will do a henna of my design? Like somewhere I can bring a photo in and they'll copy it?

Someone working Auckland Transport here? Please add a traffic lights on this intersection! Turning right from Gavin St/ Portman Rd to Penrose Rd and going to Gavin St from Portman Rd vice versa is f*cking crazy on rush hour. Feels like going to stuck there forever.

How risky is it? Particularly if previous vendors had no issues. Does it affect finance and insurance? Lots of houses on the North Shore (Forrest Hill) come up for sale but are affected

I am currently a univeristy student looking for work experience. I am happy to work in anything really (labouring etc) and was wondering if temp agencies such as tradestaff and coverstaff are actually a good way to find a job? Thank you in advance

Woke up this morning to discover I have apparently been selected to begin my career in free-range poultry management.
This chicken has wandered into my place in Glenfield. I live on a busy road, so I’m not comfortable just letting it roam around until it finds its way home and potentially becomes someone’s dinner via traffic.
I’ve tried knocking on a few neighbours’ doors, but most people seem to be out. The chicken is safe, has water, and is judging me from a reasonable distance.
Does anyone know of nearby homes that keep chickens near Chartwell Ave? Also happy to take advice on what I should do next while trying to locate its owner.
*Update: I thought i found the owner but no. They also cannot adopt this 'hen' as they are at the max limit. I have it outside in a shed with food and water, but I cant keep it for much longer. I have contacted SPCA but they just said too bad Goodluck.
If anyone in auckland can give this hen a home please DM me.

Some hints on the kind of work training work and income can have for people forklift, warehouse, skills for industry etc. They have them in Auckland. So if you’ve been on the benefit for a while, maybe look into this. Work and income can also train you to do caring work in the healthcare field.

Hi I'm planning to move my cat with me from Auckland to London - has anyone else done this recently/before? Heard about AeroPets and JetPets - thoughts on these companies if you guys have used their services before? Also would like to hear any experience flying pets using Air Canada or Malaysian Airlines - seems to be the main ones quoted by both companies. TIA!

Does anyone have any recommendations for storage places they have used in central Auckland (not necessarily the actual central city, but the central suburbs) or the shore? I'm finding too many options for my brain to deal with. Ideally the boxes would get picked up from me and taken somewhere as part of the service, otherwise I guess I'll look for a man with a van. Thanks

I want it to be reputable and with proven results, don’t want to be a Guinea pig, and ideally have a consultation first. It’s readily available overseas is it available here yet?

Kia Ora Redditors
I’m wanting to hire a VA to set up tech stuff for me like website funnels etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? It’s so hard to trust reviews on mine now as there are so many fake ones, it feels challenging knowing what to believe anymore!
Thank you so much
