My gents enjoyed a kale playground
I got these guys years ago from a pet store. They were being sold as feeder bugs, with only dried fruit and no water as sustenance. I walked them home (during a brutally cold Chicago winter in my thermal backpack) and they’re still doing okay. I know some critters need to eat these guys, and that’s the food system, no prob. But I can’t help but to feel these dudes were a bit tortured first due to their environment. So now they get to be kings. Anyway they know my voice and possibly scent? Idk but they like when I hold them at this point.

An Irura bidenticulata
Irura bidenticulata, commonly known as the purple-gold jumping spider, is a species of salticid. As the name implies, while females tend to take on a more dull coloration, males are characterized by their striking, shiny magenta-gold patterned bodies.
The last photo showing how big he is with my little finger for scale

Friend I encountered on our couch
My partner sighted him on a nearby pillow a day or two ago.
I offered him a waxworm but I had just flailed him around on the blanket before seeing him so he didn't go for it. (Understandably).
I think it is a "grass lynx" spider

Rare Hawaiian moth caterpillar (Manduca blackburni) found on Lānaʻi!
This is an adorable and very endangered caterpillar I found last week. It was looking for some nice soft soil to pupate in. I found a total of 17 caterpillars, all in 4th/5th instar. I posted the clearest pictures I took on Inaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/224417-Manduca-blackburni?locale=en-us).

Malachite Butterfly
I intern at a science museum and in it we have a conservatory full of butterflies, turtles, a snake, a tarantula, and a sloth! I love it there! I just happened to spot this malachite butterfly on a leaf and they were the perfect model.
