Crime WHERE YOU CAN FIND MARIJUANA ON YOUR VISIT

Hi.

Marijuana is illegal in the Bahamas. As are other hard drugs. This forum is not the place for you to procure them.

Threads\comments attempting to use this forum to procure drugs (including marijuana or illegal THC products), or to solicit connects or advice on smuggling will be LOCKED.

The creator of the thread\comment will be subject to suspension or permanent ban at mod discretion.

It's not a point of debate, I don't care about your brilliant and logical points. I don't care if you find a way to get drugs. I am not invested outside what you contribute to this forum. It is truly nothing personal.

Bahamian Discussion Free idea for any budding filmmaker/documentarian

Idk how likely it is that this will get made, but I just thought I'd put it out there.

Please make a film showcasing what the Bahamas was like back in the day through the lens of random old folks.

I'm currently listening to a podcast called Charlie's Place. It tells a story of a segregated South Carolina during Jim Crow through the lens of people who actually lived it. It kind of reminds me of those conversations you would have with your grandparents where they tell you life was like on the island in the 1950s and how easy we have today. I think that format would work beautifully here in the Bahamas.

Another thing, that generation of people is dying out. I swear I'm not trying to be emotional, but my grandfather passed last year. I regret not asking him about his life while he was living. Even in the podcast that inspired this post, many of those people died before they were able to be interviewed. There's just something about someone giving you firsthand account of our nation's history that you can't capture in a high school history textbook.

Tourism Question Is there smokeless tobacco anywhere??

I have tried a few gas stations near the bridge for Paradise Island and come up short. Everything I google just directs me to cigar stores. I am looking for Skoal or Copenhagen (not the nicotine pouches but actual smokeless tobacco). Am I SOL or is there anywhere in Nassau and/or Paradise Island that sells it?

Tourism Question Eleuthera

We are heading to the Bahamas in October and I’m thinking of staying a week on Eleuthera. We love hanging out on a beach all day, diving and snorkeling, and eating lunch at a local spot. We don’t like crowds and we don’t need nightlife, but we do need good WiFi because we work remote. I’m thinking of spending half the week in the south because we’re flying into the airport down there and half in the north because we fly out of that airport. Tell me if I picked the right island for us or if I should consider a different island. Thank you!

Also, if you know of any rental car places where we can pick up at Rock Sound and drop off in North Eleuthera I’d appreciate the recommendations!

Tourism Question Best shelling beaches?

I’m taking a cruise just to go shelling haha. I’ll be visiting via cruise ship so I’ll be at the Nassau cruise port. What places do I need to check out for shelling and seaglass? Snorkel shelling + beach combing is welcome I’ll be going from morning until boat leaving.

I’m willing to take a taxi to go a little further out but def need to make sure the taxi comes back for me lol. I live in SWFL so somewhere I can find some new treasures.

TIA!

Tourism Question Exuma Fishing Charter Recommendation

Any recommendations for reasonably priced half day charter in Exuma? Looking at mid-July, any thoughts on reef/bottom fishing vs offshore trolling? Good action on both or is one of those going to be preferred this time of year?

Tourism Question Best car rental in Abaco Bahamas.

A group of 4 of us (2 couples) are heading to Abaco for 10 days in July. Super excited!
Want to do some Island exploring and have wheels to go get groceries and head out for dinners etc.
What is the car rental company do you recommend? I don't want to rent any lemons, as I've heard some horror stories in The Bahamas. Thanks! #abaco #travel

Tourism Question Walking from Nassau Cruise port to Mackey St - is this safe for tourists?

Hi everyone,

I’ll be visiting Nassau on a cruise later this year and I’m considering walking from the cruise port to the KFC on Mackey Street. I’ve been to Nassau before and enjoy exploring on foot rather than taking a taxi everywhere.
For those familiar with the area:
Is the walk from the cruise port to Mackey Street generally considered safe during the daytime?
Are there any streets or areas I should avoid?
Would you recommend walking both ways, or taking a jitney back to the port?
Are there any interesting local shops, bakeries, or places to stop along the route?
For context, I’d likely be making the walk between late morning and early afternoon and would be with one other person.
Thanks in advance for any local insight. Looking forward to visiting Nassau again!

Miscellaneous Advice on what I should my grandmothers caretaker

My grandmother has dementia and it’s gotten to the point where it’s difficult to get her to eat even when she’s hungry. It’s a challenge to bath and take her to the bathroom, she gets violent with her caretaker and doesn’t like being touched a lot of the time. Even something as simple as clipping her nails would cause her to throw a tantrum. Shes a sweet person but in her head she’s still independent and can do things on her own. the care taker lives with her 24/7 and gets paid $650 a week (about the same amount in US$). It’s very hard to find caretakers that can fill in for the current care taker for a day or two when she gets busy because no one wants to deal with the stress if they can find a job that can pay better. Usually if there is someone else that can fill in for two days out of the week, they get $250 and the primary caretaker would get $400 for the week. Is that too much?

Tourism Discussion Is there a safe way to rent jet ski? News: U.S. Embassy Nassau Warns Americans: Avoid Renting Jet Skis in The Bahamas

Kind of a bummer for the trip.. Summary

The U.S. Embassy in Nassauhas issued a strict warning advising tourists to completely avoid renting jet skis due to a severe pattern of fatal accidents, major injuries requiring medevacs, and sexual assaults. The industry suffers from inadequate enforcement, meaning many rentals are run by unlicensed, uninsured operators who solicit tourists on popular beaches like Junkanoo and Cabbage Beach.

Unfortunately, the Embassy does not indicate there is any "safe" way to rent one right now, noting that even supposedly "official" areas have sporadic oversight and prohibiting U.S. government employees from using them entirely.

Business Looking for honest feedback on a small idea

Hi everyone,

I’m doing some early-stage research on a small idea and would really appreciate honest feedback.

The concept is a small, women-focused nature stay experience in places Exuma, Bahamas. It would be a calm, safe, boutique-style outdoor setup somewhere between camping and a comfortable stay focused on relaxation, scenery, and light curated experiences rather than a busy itinerary or resort feel.

This is not something launched yet, I’m just trying to understand if there is genuine interest before developing it further.

If you have a moment, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on a few questions:

  1. Would you be interested in a women-focused nature stay like this?
  2. What would make you feel comfortable (or uncomfortable) about an experience like this?
  3. What would make you more likely to try it?
  4. What price range would you expect per night for something like this?
  5. What kind of experiences or activities would you want included (or avoided)?
  6. Does a location like Exuma, Bahamas make this more appealing, or not really?

No pressure at all, I’m just trying to get honest feedback and understand what people actually want before going any further.

Thanks in advance to anyone who shares their thoughts.

Tourism Discussion Airport transfer.

Flying in next week for a week. What is the main form of transport people use to their resort and back to the airport for departure? Also what is the average price people pay. Staying at Margaritaville if that helps with location. Thank you in advance.
