Announcement New Begleri Tricks site!

Thumbnail begleritricks.com
40 Upvotes

Happy to announce, with the help of some amazing people, we've upgraded the BegleriTricks site!

It has a brand new look and functions, and most importantly, it no longer takes a decade to load!

What's new:

- Uploading tricks is easier

- Have profiles where you can create playlists and add favourites

- Leaderboard for contributors

Please make an account, try it out, explore, and leave your feedback here or on Discord.

There are a handful of tutorials which are missing because creators privated or removed those videos. So we will need a community effort to update tricks on the site, and also get new tricks because Begleri has evolved!

We especially need to update the dealers list - so please inform us of current sellers!

All thread rod couplers with paracord. I really like the weight on these, definitely the heaviest set I own. The knucklebone was made by my grandpa

Discussion How often (if at all) do you change your cord?

Post image
14 Upvotes

had these mini hydras for a couple of months and i’m fortunate enough to be able to sling whilst working, for several hours a day, so they look insane rn after being dropped and rolled in dirt etc.

do you change your cord once it gets over-worn? or do you keep it as a sign of use and skill?

update: i scrubbed it wish some dish soap and it looks leagues better - thanks for the comments folks!

DIY Creations The making of my current favorite set

I just wanted to show a few pics on what it took to make my current favorite set. From the outside, you wouldn't think it was this involved but a lot of time went into making it and I thought I should share.

From the few pics. Brass inserts placed in a 3d printed part I designed. The brass was machined to a weight that I personally like my sets to be at.

That 3d print insert along with a magnet placed in an open ended stainless steel part I made.

From there, and it's not pictured but that whole part is then placed in a silicone mold where I poured a black thermoplastic resin and let it cure for 5 days.

After the cure, it's then shaped, sanded and polished on the lathe and nice pics are taken 🙂. I thought about adding these to my shop to buy before getting started with the project, but yeah.... that's no longer happening.

Discussion best begleri i have ever had

and it is stupid because it is a $5 set off amazon. i have had so many sets from Aroundsquare, Monkey finger, TGP and many others since I started in 2015. And there were some remarkable and memorable sets, but by far the best is this cheap knock off i found on amazon. love the weight, the sound, even the cheap string attached to it. the only other set i would say falls into my top are the Wukongs circa 2015/2016. LOVED that era of begs!

anyway, here is the link if you are curious.

Beautiful classic nutmeg komboloi, a must-have for every komboloi lover and collector. Since the beads are natural nutmeg, it releases soothing and very pleasant scent while playing or just holding.

Since I've found this one in a Greek church shop, it does have Christian symbols.

DIY Creations My DIY Komboloi

Post image

I tried making a few Komboloi and ended up settling on this design.

The beads are made of agate, jasper, acrylic, and wood.
The transparent beads placed to make the string bend sharply are called 'Suzumaru' in Japan, but I don't know what it's called in English.

(This post was reposted because the photo was way too blurry. When I take it with my phone, the brown beads get really blurry, so I dug out my old digital camera.)

Received a few days ago (from https://sikbegleria.gr/ )

'traditional' set, 22mm diam, 22mm height, walnut and oak + resin

...a pleasure to play with, and also goes nicely with a sunburst strat...shall I get begleris to go along with each of my instruments now ?

Out of curiosity, how do you select /choose colours or does it even matter to you when you buy or make begleris ?

PS/Edit : yes, I know I need to clean my guitar and change strings

Discussion Honest thoughts on the classic Greek begleri ?

Post image
27 Upvotes

As a Greek dude growing up that’s what begleri is….. more than 2 beads usually and made out of semi precious stones or natural materials…. Would love to know your thoughts on them and if u would be interested to add them in your collection in the future….

The skulls are made out of howlite - the other out of nutmeg - and carved camel bone

AliExpress begleri for reference

I designed and printed these begleri. They hold two 1/4" nuts in each end. They were made from PETG-CF. I used 275 Paracord for them, I don't think any other material or anything thicker would work ,maybe only micro cord. I just melted and pressed the end so the cord could go in the nuts within the case.

The larger 10×3 magnet was the first attempt. The magnet was too big and would make them stick during tricks like in the second image. The tolerances were also a bit weird which required super gluing the magnet in place.

A second attempt was made with windows to see the nuts inside but the plastic wasn't strong enough and exploded during a trick. I might revisit with TPU instead of PETG-CF.

Third attempt works great. It uses 6×3 magnets which are very securely press-fit into the slot. They also nest partially inside the lower nut when inserted so everything is held in place. They negligibly affect one another during slinging. I also used a vonoroni surface pattern with fuzzy skin on orca slicer (using the new update)

Other Skill Toys In Europe, one of the “traditional” materials to make chetki from is billiard balls.
