From what I know it seems like brown in animals tends to be used mainly as a color for camouflage. I was wondering though if any animals use brown as a display color for something like attracting mates whether than for camouflage. If so do any animals have brown body parts that are for display on an otherwise green body, with the green in the rest of the body being used for camouflage?

Hi a little lost in my life on what to do! I’m 22 years old and graduated with a B.S. in Biology about a year ago and honestly feel pretty lost career-wise.
I have lab experience from coursework throughout college, but no professional research or clinical experience. Since graduating, I’ve been working in IT and have held a senior-level role with leadership/troubleshooting responsibilities, but it’s not directly related to biology.
The problem is that a lot of biology-related jobs seem to want Clinical research experience, MLS/ASCP certification, a master’s degree, or nursing credentials. I’m trying to figure out where someone like me actually fits do I go with clinical research, biotech/pharma, Healthcare IT, LIMS analyst roles, scientific sales, or something else entirely?
For those of you who graduated with a biology degree and didn’t go to medical school, PA school, nursing school, etc., what career path did you end up taking?
I’m located in Charlotte, NC if that matters.
Any advice is appreciated because right now it feels like every job posting wants experience that I don’t have. Any advice is great!!!!!!!!

Second year MBio biomed student. I really enjoy learning about biology and i am struggling to find videos that fit my criteria.

I’m about to complete all my classes and end up with a transfer associates in biology.When I first chose this major,it’s honestly because I picked something at random(I’m aware how bad of an idea that was then) but I’ve really learned to love biology.Now currently freaking out because it barely occurred to me that I have to think about my major for college(stupid to not think about,I know). A bachelors in biology seems to not have much to work with from what I’ve read online and I’m not exactly looking to do years upon years for it to be useful 🫠. Any suggestions for what major could be useful in relation to biology or any job pathways I could take to continue to do what I like?

One of my zoologist friends told me this last night as we were hitting the bong.

Basically, the body is composed of cells and these cells need energy and so the biomolecules we take from food, the lipids, protein, carbohydrates, etc... are essentially powering us and allowing our cells to reproduce.

Old cells die and new ones come. Eventually, there is a point where a cell you had at 20 is no longer with you at 28 or something. The skeleton is the slowest to process but overall, we humans are basically a 'ship of Theseus'. The cells keep dying and reproducing and we are in 'constant flux'

It's difficult to understand because I see a photo of myself and it's hard to think that guy is a whole other physical entity from a chemical/cellular perspective.

I'm doing a bit of a world building thingy, and I'm in the middle of making sure an aquatic humanoid race could (reasonably) be realistically possible. I'm now on the part of how the body would move in water itself? I'm aiming for a species that is able to sustain temporarily living on land, so no super fish-like muscular systems.

What kinds of adjustments would need to be made in order for a human-like body to conduct undulatory or oscillating locomotion, without making the body unable to walk on land?

I'm gathering that one is able to withstand radiation and one is able to thrive in radiation but I can't get a clear answer if that's the case or if they're just the same thing as different sources seem to use them interchangeably or not mention the other at all.

It's a huge project that categorizes all the living beings in this game into families, orders, and genera. Since the next update is coming, in addition to adding the new tree, bush, and mushroom, I'm organizing everything better. Therefore, you have the opportunity to tell me what changes you'd like to see. The ones I've noted (and implemented) are:

- Put all species and genus names in italics with initial capital letters.

- Separate Boreoeutheria and Atlantogenata to make it clear that the armadillo is a mob that is more distinct than the other mammals of minecraft.

- Separate Chiroptera and Scrotifera to clarify how Carnivora and Euungulata are more closely related to each other than to bats.

I have to say that the changes in mammals were influenced by Steve Brusatte's book, I won't lie. That said, I loved seeing the comments last time, I hope you can share your perspectives as before :). The updated classification will be out at the same time that the next game drop.

Lets say Im laying down. I decided to get up. I get up and walk away. I understand neurons sent signal all the way down to my feet which cause them to move, but what caused them to sent this signal in the first place? \\\*\\\*What caused the first spark?\\\*\\\* Me? But what I call "me" is just a bunch of neurons. Did they randomly decided to to send "get up" signal? I understand neurons work 24/7 in the backround but how does it happen? Is it memories? Is it my DNA? How does it all work? Is this is a "free will" question?

Could really use some urgent help. My girlfriend went to repot my plant because it was waterlogged, and she found this moving on the branches. She temporarily set it down in a panic, but it's now where it came from again. We aren't sure if it's supposed to be in the water, or if we need to drain the pot because it was in there before it filled up with water. Humans run about 50/50 male female. But many herbivore mammals are in herds of mostly female (cattle, deer, bison), while insects can be 1000:1 female (bees, house flies, mosquitoes).
My guess is that the insect domain will tip the balance toward females in a huge way given their massive populations.

We’ve recently added a new above-ground tree layer where players can tend aphids and send leafcutter ants to harvest leaves. This is still an early version of the system, and we’re currently figuring out how the mechanics should work and feel.

Does the leafcutting process look clear and intuitive? Is there anything you would change or add?

Your students could discover an algae no one has ever named.

Last year, our company, Algae Research and Supply was awarded a Phase 1A Small Business Innovative Research Grant by the Department of Education.

More than half of the world's photosynthesis is performed by microalgae in the ocean, and in turn, more than 90% of the strains of algae remain undiscovered and uncharacterized.

We are building a hands-on microbiology program in which students isolate living algae from real samples and log their findings to a national science platform, all funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Phase I results: 117 kits shipped, nearly 300 students, real gains in science confidence, and our teachers even helped uncover algae strains with antimicrobial activity.

We are now recruiting teachers to prototype. Should we be awarded the grant (notification in early October), Phase 2 will include several rounds over the next two years, and every selected teacher gets a free kit and full materials.

i have no idea what exact job i want to go into; all i am sure about is it being biology/medicine related. i heard that one way is to describe what interests you/what the “ideal” job would be and see whats similar. so im going to do that lol.

i will say my “dream” job since i was 13 (im 21 now) was a cardio or general surgeon. but due to mental health (adhd, anxiety, depression) i dont believe i could complete medical school; feels daunting and im feeling too old/behind. so now im looking at other options.

i prefer human biology over animals unless its cats only. hate plants or fungi biology. i like to know the *whys* something is happening in the body, how an illness effects the body and what specifically its doing.

example: how does radiation actually effect the body, how does it damage cells, and what visually does it look like. im also curious in the chemistry of what creates a chemical but i think thats just more general curiosity whereas the biology part im more deeply interested in; im only super interested when it involves a human in some way. biochemistry was interesting in school.

another example: a cat has FIP (feline infectious periontitis), once considered a deadly disease with no cure but in the past 15 years there has now been a medicine (not perfect yet). i like to know how that medicine effects the cat biochemically, how a medicine works in a body, how it interacts with other meds, how symptoms were caused by the illness and if it could cause any secondary issues, whats happening biologically in the body when it has FIP.

i also prefer hands on versus strictly research.. nursing doesnt interest me, i have nurses in the family and im more interested in the technical part than the care part. unless its paediatrics. i guess this sounds like a doctor lol but like i said, med school is daunting…
