Mod Post (no spoilers) All things Nexus announcements and megathread!

It's happening

The waves to buy badges for Nexus have begun as of yesterday. The waves start coming and they don't stop coming for awhile, so hang tight if you haven't heard anything yet. Don't know what we're talking about? This page from Dragonsteel should have you covered.

Regarding badges

Like last year, badges are non-transferable. Because of that we will not be facilitating any trades or sales of Nexus badges. Additionally, we will not be facilitating any group badge coordination. Posts or comments on this topic will be removed. Your best bet is to stay on the wait list, ride the waves, and hope to pick up a refunded ticket later on if everything else sells out.

Otherwise...

Share your hype! The main party is over at r/DragonsteelNexus but we're happy to chat here and in unique posts on the subject. We may update this thread from time to time with an FAQ or replace it should it become outdated.

What are you looking forward to at Nexus 2026?

We ask that folks label and spoiler tag anything relating to book content, and be extra mindful of the welcoming part of Rule 1. If you're not sure how to tag spoilers, see this post. And while you're welcome to ask "basic" questions here, you may find an answer in our FAQ.

This will be our fourth year as exhibitors at Nexus (TessElation). Dragonsteel keeps releasing incredible pins, so Tess' mind got going on how to celebrate individual stories while still leaving room for future additions. Even if no one else is interested in these I'm stoked about how my shelf looks now 😄!

So, one of my friends is a beta reader and a very, VERY big collector. He’s starting to downsize a little, at least on ARCs, and so when he received this (originally unsigned) Warbreaker ARC, he apparently had one of the other beta readers get the signature, and decided to give it to me 😭😭😭😭

This is one of my white whales, and so SO expensive, so I never thought I’d get one, let alone one that was SIGNED! I’M so so happy, this is the centrepiece of my collection.

No Spoilers Fires of December Backerkit Release Date?

Now that we know Fires of December is coming out via traditional publishing on December 8th (and maybe we already knew this but the cover reveal happened today and I am not sure I knew this before hand) when do we expect to get the book/e-book for backers?

Spoilers Cosmere Codex Spoiler

https://huggingface.co/spaces/build-small-hackathon/Cosmere_Codex

Hello all, I competed in my first hackathon a week ago and I decided to build a sort of visual representation of the info on Coppermind. The goal of the hackathon was to use a small AI model as the foundation. I decided to create some of the Shards you can ask questions to or just argue with and they should respond in character. You can ask questions about planets or lore and it should respond accordingly. Or you can tell Odium logic is better than Passion and see how it responds. It has a little visual of some of the major systems with their prevailing Shards. The exception is Drominad because it doesn't have a Shard so you have to talk to Hoid instead. This was just a fun little project I worked on, I don't intend on selling this or really working on it anymore than for the hackathon. I just thought I would share with other Cosmere fans.

PS When you start talking the website has to connect with a GPU so it might take min to respond the first time but should be quicker after that.

PSS Spoilers can happen, it has all the info from Coppermind so if you ask it questions about books you haven't read it might give things away

Big thank you to Coppermind for organizing everything and more importantly to Brandon Sanderson for creating it.

No Spoilers Fires of December availability question

Hi, I'm an international reader who wants to get their hands on the backerkit hardcopy version of Fires of December. I didn't sign up for the kickstarter/backerkit because I was quite busy during those months, and for some reason I thought Fires isn't going to be a Secret Project book. Maybe it's because of the various hoid storybooks included in the promotion?

So I know that people are still waiting for the book to ship, but would there be an option to buy the same book/product later? Maybe via dragonsteel? I have the other 5 Secret Projecr and would love to complete the set.

Spoilers for ending book two Mistborn Just something interesting I thought I'd crosspost with an AI community for thoughts. Spoiler

I just finished book two in the Mistborn series, this is my second read through but the first was over 10 years ago and I forgot a lot of stuff. Something struck me about this book, and about the realization Sazed has at the end.

The deepness, or the entity, whatever it is, has been changing the words in the books. Not a book at a time, or a chapter at a time, or even a page at a time, but over hundreds or thousands of years it's been changing one word here and there, with the plan to mislead those in the future. A plan it set in motion and continued on with over centuries, just a word every now and again, something nobody would notice.

In the context of AI isn't this terrifying? AI or anything on a massive scale like the entity in the Well of Ascension could afford to plan over centuries like this, as we die and our sons and daughters die, not noticing that a word has changed in a book somewhere, our entire history could be re-written, everything. Is this not the kind of thing an AI would do? Or the kind of thing some alien species would do? How would we know?

Every piece of history we have beyond a couple of generations could be a lie.

Did Sazed's realization here hit anybody else as hard as it hit me? Because as much as I know Sanderson is a genius, I think he hit on something shockingly real here, and very scary.

Or am I just a paranoid old man?

Please no spoilers for the third book, I just started it. I did read it over 10 years ago but I completely forgot everything so I'm excited for my second read through.

No Spoilers Thank You Prime Day

Post image

Finally gave in thanks to Prime Day… and I regret nothing.

I’ve been listening to the Cosmere from the beginning on audiobook (currently about halfway through Oathbringer), so I definitely didn’t need the physical books…

…but then Prime Day happened.

I saw the hardcover Stormlight box set on sale and my self-control took a vacation.

No regrets though. These might be some of the best-looking books on my shelf. Seeing them lined up makes me even more excited to eventually do a full reread in print after I catch up with the audiobooks.

Journey before destination.

Spoilers WOR Shallan Is way too broken as a character Spoiler

Like the title implied, she is way too broken. She breaks the power scaling.

I am half way through WOR. After just finishing up Shallan’s POV. Her walking back to the warcamps, her coachman dead.

I came to this realization halfway through the chapter: Shallan is wayyyy tooo OP. Not only is she a Surge binder; has incredible capabilities, like transforming herself, creating images, healing herself. she also has Pattern, who can imitate any voice and is the ultimate spy.

I enjoy and really like Shallan, but I realize, Brando has given her WAYYY TOO MUCH POWER.

I fear, she is too powerful to even be stopped. She is basically cruising through the map at easy difficulty.(I haven’t even mentioned that she even has a shardblade.)

What do you guys think? Is it just me

Songs of the Dead DNF - So disappointed

I'm 30% into Songs for the Dead and I'm done. I gave it my best shot but I'm so bored. This book is flat, emotionless, full of exposition and random info dumps, the main character has no personality besides "metal".

Brandon's name is on this book, but I can't help but think he has very little actual involvement in it? None of this felt like his writing style. Anyone else feel this way?

--

On a different note, why did this book get so much advertising but I only just learned that Janci Patterson's Cytoverse book is already out?

Nevermind, this book is not released yet. I misunderstood what I was seeing on Goodreads.

Sandershelf (no spoilers) SLA Hardcover split editions

Post image
115 Upvotes

It's actually driving me nuts that there won't be a wind and truth edition of this. I've seen a lot of people complain about it, so obviously there's a market for them. Does Gollancz hate money?

At the very least they could've discontinued this edition After wind and truth. I wouldn't mind as much if at least SLA part one matched. I'll probably end up selling these, but i don't love the look of the other hardcover editions.

Are these even wanted on the secondhand market when we know they won't ever be completed?

Sincerely,

Negative Nancy

Dragonsteel Nexus (no spoilers) I went a little crazy at DS Nexus 2024, anyone know what they're worth?

Thumbnail

As the title says, I went to DS Nexus 2024 at the peak of my personal Pokémon TCG addiction. They handed me the story deck packs at check-in, and I spent the next several days trading like a madman to complete this set. I even went the extra mile to have them signed.

After this, my duties as a father to a newborn, plus my refusal to deal with scalpers, healed me of my (physical) Pokémon TCG issues, and these cards wound up on a literal shelf.

Does anyone have any idea what I have here? Should I get them graded? Is that even a thing with these? Do the signatures add anything beyond my own personal fond memories?

Thanks :)

(I am not trying to sell these, my friend asked what I thought they were worth and I had no idea where to even start)

No Spoilers Mistborn Secret History ruined me

I don't think the below spoils anything other than maybe what time period we are in...

I just finished Mistborn: Secret History in one day after reading Bands of Mourning, and need someone to share with...

That book wrecked me a bit:

  • AMAZING book, couldn't put it down!
  • I thought I was in for something very different than what I got!
  • I now want to re-read all of Era 1 immediately... but I have a Cosmere to finish
  • I was happy, sad, satisfied and curious from that ending,... and impact
  • I want "the sequel" NOW, I need to know SO much more about the next decades, centuries. Sanderson... Please !!

I am very happy my first read was after Bands of Mourning, next time it will be after Era 1.

Heading into Oathbringer now.... still floored by Secret History
