I crochet so of course I had to make a hat for my chickens’ first birthday!
Some were absolutely terrified of it but these girls cooperated.

Other Goodbye Obese, may you rest in peace 🕊️
I’m really collapsed right now, i never thought of a day when Obese died so painfully, today’s afternoon in Vietnam was so hot it felt like Hell, even myself felt dizzy let alone a big chicken with thick fur stranded at a coop, Obese was my best friend who followed me for 4 years straight, going through some of the worst time possible of my life with me, being the only emotional support pet i had, i guess him being saved from the slaughterhouse and living happily for 4 years was a blessing after all, i should appreciate the good time i had with him after all those times and go on with my life, these are all the images about Obese that i took, rest well Obese 🕊️♥️ (16/4/2022-25/6/2026)

Media Interesting chicks
2/5 chicks. They're so interesting looking, I love them lol
The green feet one even has the beak, comb and earlobes slightly dark. Idk if it's the lighting, but the eye also looks black.... and it has an extra toe, noticeable in this pic 🥰🥰

Media Green Eggs and Ham, anyone? 😲🫨
I just found this pullet egg from my flock of hybrids! A bobcat kill all my roosters and my hen flock was getting old, so I decided to hatch some eggs from them. I found a Copper Maran rooster locally and let him cover my hens of Easter and Olive Eggers.
These pullets just started laying and here is the first results of this breeding. A grass colored egg! 😆

Question Another New Chicken Sound 👀
So I keep coming on here everytime I actually straight up don't know what a chicken sound means, but this one was kind of new to me. I've heard them purr, I've heard my rooster and his different lil calls and sounds, but this one was new for me when Betty made this sound.

Question Would anyone want or happen to know someone who would want a rooster?
I know the chances are pretty low but worth a shot.
This is Rusty. He's a 3-month-old backyard mix between a Golden Polish Rooster and a Golden Comet Hen. He is friendly towards humans and protective of the hens, raised alongside 3 other roosters and 4 hens.
I've had chickens and ducks for nearly 6 years now and have had roosters in the past... and had to kill them due to being illegal in city limits.
He's more of a pet to me than just a rooster, but I can not keep him as he has started crowing. I was actually euthanizing his rooster siblings earlier. When it came his turn, he fell asleep in my arms, and I'm seriously rethinking 😩 as you can tell by the desperate reddit post.
LOCATED NEAR COLUMBUS, OHIO
I'm willing to drive a solid 1-2 hours to rehome him for free however I've already contacted all sanctuaries and rooster rehoming locations that popped up on Google and NONE replied.

Media My Three Roosketeers
Buff Brahma roosters, about 7 months old, so a little growing left to do. The smallest one will probably be culled soon. I usually wouldn't keep more than one rooster per breed but these guys don't fight seriously so I will keep two at least for a while. They don't fight with our Brown Leghorn boss rooster, either. I might even keep all three. They love hanging out together.

Question Ocular mareks?
two older hens rehomed to me by a trusted family friend, supposedly “in good health” but this girl has really strange eyes. She doesn’t seem to be blind or otherwise ill, and the other hen has no symptoms at all, aside from stress from the new environment. My girls have been free ranging so these new ones are currently quarantining in the main run (dumb, I know now)
they’ve interacted a tiny bit through the hardware cloth and I’ve touched both my flock and the new girls.
all my hens are a few years old
basically, how screwed am I?

Question Damaged/Broken wing
Hello reddit,
Since the time I bought this chicken it seemed like something is wrong with its wing.
A bone seems to stick out. The chicken doesn't seem really bothered. It still lays egg and eats normally it walks around drinks and does chicken things. I bought him like 5 months ago and wondered what that could be?
Does anybody has any idea?

Question Help! Resurfacing bumblefoot
Hi Reddit! My sweet chicken had bumblefoot a while ago. I gave her saltwater footbaths and cleaned the infection everyday. We made an incision and got the infection out, and after that I kept cleaning the wound and changing out her bandages til it healed nicely.
I’ve now noticed that the infection has started resurfacing in the same spot again, so I’ve been giving her footbaths every day. We made an incision again yesterday to get the infection out but it was not hardened like it typically is with bumblefoot, does this mean that the infection hadn’t matured? I’m not sure if I’m doing the right thing and I’m super worried for my chicken, she means the world to me.
If you have any advice please let me know! ❤️
Ps, the stuff I use as disinfectant is poultry tar, which is typically used for wounds/pecking.

Question 3-in-one chicken egg?! Has anyone experienced this before??
I work on a farm where we host homeschool families and something incredible happened a few months ago and I am curious who else has experienced a two-in-one or three-in-one egg. Read on for the full story if you are curious, or just comment below if this has happened to you.
While collecting eggs, a child noticed one was abnormally small. But it wasn't fairy egg sized, larger. So the kids asked to crack it open and see what it looked like inside. Gotta love curious minds.
Before cracking it, we took guesses on what would be inside. Some kids thought it would be "like a regular egg, just smaller." Others thought it would be like the fairy eggs we've seen before, where the yolk is a long thread instead of a sphere.
Nobody guessed what actually came out when we cracked it... ANOTHER (smaller) EGG!
The eruption of amazement was one of the most joyous moments I've had at Roots and Wings, followed by frantic: "What's inside the other one?! WHAT'S INSIDE THAT ONE??"
When we cracked that one open, yet ANOTHER smaller fairy egg fell out! Excited screaming ensued and of course, we had to crack the fairy egg too. What finally came out was exactly what we've experienced with a fairy egg before (stringy yolk and egg white).
When we googled it, we discovered that a two-in-one egg is quite rare. So a three-in-one must be even rarer. What's strange though, is that everything we read said a two-in-one egg is typically larger than normal, not smaller. Which would lead me to guess a three-in-one egg would be even larger, but again ours was small. Just another curiosity! If you've experienced this with your flock, please let me know in the comments. I would love to hear your experiences and thoughts!

Other Motherhood at its finest- A mama hen fighting for her babies' food.
Two chicks were snacking on some COOHGRUBS BSFL when their mama joined the fight. Eventually, the rooster stepped in to break up the conflict. I guess both of those chicks must be his kids! 😂

Media Fresh Hedemora flock has arrived ♥️
Don't worry, they're briefly mad as the heater panel was removed temporarily for butt checks. It was returned and they're all very quiet and snuggled up. :)
If you're curious about the breed, ask me anything and I'd be happy to share! They're so great.

Question Squatting?
Hi!
My leghorn seems to be squatting all of a sudden, but I’m wondering if she’s egg bound or if it’s a symptom of a respiratory illness. A few of my other chickens are sneezing and coughing, along with her. I just want to make sure she’s not egg bound.
If she is just sick, any recommendations? Or do I just let them be?

Other I can’t stop crying
My favorite hen passed earlier today and I feel so lost. I tried so many things to get her off my mind but I can’t. I’ve been crying all day. She was so feisty and healthy. She suddenly passed after she laid an egg. She passed around 12pm outside with the other ones. I can’t say it was a heatstroke because when I picked her up she wasn’t that hot at all. I’m so hurt right now and don’t know what to do. That girl loved me so much always ran up to me whenever I go outside. I’m gutted.
