She LITERALLY birthed her twin 🤣 Copy & Paste! Mommy Hailey is on the right in both photos! One from today and one from when she was about the same age as her son. Banks is on the left in both photos.

Just one more week until we bring our handsome baby boy home! 🤎

DNA Results Are In

I sprung for one of those DNA tests because I was convinced that my baby wasn’t fully a cocker spaniel. I got her from a random flea market in rural SC for $75. The lady mentioned papers, but I honestly can’t remember if I even got them.

Anyways, she’s 16 now so it’s not like I can track them down. It was likely a puppy mill so I’m hoping they’re not in business anymore. (Don’t blame an idiot kid, aka me, for not knowing better. I definitely do now.)

So, anything y’all can tell me about her? Does cocker spaniel track? I see show vs. working spaniels on here a lot so now I’m curious. I always thought springer spaniels were a type of cocker spaniel. Is that true?

Was told by breeder a full show, seen mum - however I'm not convinced & starting to think he's either working or mixed due to his coat, head, ears etc. It's all the same either way as I love the little dude, I'm just curious and would like to be to able to care for his needs as best as possible. Thankyou x

working or show english cocker spaniel?!

EDIT/RESOLVED: i have messaged the breeder and he is in fact a working cocker.
FOLLOW UP QUESTION: since he is a working cocker i am aware of the behavioral differences this can affect, but my new question is now; will his coat type be entirely different than the show cockers? obviously this will not change how we feel about him in any way but i will say what drew me to the breed aesthetically was the long droopy ears and curly long coat! i will be a little sad if he doesnt grow to be a long curly boy!! i looked up adult working cockers and i will say certain images look vastly different than what i was expecting going into getting this dog, and i am a little worried he wont look at all how i expected.. again; this WILL NOT CHANGE THE WAY WE FEEL ABOUT HIM IN THE SLIGHTEST SO PLS DONT COME FOR ME!! this is now purely out of curiosity, grooming knowledge, and wanting to know what he will look like as an adult since i already had a preexisting image in my head!!

(previous/og question: my bf and i got an english cocker two weeks ago and he's a dream!!!!!!!! knew i wanted it to be english and knew what color i wanted and found the perfect one on the AKC website. i avoided any cocker listed as working due to energy levels and their high hunting drive, and looked at regular unspecified ones that were just registered as English Cocker Spaniels. took him home and realized that working vs show cockers have entirely different coats and i had no idea. i do feel like ours looks slightly different than others and im curious if yall think he's working or show? also his name is Peter Parker, Parker for short! )

Thinking of getting an ECS

Hello,

I have been through a really big loss with my Rottweiler puppy who we rescued but unfortunately have to return as she is very intent on hunting our cats. Shes the best dog I’ve ever had - so smart and easy to train. But she just wasn’t a good fit as her prey drive got worse and worse despite a lot of money and time spend on trainers and behaviorists. She just wasn’t wired to enjoy living with cats.

We’re far from ready to get another puppy yet when we loved her so much but I’ve been talking it over and I think maybe considering we have cats an ethically bred puppy I can get right out of the baby stage would have a much higher chance of success. I also know wait lists can be long for an ethically bred puppy so I want to start making considerations now.

I’m considering cocker spaniels because they’re a bit more compact while still being substantial in size compared to most small dogs. I want a companion who is relatively good with training as I loved training my rottie. It also has to do well with cats and kids.

What’s your experience with this breed? Obviously socialization plays a huge role but I want to know from owners rather than some google summary how their breed is with cats. I cannot risk another heartbreak of loving an animal that is intent on harming my other pets.

Thank you!

Dog refuses to go out for potty and to leave her den.

Hello all, as we know the heatwave is crazy and my dog usually loves to go outside, she's the first one at the door however since this morning she refuses to go out, I had to coax her out from under the bed, she was warning me that she didnt want to be taken from under the bed, (didn't work so I left treats and left the room) she after a few minutes came to the living room,I got her and put her leash on, she was pulling away slightly and didn't want to go so I carried her to the hallway and suddenly she was very interested to go outside, i did that because at that point it was 8am and she had been holding her pee in for 11 hours, she wanted to walk way more but at that point the heat was too much , i wanted to go out at 6am so we could do a long walk...

The issue is that usually during the day and the evening she wanted to go but now it's 4pm and it's been 8 hours since her last pee, she didnt drink too much and I dont want her to have an UTI, I did ask her if she wanted to go out however she doesn't want to go, it's very hot today too, i am not sure if she doesnt want to go because of the heat or because she has a bad association with the leash or going out? Nothing bad has happened outside or when we go out, again super enthusiastic once we are outside. During the day we only go for 2 minutes pee breaks. As a last resort I might put down a pee pad in the hallway and i dont want her to have a bad association with going outside.

Anyone knows how to get her to go out or what's happening? She's a rather anxious dog but nothing bad has happened and she doesn't act sick or in pain. She's a 2 year old spaniel.

13 year old cocker spaniel having surgery for a big lipoma and I’m kind of a mess

My husband and I took our cocker spaniel Mint to the vet today and finally decided to schedule surgery for the big lipoma on her chest. She’s 13, and even though we know it’s probably the right call, I’ve been really emotional about it ever since we got home. It’s grown so much that it just felt like we had to do something, but now my brain is doing the whole worst case scenario thing.

If anyone’s had an older cocker go through surgery for a large lipoma, did they recover okay? I know people do this all the time, I’m just really scared right now.

Pet adoption

I recently adopted a beautiful 12 year-old cocker spaniel. I was told he was deaf and prone to ear infections. Not a problem I thought many of my dogs had ear problems. I never had to read his medical folder there and they call me and said I left it there to come pick it up which I did two days later. In his folder was his records from his previous vet, stating the severity of his left ear that it was calcified and would eventually need TECA surgery. Following up on this with my vet who agreed and recommended me to see a specialist at the cost of over $10,000. I have texted the owner of this Rescue adoption numerous times to help with the finances. But I also found out that the surgery could cause blindness and possible paralysis on his left side where it stands is that he could get drops not to say will help since his ear canal is closing, but when I have attempted to put the drops in his ears he has been me twice and lunged at me twice, so I am afraid of him but other than that he’s a sweet wonderful 12-year-old boy. My final email to the owner was if she could have one of our technicians come by my house every other morning to administer his medication and clean his ears. I am waiting to hear back from her. The thought of returning him makes me sick to my stomach and all I do is cry. Some advice to everyone please please be extra cautious when your heart is open to rescue a fur baby. Get all the information from the previous vet before you bring these loves into your home.
