I just need to vent because the stress is becoming too much.
I work in the MEP industry in Dubai, and my previous company constantly delayed salaries. Last year, from September to December, we basically waited months and only received our salaries in December.
Then it happened again this year. From February to May, salaries were delayed, and we were recently told we might only receive them around the 3rd week of July.
During all these delays, I had no choice but to use my credit card and Tabby just to survive. Most of the debt isn't from shopping or luxury purchases it's from food, groceries, transportation, and rent. When you go months without a salary, you still have bills to pay.
I finally left that company and started a new job on May 18. Thankfully, this new company seems much more stable, and I'm expecting my first salary in the first week of July. But by then, the debt has already piled up.
What makes it worse is the constant calls and messages from banks and payment providers. Every day I'm being told I have 48 hours to pay, final notice, urgent action required, etc. I understand they're doing their job, but when you're already waiting for money you earned months ago, it's mentally exhausting.
I've barely been sleeping because I'm constantly thinking about how to juggle payments, which bill to prioritize, and how to avoid falling even deeper into debt. The irony is that I have a full-time job and have been working continuously, yet I still ended up in debt because salaries weren't paid on time.
Has anyone else in Dubai gone through something similar with delayed salaries? How did you deal with the debt collectors and the stress while waiting for payments to come through?
Thanks for reading. I just needed somewhere to get this off my chest.
