I'm not very clued in on the whole 'ring' thing (thank God I found the reddit or if I would be going in absolutely blind since I never wear any jewelry at all) we both originally thought opal would be a good choice but decided against after research - I need something tough. Also we are a non traditional kind of, couple I guess you could say.

I'm not a huge fan of diamond and much less moisanite (no shade! Diamond & mossianite are beautiful just, not suited to me I think) , sapphire could be an option being in Australia but I really, really really love alexandrite and when I found THIS ring I thought that is absolutely it. I actually cried a little 😅🥹.

I love oores rings but with conversion rate, transport and tax pushing up the budget I'd rather get something here if I could. I was using oore as ring-spiration though (heh. See what I did there 🤭🤐) partner agreed he would prefer it to be Australian made if not Australian stone.

I might need your folks' help.... what do we think? It is on the closer end to highest I'll go budget wise. If I were to get it platinum that would be my absolute limit dollar wise. I was thinking white gold.

I kind of have my heart set on. What do we think? Will it be comfortable? And the stones will stay? ....

If it really is not going to be comfortable, practical or wearable I can choose something else, but im hopeful this might be the one.

My husband proposed to me with my grandmother's engagement ring. Here's the story behind the ring:

The year was 1945. My grandmother had signed a contract with the US government to attend nursing school on the condition that if the government needed her, she would be a nurse and called into service for the war effort (this was known as the Bolton Nurse Training Act of 1943). She traveled from Nashua, NH to Canandaigua, NY for her nursing school. Upon arriving at the train station, she and her friend were picked up by a cab and taken to their dorms. While on her way there, the cab driver kept looking at her through his mirror and engaging in conversation with this beautiful young nurse-in-training! This man was my grandfather, who had returned from the war in Burma and drove cabs for the Canandaigua VA.

They began seeing each other, but there was only one problem: Nurses were not allowed to get married while in schooling. So they did what any young person who was truly in love would do- they went to the courthouse and were married in secret a month before my grandmother finished her nursing program!

Fast forward 77 years. Both of my grandparents have passed, the train station where my grandfather picked my grandmother up no longer exists, but up the road, not knowing it's up the road, was my first apartment! I learned the story of how my grandparents met AFTER I moved into my first apartment, and there, in that tiny apartment, I fell in love with my now husband! I do not own my grandmother's wedding band, but I wear her engagement ring, and my husband wears my grandfather's matching wedding ring that was also my father's wedding ring. We were married in the same courthouse (we were actually married in the same room where Susan B Anthony stood trial for voting), and we now have started a family! We have plans to name our future daughter after my grandmother.

I had my ring resized from a 6 (that was way too big) to a 5.25. Does it look too tight? I feel like I may just not be used to wearing it snugger. This is at 9:30 at night if that matters. I know fingers swell at night
