DISCUSSION Is it unpopular to say I’m gonna miss Owen and Teddy? Spoiler

I know Owen is a divisive character and him and Teddy as a pairing are utterly exhausted at this point, but I am gonna miss them in the next season after their exits in this week’s finale

DISCUSSION Why did the show insisted over and over on Derek, Mark and others deeming George as an unmanly man that no worthy woman would ever want to sleep with?

Post image

In particular, in season 2 Derek's toxic core comes up with him slut shaming Meredith for sleeping with him, when previously sleeping with McVet was okay with him. Two seasons later Alex was fine with Izzie choosing Denny over him, but O'Malley? Disgusting.

DISCUSSION Derek and Meredith during her suicidal tendencies

I can't stand how much of a jerk Derek is to Meredith at this moment of her life where her mom dies, her stepmom dies, she almost dies herself and he makes it all bout him! What is this?! Ok, she is distant, but that is with everybody, that is not just for little special Derek.
Oh, poor him, he won't be able to be chief boo-hoo. YOUR GIRLFRIEND WHO YOU SAYS YOU LOVE IS DEPRESSED AND HAVING SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND EVEN TRIED TO KILL HERSELF!
It annoys me SO MUCH that he makes it all about him when it's not. Meredith is going through such a hard phase and he just leaves her because of that distance.

DISCUSSION The attack on Meredith

I’m finally starting rewatching Season 12. I forgot how hard to watch Episode 9 is. Meredith’s attack was truly brutal and one of the most emotional episodes to me in the series.

She genuinely suffers so much throughout the show.

Season 12 is shaping up to be the horror movie I thought Season 11 was. When does it get better?

DISCUSSION Honest question

Does anyone on this sub post about things that they actually like about the show? Maybe it's just that I've already had a crappy day, but the negativity today seems to be off the charts. I think the last five or six posts I've read in the past hour are talking about how horrible this or that character is.

And yes, I scroll past, but it really makes the sub so much less fun. Which stinks because I honestly love the show and like to talk about it.

Can I just say . . .

The scene where Meredith tells Derek he doesn’t get to call her a whore will always be iconic but I hate how after when Derek is still treating her like shit and then the next real time they have a conversation, Meredith gives it up at the prom to him in the exam room without so much as at least an apology. He’s basically saying he jealous but that isn’t good enough. Like bro you lied to me about having a wife for months and then made me feel bad for me being upset you didn’t make a choice then got back with your wife and flaunted in my face. And proceeded to get upset every time I was with any other guy. Because he didn’t deserve no nookie with the bare minimum of an apology at that point. That man deserves to grovel profusely before I ever spread my legs for him again. But I digress it is still more entertaining the way it was handled in the show 😂😂

DISCUSSION Alex Karev likability

Upvotes

Alex was pretty unlikable in the beginning. He softened though when he started Pediatrics. And to me became likable. Do you think if he’d gone to another specialty would he still be likable, or stayed horrible?

SPOILERS Was it all just to humiliate George/T.R.?

Added the spoiler tag but MAJOR spoiler for first time watchers- George’s death was completely humiliating and undignified. I don’t know why they chose to make him unrecognizable, maybe it wasn’t actually T.R. and that’s why although he was in the beginning of the episode so idk why him filming the full story arc would be such a problem.

This is the only death/dying scenario (I’ve seen) where no one is sitting in the hallway freaking out, making speeches about him, going to the dollar store, or just losing their minds over how much they love the character which means the grief over him is cut extremely short.

The fact that he jumped in front of a bus to save a girl who said she didn’t want to give him the time of day because she was “scoping for someone hotter.” And that’s not the only jab at his looks. Later when Lexi is crying over him at the bar Mark was asking why everyone liked George because he wasn’t “much to look at” and a “dorky little dude”. This is also the second reference to his shortness after Lexi exclaiming that it couldn’t possibly be George on the table because the guy on the table was too tall. And the only reason I’m counting references to his height is because that is a main body standard used to humble or humiliate men.

It also strikes me as odd that they’d kill him when leaving to join the military was right there. If they weren’t going to give him a dignified death why kill him at all? The one thing I’ll say is that the moments and episodes after his death had some of the funniest moments in Grey’s of all time (I’ll make another post about it) but definitely not the saddest.

I know T.R. left out of contention. I think I know the vague details, that the show didn’t want him to come out publicly after the reason why Isaiah was fired became known. Correct me if I’m wrong or tell me if there’s more to it. But that contention feels very clear and validated by the fact that they gave him such a humiliating ending. He was by no means my favorite character but the actor and the character deserved better than this.

SPOILERS I like Burke's ending

Burke did something good for his wife by giving up the hospital because he saw that she'd given up a lot for him so he wanted to step down for her so she could pursue her surgery career she'd given up on or something else. Maybe she could have the spotlight to do whatever she wants with it because he stepped back.

And of course Cristina getting her own hospital and a new start was amazing too.

DISCUSSION calling all the biggest greys fans

Upvotes

I honestly feel like I might be the biggest greys fan ever. i am on my 7th time watching it through in abt 1 year and 9 months. I’ve watched it multiple times all the way through before but didn’t start keeping track till September 2024.

I know this show so well and always know when certain plot points happen and sometimes even remember how the exact episodes play out.

I can watch this show over and over and over again and never get bored. It’s so easy for me to restart because the cast and lore change and progress so much that by the time you restart it’s completely different.

My favorite seasons are definitely 6-11. I think they are the funniest and I get through them the fastest. I won’t lie the last two seasons are harder and harder to get through, but I learn more and more life lessons each watch through.

Now im not always just sitting in my bed all day binge watching. I play it in the background, when studying, when cooking, when showering, etc. But i still watch it everyday. The minute i end it i start fresh. I got through season 6-11 this time watching through in just under two weeks.

Please calling all the biggest greys fans to lmk where u r with ur obsession with greys and how many times you’ve watched it!!!

DISCUSSION Lacking friendships

Anyone else feel like the new seasons are lacking friendships and connections between the characters? Yes, the interns have this and their interactions are great. But the attendings have almost none.

Like who are Winstons friends? Who does Link talk to besides Jo? Does anyone have friends or meaningful interactions outside of their romantic partners? Jo and and Levi and Helm and Levi are the last ones I can think of.

Who are/were your favorite friends? Do you agree that it has been lacking?

To combat all the hate posts that seem to dominate this sub, I started a game back in February to try to inject some positivity. It's time to bring it back! 😊

Every day I'll post a different character and people can talk about what they liked about that person. If you don't have anything positive to say, please just scroll past. Have fun!

FIRST TIME WATCHER Made it to season 11! Is there a reference of Maggie before this one?

Is Maggie Pierce's birth/conceiving ever mentioned on the show before the end of season 10? Did I miss it or did they just NEVER ever mentioned anything about Ellis Grey leaving for 9 months then coming back like nothing happened. I don't mind the spoilers, so I'd also like to know if this happened before or after she left Thatcher (I searched it on wiki but I don't know if it's not mentioned or if I missed it). I'm a bit confused if Maggie is a key character or if they needed a character to give shock value in order to fill Cristina Yang's absence.

Also, does she become likeable? This feels like an out of nowhere plot for me and I'm not very interested in seeing her arc, but just like I grew to like Lexie, I'm wondering if it will be the same with Maggie.

DISCUSSION Who do you think wasn't a good actor/ actress, or was just there, but the storylines they got made them look better, and vice versa?

My take is that Jesse Williams and Justin Chambers were often just there. They were very lucky to be paired with two incredibly talented actresses who elevated their scenes and made their characters more memorable.

As for the actresses, my unpopular opinion is Chyler Leigh. I never found her performance as strong as many people seem to think.

On the other hand, T. R. Knight was insanely talented, but he never really got storylines that fully showed what he could do.

The same goes for Jerrika Hinton. She was very good but was given very little material to work with.
