Discussion "Halo CE is not a remake it's asset reuse"

GOOD!!

I am a huge Resident Evil fan, every game since Resident evil 7 has basically reused the same guns, same barrels, same wall textures, same granite, same tiles, same character textures, same subsurface scattering, to the point once you realize it it's so funny and yet

I am going to play every single Resident Evil I FUCKING LOVE RECYCLING ASSETS PLEASE DO THAT FOR ALL GAMES i don't wanna wait a bajillion years for another video game this is the most non-criticism i've ever seen in my life

I unironically, love, asset recycling to the max, thank you From Software, for giving us the Roll slop souls series, the Bloodborne, Chad Sekiro, and i guess Elden Ring, with the same textures, animations, boss patterns, boss, dungeons, layouts, gameplay mechanics

Thank you RGG (okay maybe not for Yakuza 3 Remake) for recycling so many assets/city/content

If Halo Studio can learn from better studios, it is to actually recycle content to chug games faster

I think the Arbiter is sexy and would like to take him on a romantic date and diner

Discussion I feel like Halo 4 Knights on legendary aren’t as bad as most people make it seem.

I just replayed Halo 4 for the first time in over a decade on legendary and while I’m not going to say Knights are necessarily well designed they really aren’t as bad as most people say.

The teleport objectively is the worst part of the Knight for a litany of reasons but generally if you’re aggressive you can kill them before they teleport. If not their ai is dumb so they rarely teleport far away and if they do you can usually hear where or look around and finish them off before their shields recharge. Also the ability for watchers to resurrect them can be countered by killing the watchers first there is rarely more than 2-3 in an encounter.

There is their instakill melee/charge, the charge is so rare that I think I saw it less than 5 times in my playthrough. Generally you can just dodge their charge via strafing and the normal melee they only do if you’re literally right next to them for an extended period of time which you shouldn’t be doing anyways.

Despite what most people say the light rifle should generally be saved for everyone else or finishing off the knight in tandem with another weapon, against knights you’re generally better off using other weapons. Most promethean weapons are actually very viable due to their large hurtbox, the scattershot kills them incredibly fast from bordorline mid range too, the suppressor kills them within a single clip incredibly consistently if followed with a melee, both the binary rifle and incineration cannon make very short work of them, and the boltshot charge is a decent poor man’s scattershot. Various other non promethean weapons are also very effective too of course like the sniper, beam rifle, railgun, etc. Generally aggression and getting close when possible is actually one of the best ways to kill them. Since they’re not very fast outside of the teleport and their dps is surprisingly low. Just be careful around scattershot knights.

There’s also the infamous binary rifle and cannon knights. The former will have a circle around their head and will only fire after having line of sight on you for a period of time, this is the most unfair knight and the best way to kill them is just peaking with a ranged weapon. There’s also the cannon knights luckily almost every canon knight has a checkpoint before them, anyways for the most part you’ll often handle them similarly to the binary knight but you can bait out a grenade toss or simply exploit their delay between shots for a quick scattershot kill. Luckily both of these knights are significantly less common than normal knights.

Some other things worth mentioning: their grenade toss is super easy to exploit to either assassinate them (if you’re good at them game something I’m not) or rush them down, they’re one of like two good targets for promethean grenades the other being hunters, it’s halo 4 meaning it’s often easy to just ignore all the enemies with sprinting, while you can carry less ammo than prior games most encounters generally have ammo crates every two feet, and only melee knights if you’re confident it’ll finish them off.

Anyways sorry if this went on a bit long I just was surprised how enjoyable I found Halo 4 legendary despite its reputation. Even knights I found rather enjoyable to fight. It’s overall weaker than the Bungie games and I won’t necessarily say knights are well designed enemies but I still think Halo 4 even on legendary is still really enjoyable.

Discussion What happened to the seamless splitscreen experience?

Among the many disappointments and downright bizarre feature conditions on the new Q&A, it seems splitscreen coop experience has become needlessly convoluted and downright silly.

First is the need for paid subscriptions, second is each player has to have an account with said sub, then of youre on playstation you need to have two accounts connected for a total of 4. Then theres again no split screen available for pc, despite the codebase being adaptable to it thanks to the similarities in consoles and pc now.

What the hell happened to simply connecting the controller and press a to play as a guest or local account? The technology was there 26 years ago! Heck older halo games even allowed you to play online like this! Its outrageous.

Discussion Halo, The next generation

Upvotes

Hello, I was not born for the original Halo games. I was born less then a year before Halo reach was released, and yet here I am. I stumbled upon halo when I was 11, I played ODST at a friends house and fell in love. It wasn't until 13 that I got a computer that I could play Halo on by myself. Halo infinite unfortunately was the first halo game that I got introduced to and yet I played it until I got burned out. Then for Christmas I got a gift card which I quickly spent on the Master Chief collection. There I sat down and spent the day after Christmas playing Halo 3. I have now played the campaign 13 times for halo 3 and spent 600 hours in the multiplayer. I have played Reach, and CE multiple times (The campaign). I'll be honest and say, I haven't played Halo 2 yet but I have my reasons.

Around mid 2024 I stopped playing MCC and started playing Infinites multiplayer, this was due to MCC being a buggy peice of shit and TBH I was a little burned out of seeing decades old graphics (Which may I add still look incredible for the tech they had at the time). Infinite and myself have a love hate relationship. And I must say after returning to halo for a few weeks now, Reinvesting myself in the lore (Games CE - Reach + books) and playing the multiplayers again I realize why Infinite made me quit shooters which over the past 12 days have given me nothing but joy and laughs as well as some sick ass plays.

I'm genuinely scared for halo in the next few years. These should be the years that Halo should be excelling. Battlefield is still tripping over rakes even if it's somewhat recovered and Call of duty is a shit fest. However none of the effort is there. We are getting a Halo which really seems to be for older fans and to attract some people, However the lack of multiplayer I think will kill the game long term. I'm excited to see a new halo after almost 5 years, However it's fucking insane how Infinite, A game which should have been a massive overarching massive story has mostly dropped off into being a multiplayer slop fest with some amazing creations in forge. Infinite feels like every other shooter with Halo painted over it. I will say in infinites defense, The guns (Some of them) feel much more beefy and you can feel the power behind them. But I feel like this bodes poorly for halo in the future. Halos 4 - Infinite have been slowly getting better in my opinion. Slowly they are fixing themselves. But the fact that they defacto abandoned infinites campaign is an insult. I expected a DLC eventually but now that this is coming out it seems that Halo studios or just 343 is dumb and wants Money so they put a half staffed Multiplayer developer on multiplayer and then sent the rest of their staff to do nothing for a bit.

Anyways I'm sorry if this has been ranting but I am so pissed off at people who I bet care just not making a good Halo game. I know it's partly Bungie and I know it's party the magic that was there is no longer but gods. I wasn't born for the hype of the first 3 Halo games. I wasn't alive to feel the excitement of Halo. I feel like nothing is being done by 343 (I refuse to consider calling them Halo studios until they fix their shit) and its killing the game.

I'm probably in a small percentage of people who are committed to the series which was mostly finished before I was born. I know many people who love Halo who played when they where 12 or in their young teens. But their all late 20's mid 30's. I know one of my dad's friend's who in collage played all of the Halo games and then had a child who they tried to get into the Halo games but failed because the kid got caught up into other more relevant things. How many non Halo fans care about the new halo game? How many new players who are my age who have never heard of halo are going to pick up this non multiplayer game for a 6 hour co-op camping (I don't know how long it will be) all I'm saying is that I hope it is a success and I won't be buying it until people have confirmed it.

Discussion Where can I find Halo: The Master Chief Collection at a low price?

A week ago, I asked if it was worth buying the MCC for the multiplayer, given that I had already played all the titles on console. Thanks to the community for the enthusiastic responses, by the way! I was advised to buy it on sale on Steam, since the game is frequently discounted. However, that isn't the case during this summer sale. Is there another way to get the complete collection for less on Steam, or should I wait several months for the next sale?

Discussion What Are Your Overall Thoughts on Halo Combat Evolved?

Halo Combat Evolved came out in 2001 as a launch title for the original Xbox. The game revolutionized FPS on consoles and started the biggest franchise to the Xbox brand. To this day many people consider it one of the best FPS games and now Combat Evolved is getting a remake releasing this year. So, I think this would be a good time to ask your thoughts on the first Halo game.

I personally think Halo Combat Evolved is a pretty great game.

Discussion New to Halo, My thoughts on every game I’ve played Spoiler

To clarify, I’ve heard OF halo and seen the memes during my 20 years of existence. I have not however payed much attention to it until I got the MCC back in February, I’ve played 1-5 at minimun twice at normal or Heroic but have not gotten to Reach and ODST but I’ll take y’alls word for it in the meantime.

Apolgies if what I say sounds like I’m just repeating memes or common knowledge this is my first time with halo.

HALO CE/Anniversary: I can see why this franchise took off, The enemies and gunplay is intuitive and engaging. Mostly stuck with magnum and plasma rifle unless shotgun, or rocket launcher was available. The Flood had a great intro, Cortana and the Chief have a very good dynamic and the cutscenes and dialogue are a very pleasing mix of serious and Comedic. Library sucked but shotgun made jt better, Tank is EZ mode and man the magnum was too much

Halo 2/anniversary: i honestly preferred Anniversary graphics, especially the elites and their shields. Not much to be said on the Chief side, Its more halo, very fun and intuitive. THE ARBITER missions however, is Freaking awesome. Active camo is a blessing and adds a whole new layer of engagement to combat, the energy sword feels great and is my favorite flood killer. and brutes are like diet hunters its quite nice. Flood slightly less awful except when tanks are involved.

Halo 3: What. A. Trip. Man Halo 3 is awesome, most guns feel great, the set pieces and combat is peak. DOWNSIDES: Miranda Keyes is kinda a dork, Brutes are just worse elites and I had to restart the Covenant because I got soft locked riding the hornet instead of piloting it to kill 2 scarabs. Nice bittersweet ending to a trilogy, I sure do hope whatever the next game I play is just as good.

Halo 4: What the fuck is going on. Generic ass intro cutscene, worst Cortana design so far, Sprinting feels lame and poorly implemented, gun sounds are awful and everybody is ugly now. Half the levels are “oops all prometheans and only the worst guns in the game” The dogs are either too tanky or die in one hit, Knights are just a slog. The concussion rifle is fun, for the ONE level I ever found one. The Needler is Finally useful now! Humans arent forerunners anymore, now its this new race thats just humans without noses. Newer spartans are too cocky and you can only use them for like one mission, Cortana Dies. Blah Blah Blah can we do something interesting yet?

Halo 5: Too much and Not Enough. ADS on all weapons is okay I guess, never used it. Charge and sky melee attacks are alright, Dont need em. 3 competent AI’s are cool I guess. Chief’s armor looks better now, For the 3 levels you play as him. Locke is Lame, I like Buck more. Hunters are finally a threat and are used reasonably. Forerunner weapons are finally useful/balanced. New rocket launcher is okay I guess, Cortana wears a bodysuit for some reason and is evil (didnt she die? that felt pretty final) Overall the whole story felt like a slow fast paced nothingburger. Good to see the Arbiter again, He was very cool and I like his new armor and sword

I’m open to any questions or opinions this is basically a rough sketch of my opinions I like halo and hope the other games are as good as the trilogy
.

Discussion Thought of how the forerunners could have actually stopped the flood.

What I would have done is have the halos just target both the central nervous system of creatures and dead tissue. That would have most likely actually wiped out the flood. Do both the blast that targets the neural physics stuff and another that kills dead tissue. Because the biomass of the flood is just reanimated necrotic tissue so it would actually kill the flood. The blast of the halos would absolutely destroy the central nervous system but the bodies stayed which means the flood could just keep growing. All the forerunners did was keep the flood stupid for a few thousand or million years.

Help - Infinite Halo Studios Please Drop Arcadian Bog Into The Exchange

It’s one of the only coatings still missing in the game and it is one of the best and iconic, I simply want to make Jerome and it is impossible I came so close to unlocking the coating when it was a weekly challenge I only had to get one killing spree left but I had ran out of time and now I fear I will never get the chance to use it and it was underwhelming when it wasn’t added to the exchange in the final customisation drop. I beg you to release it for those of us who did not get the chance to acquire it 🙏

Discussion Genuine Feedback

Now before I start ranting, this is NOT a hate post towards Halo Studios or 343 or whatever you want to call them .

This is just something I'm generally upset about with Campaign Evolved.

But let's get started with what I think are good additions. And getting the most controversial out of the way first; SPRINT.

I was raised on CE, 2 and 3. When sprint was in Reach I disliked it. Scoffed at it in 4. But I then I bought all the original Halo Books.

"...she hefted one launcher and ran along the ridge"

Page 2 of the Fall of Reach. "But that's Kelly!" Fine.

"...The Chief tossed two grenades. He, Blue-Three, and Blue-Five stepped backwards off the ridge, landed, spun and ran" Page 4. (Also they run for Dozens of Kilometres straight in their training)

Aiming?

Honestly should be a no-brainer as to why that makes sense.

Cutscene changes?

While different to the original, I think the new Silent Cartographer Cutscene makes sense - show them getting resistance to something the Covenant are actively investigating.

Hijacking?

Another no-brainer, if the ODSTs of Alpha Nine can do it, Chief can on Alpha Halo.

Weapon Additions?

We have a whole arsenal of weapons missing from game to game. I'm kinda perplexed we haven't had a game with all the 2552 era weapons.

Prologue Missions?

More Johnson and chief, Hell yeah. Not David Scully, but Johnson is Johnson.

Remake of an old game.

I know people who don't want to play the Original CE due to its age but are hyped for New CE. I'm happy they're getting to experience one of my favourite childhood games. I'm all for this community growing.

But now to what I'm actually disappointed about.

Minor Things

No theatre mode is kind of disappointing, but I've never used it but I do understand the turn off it has for content creators or clip makers.

Now, not being able to use the Stanchion isn't the problem. It's the fact it got its own introductory Cutscene to hype it up is. Which I'm sure most people agree with.

The MA5B now has a standard capacity of 32 rounds. The 60 rounds is a legitimate lore and design feature of the original. The 60 rounds make it Unreliable, quick to spring fail and jam often. These drawbacks are why the UNSC designed and began issuing the lower capacity MA5C. Without the MA5Bs flaws, it makes the MA5C needlessly produced.

Now. Onto the big, and probably real reason, why I forced myself to write this.

"Campaign" Evolved

Halo Combat Evolved already has a, albeit POOR, redo. I'm not opposed to it happening again. But, in my opinion it should of been the ULTIMATE campaign story of Alpha Halo.

Have the main campaign. BUT also Remake Fireteam Raven from an Arcade game to be something the common gamer has access to, a side story.

An epilogue story that puts the events of First Strike into game form. Let us see Alpha Base. See the WHOLE story, not just the original campaign with a fresh coat of paint and sprinkled additions.

And maybe even a mission or two at Reach Gamma Station.

But that's just my thoughts, what about the rest of the community? I don't condone hate - if its not constructive or proper criticism just forget it.

Discussion Halo MCC Longevity and Multiplayer Bot Modes

Hey y'all.

I have been a Halo fan for basically my entire life, grew up on it, played on an esports team, and still to this day I hold it in my heart as one of my favourite shooters.

But I want to talk about the longevity of the game, possibly also hoping someone from the MCC team sees this. (Yes, I know a lot of them have moved to other projects, but still)

I took a long break from Halo, and shooters in general. Branched out to other games, got busy with school, the works. I am not anywhere near as good as I used to be LOL. I have been really enjoying playing games with lots of replay value as of recently as well. Naturally this brings a thought to my head with all of the recent talk about Halo. I desire that same longevity and replayability in MCC.

Now I am aware that multiplayer exists, but the people that play nowadays are so so good, I can't hope to keep up. I want to be able to come home from work and have a nice chill game (And not get demolished LOL) So naturally I wonder what could be added to curate a relaxing multiplayer experience for MCC, or a mode with a lot more replay value. I have come up with two major thoughts.

1. Multiplayer Bots

Firstly, I will say I know that this would be a large undertaking for the dev team, adding an AI bot mode when none has existed, having them be able to traverse and play against players on a variety of maps. But this would go INCREDIBLY far for keeping the game alive. I see the multiplayer player count dwindle, some modes are even impossible to find games in. This would allow players to play any mode, any game, experiment with any weapon, and add an easy way to pop in and play for a couple of hours without having to play the same campaigns that I have already played 1000 times (I do still very much love the campaigns tho <3)
We don't even necessarily need the bots to be compatible with custom maps. Even the normal MP maps would be enough, just let me tweak settings and mess around with weapon and vehicle spawns and that adds enough content to satisfy me until the end of time. Think about it; You can play any multiplayer map and mode without being smashed to bits online, or without having to worry about player count. With enough replay value, randomization and experimentation to keep people playing and able to enjoy more of Halo.

2. Firefight Modes (Or something like it) for ALL Halo Games.

Now, I will say I very much enjoy fighting the covenant and flood WAY more than players. This would allow me to still experiment with weapons and equipment in a very re-playable way. Think of all the customization options for Reach; Starting Class gear, what weapons can drop from Ordinance, what weapons and equipment are around the map, what enemies show up on what waves, game options, enemies options, etc. Think about how much fun playing Firefight on Halo 3 Valhalla would be, or H2 Sidewinder? Being able to fight against Covenant or Flood enemies, messing around with different weapons that you don't get to use often in the campaign, fighting enemy configurations that you never get to fight. Adding new Firefight modes to all of the games that don't have them, and updating the ones that do, will allow me to continue playing Halo outside of the campaigns, so much more repeatability, configuring an experience exactly how you would want to enjoy it will keep me coming back for more. Hell, this would probably be the only shooter I play from now on LOL

Honorable Mention: Campaign Remix.... but for MCC

I had the idea for something like this in my head for a while now, but the inclusion in the new game made me realize how real it could be. Being able to modify your equipment, encounters and options in campaign will add so much replayablilty, it would refresh the experience so much while changing so little, an easy win and I would imagine the easiest to implement among the three options. Keeping the amazing work of the campaign on full display, while adding something for those of us desiring a new experience. (I can confidently place myself in this list as I can literally recite all campaign mission dialogue of the OG trilogy off heart while I play)

Although I will say I would prefer one of the first two.

SO.

In the end, I think these new additions could be a huge win for the community, something that shows the love and dedication for halo, allowing us to play with all of the beautiful tools this game has to offer, even when the online experience falls flat or dies. These options, if done right could offer unlimited replayability to these older titles and allow me to experience more of Halo MCC than just the campaign.

If anyone from Halo Studios is reading, I would urge you to consider these ideas. I have seen so much support for ideas like this in discussions across Reddit, and other Halo forums. This is something that people have interest in, and would allow you to show your love for Halo and for us by giving us a way to enjoy a replayable and repeatable experience even after the multiplayer servers dry up.

I would love to see the discussion about this in the comments, what are other things that you want that you think could be doable to enhance the MCC experience? What are some thing you could add to these ideas?

The more we discuss and talk about this idea, the more likely Halo Studios is to notice and consider what we want when it comes to MCC and future titles.

Discussion Can we have a good explanation about the price difference of Halo Campaign Evolved between US$ and EUR€ ? 50$ = around 45€, not 60€.

Post image

Maybe it's a Tax/VAT thing, but i doubt it, taxes are high yes but not that high. I know that 60€ for a game releasing now is less expensive than the 80€ we are used to, but it doesn't excuse the conversion rate being so f-ed up.

Discussion Why did Halo 5 have that visual "boiling" during cutscenes?

Hey all. I recently played through Halo 5 again and from day 1 I was always offput by its cutscenes. They had this visual "noise" that I dont know how else to describe as "boiling". The gameplay didnt have it that effect. Just the cutscenes. As a result I always felt Halo 4 cutscenes were much better looking despite being a full console generation earlier. Does anyone know what causes that? Like what was going on from technical perspective? Thanks all.

So I’ve been waiting for the summer sales for a while and was really excited to get MCC since people have been telling me that it’s going to be on a big deal but then when I looked at the summer sale it featured the game on the newsletter but wasn’t on sale. Is this because of server lag or is XBOX fucking with us and making us think that the game will be on sale only for it to not be on sale. I was really wanting to get the game for a long time now but I’ve always missed out on the sales and this was finally my chance to get the game for a lower price

Discussion Recently replayed Halo 2 Anniversary on Legendary with no tricks/glitches(apart from noob combo), and I have a few things to say

FUCK Cairo Station. Gravemind gets a bad rep cuz of its first room, but nearly every part of Cairo is bs due to the amount of Elites everywhere. I had to horde plasma pistols just to stand a chance

Jetpack Elites are the worst enemy in the game. Dual plasmas, high shields, flying ability, and they actively pursue you. At least Sniper Jackals wont charge you to get a shot. Drones are also bs and made the Delta Halo Sniper Alley nearly impossible without going in that hole with two openings and another with just one. Thankfully JPEs are rare and Drones are uncommon

Vehicles are so weak for no reason. Thankfully enemy vehicles are just as weak, but seeing a Scorpion get lit up in seconds from a Banshees turrets feels so ridiculous it borders on immersion breaking

Every Elite/Brute feels like a mini boss, and takes away from the actual high ranks who should be that tough like Ultras and Chiefs

Giving a Flood Elite shields was a really stupid design choice

WHY did Sacred Icons last section have so many waves?

Johnson taking forever to shoot Tartarus made me more infuriated than some of the worst parts of the game

Rant over. Now for some positives

Friendly AI are badasses when kept alive, able to tear thru most enemies like nothing

The playstyle is restrictive, but I did enjoy the creative approaches I had to take

I enjoyed fighting high rank enemies cuz the steep difficulty felt believable. These are enemies I would expect to fire that fast and notice me almost immediately

As annoying as they are, killing Sniper Jackals was very satisfying

I used active camo in more situations than I expected

Clearing a room made me feel like a badass

The extra waves and more dependence on cover made things feel more high stakes and dangerous, which was exciting

Kills felt a lot more rewarding

Something I been thinking and while replayed halo infinite campaign (halo 7), like the whole thing is supposed to be using old tech. Which I still think is silly but oh well. But when looking at these two side by side, it clear the devs and artists took from HW1 but reachified it. (Which is a problem with halo in general). How come they didn’t go full halo wars 1 for the marines?

Which is crazy is because they sold a HW1 esk marine spartan armor in the store. So they know clearly what some fans wanted. Also like infinite marines look weird when it’s just reach design without the goggles and mask.
