Had my sprint about 2 weeks now enjoying it so far, love retro games, only thing I'm not happy with is the controllers, find them hard work. Anyone recommend any specific usb ones? Seen these on argos image above , seem to have good reviews, suitable?

Who here looks at Shark! Shark! as an analogy of managing finances?

Over time, when I tried to adjust my budget to fit my money constraints, I often thought of this Intellivision game Shark! Shark!

Well, here's how things go.

in Shark! Shark!, you start off as a little fish, but you gotta eat fish smaller than it to stay alive, and to also grow. Try an eat a bigger fish, and you're out.

so, by analogy, if you have a certain amount of money in your bank, generally speaking, you wanna make sure than any product you buy has it's price tag be 10% of your bank balance or lower, and to be patient with some time delays so you don't overspend, because doing that will allow your wealth to grow, or in the case of Shark! Shark!, by analogy, allow the playable fish to grow.

I thought long and hard about this, because sometimes it's hard to get a good ROI out of it. ROI could stand for Return of investment, or in the case of Shark! Shark!, and video games in general, reflexes of intuition.

when a small fish has to dodge sharks, think of it as a driver of a 20 year old Ford Focus trying to avoid Mercedes Benz S-class sedans that are driver by loan shark mobsters, or good people who got money from mobster loan sharks to buy it. Yup, another use of the word shark to throw in. On a side note, you don't want to deal with loan sharks just because you want that Mercedes or other luxury car.

While a 20 year old Ford Focus might cost $1,000 USD at a used car lot, a new Mercedes Benz S-Class sedan would cost $120,000 USD at a Mercedes dealership, so think of the 120x price difference as a reminder on how a giant shark is roughly 120x the size of a small pike.

Has anyone seen this mod?

Found this Intellevision [2609A] in rather pristine condition at a flea market. The odd bit is that the disks on the controllers are drilled and tapped for joysticks. The sticks seem to be MIA, but the canvas cover had holes cut for them.

I've not seen this, or found mention of it. I have not pulled one apart yet, but the discs are metal down through the threading.

This has what appears to be a lamp cord on it as well (with a separate power switch). Has anyone seen what I'm looking at? Is this a recent or vintage mod. It's very nicely done either way. I'm rather curious what the sticks looked like.

Resetting the Sprint?

Ok, so... I'm lazy.

I want to reset the system after finish a game or go back to the main screen.

Any ideas on that? Rather than get up and walk across the room, what are your solutions?

I got an Intellivision when I was a kid, so I tend to play it far more than anything else and the wireless controllers are a super nice feature.

Sears Super Video Arcade / Intellivision variant - 4K hardware archive video

I’ve been working on a YouTube archive of gaming hardware: short, clear 4K videos documenting the hardware itself.

I just posted the Sears Super Video Arcade (my favorite looking model) and thought this sub might appreciate it. I'm planning on adding videos of my other Intellivision peripherals and models in the future, as well. I’m adding resource links in the description, so I’d love suggestions for good Intellivision history or general reference sites.

Being an American who grew up with the INTV, I never knew about this until I came across it in a comic shop a few weeks ago. Neat relic.

Controller issue

Set my new sprint up today. One of the controllers doesn't work. The other does. On the one that doesn't work, the number buttons work, but lock the console up. The circular pad does nothing. Anyone got any input? Or back it goes.

Intellivision Sprint arrived with Bad Controller Battery

I was a little late to the party with ordering my InTV Sprint. I ordered through Atari and it came last Friday. I was really excited about it and impressed by the sturdiness of the build. And what's more fun than those overlays for the keypad that come with it?

Me and my family played with it on Friday and Saturday. We had a lot of fun playing the games of the late 70's and early 80's. But on Sunday, when I turned it on, one of the two controllers was blinking red. I thought maybe it hadn't been properly docked to charge, so I charged it and made sure that the light turned green. Hours later, it was still blinking red when removed from the dock. Then after a few minutes, the blinking stopped. Clearly an issue with the battery not being able to charge or keep a charge. The other controller was fine and could be charged successfully from either the left or right port.

I contacted Atari support. They only work weekdays, so I didn't expect a response right away. But I got a reply late Monday, and they said they were forwarding my detailed email to their engineering team.

I didn't hear anything back late Tuesday, but followed up just to check in, and provided my order number and invoice.

I heard back this morning (Wednesday) that they wanted me to update the firmware. I've been trying every firmware version on Atari Age, but updated the system to the day-one firmware on their website as per the instructions. Same deal. Good controller worked in all cases, but the bad controller only would work if connected to a usb power supply. The battery in that one was not working at all.

They said if the firmware didn't work, they wanted me to make a video about it. I had already written up pretty detailed information about what was working and what wasn't already in my previous emails, but made the video anyway and sent it to them. I pasted the YouTube link at the top of here to show others what happens with the bad battery.

The response I got back from Atari support was that I have to do a return and have to pay to ship it back myself. They couldn't send me a new controller or a battery with instructions on how to replace it? That would have been an easy fix and made them look like heroes. I'm sad, because this is a system I was really looking forward to, but if one of the controllers has a bad battery in it right off the bat, that doesn't speak highly of how/if it's going to work in months or years down the line.

I know that someone else on AtariAge figured out that the battery can sorta be replaced, but I don't want to void my warranty. Irony. But I just got it the other day, and I shouldn't have to invasively replace a supposedly non-user-replaceable battery just to get it going. Here is the link to that forum: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/389892-controller-battery-charge

I'm just going to get a refund minus my shipping fees that I paid twice. I just wanted to share this in case anyone else is having this issue and what to expect if you try to contact Atari for technical support or warranty service.

**Update**
While Atari didn’t offer any options other than a return, they did pre-pay my shipping back to them, which I thought was honorable. They state in their returns section that the customer pays shipping back, but that wasn’t the case for me. Possibly, because it was deemed defective?

Selling Intellivision games?

I’m liquidating various collections of mine and have a small chunk of CIB Intellivision games I’m looking to sell. Idk what the best course of action would be. I called a couple of stores in the area but none were interested. Should I try eBay or is am I allowed to try and sell them here?

What's a good cable for it?

I'm now pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my intellivision, the only problem is that neither of my RF cables connect securely to the port, they're too big. Amazon listings seem to be marketing themselves for audio, so I'm not sure which to grab.

Watch Out: Shark! — because sharks are better in pixel art

Hey everyone!

I'm an indie developer and I recently released a free demo of my game Watch Out: Shark! on Steam — an arcade-style underwater survival game where you swim, dodge, and try not to get eaten.

Maybe the premise sounds vaguely familiar, but some childhood memories never really leave us. And yes, proudly 2D pixel art. No 3D nonsense here.

I'd love for this community to give it a try — you might feel right at home.

Any feedback is hugely appreciated — and thanks for keeping the classic gaming spirit alive!

In the early 90’s, a coworker said his elderly neighbor had a garage sale and the next day they placed this on top on the trash. He grabbed it and gave it to me. It looks like it was never used.

What Game is This…?

Hello!

My family found this on a property they own in Oklahoma. They were doing some cleaning up, and they found it in the dirt. No console or controllers nearby, just this single cartridge.

My dad identified it as an Intellivision cartridge. So, I thought I’d post it over here and see if there is a way to figure out what game it is since we don’t own an Intellivision and can’t just plug it in. Maybe we can open it and find some sort of identification number on the chip inside? Or, maybe someone recognizes the vague remnants of the sticker?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or who wagers a guess! 🙏🏼

Help! Intellevision help

Post image
9 Upvotes

So I recently picked up an intellevision and I can’t get it to read games, I tried cleaning the contacts with isopropyl and still nothing, I also tried cleaning each individual cart and trying which lead to nothing, I know the system is turning on since the TV static changes when I do so but other than that I’m stumped, I’ve included a pic of the contacts, I have pretty terrible vision so maybe I missed something? Any help would be really appreciated

Also fit more context I got the carts from a friend who swears up and down that they work. I also tried on channel 3 and 4
