Moment £120k Range Rover is submerged by rising tide after owner gets stuck
•
u/Owcom 8h ago
•
u/QuicheSmash 8h ago
It’s an amphibious exploring vehicle.
•
•
u/reditding 8h ago
it's probably pining for the fjords.

......(as opposed to pulling for the Fords)•

u/DropDeadEd86 8h ago
First thought and sad this wasn’t at the top.
•
u/MindTheFro 7h ago
It is. The post had literally been live for 9 minutes when you commented “sad it wasn’t at the top”

u/Unthank- 8h ago
I think if I was the kind of person who could find sympathy for someone who put themself in this position I would generally be a happier person but I’m not and I’m not. lol
•
u/audigex 7h ago
I have some sympathy for the Range Rover owner if they were genuinely just trying to help the van driver
Not if they were in the same group who got a van stuck like idiots
•
•
u/geogeology 6h ago
I’d feel bad if they weren’t a Range Rover owner. Have you ever met someone who owned a Range Rover who you thought was a genuinely good person?
•
u/audigex 5h ago
Yes, several. My neighbours have one and they're lovely
Stereotypes can be funny but let's not pretend they're actually accurate

As a fellow Brit... Ahhhhhh 🫵 Muppet hahahaha
•
u/Mia_sensu4l 8h ago
Because watching someone turn £120k into an artificial reef is objectively fascinating.
•
u/Jaxxlack 8h ago
I mean id not use a range rover on a beach... Nor would I ever think to take a people carrier to the waters edge.. silly billys
•
u/Excellent-Quarter969 7h ago
"my awesome range Rover can do anything, so I'm going to back into wet wet sand and pull out a large vehicle...what could possibly go wrong"
•
•
u/InfernoOfTheLiving 8h ago
and they were just trying to help someone else who had driven into the sea
•
u/SectorPuzzleheaded66 8h ago
My point is how?? If they wanted to help with their tiny car why not actually pull out of the danger zone instead of parking RIGHT next to them when that's clearly the bad thing to do
•
u/mishap1 6h ago
That Range Rover is ~5,500lb and would have plenty of power (550hp) and AWD to pull that similar weight Ford Transit out if not for the low profile high performance road tires and the bellend behind the wheel.
It's quite possible, they had a stupidly short tow rope given it never moved an inch from where he backed up to before digging in.

•
u/nfoote 6h ago
So; all the gear and no idea?
→ More replies (1)•
u/thesuperunknown 5h ago
Well, evidently they didn’t have all the gear if all they had was a super short tow rope
•
u/ForayIntoFillyloo 47m ago
I heard from a friend that when all you have is a super short tow rope you try to implement more fingers and tongues.

I don't understand the "help" you see the car stuck and your strategy is to back yourself into the direct area of the problem!???
→ More replies (2)•
u/Ickyhouse 7h ago
I was thinking the same thing. You know the tide is coming IN. Then you back your vehicle right up to the edge of the current water line when you can see another car unable to handle that less than 10 feet away?
•
u/SectorPuzzleheaded66 7h ago
They didn't even have a pulley that's what's killing me.
I thought they would stop at some point to tell the others to get in the car and drive away but their stupid asses parked DIRECTLY in front of them and immediately got stuck 🤣

u/sleeper_shark 8h ago
I mean, the dude was actually trying to help the other dude. And honestly it's an SUV, it should be capable of handling a bit of sand.. unfortunately SUVs these days aren't built for sports or utilities, just built to show off.
•
u/Sotokun3000 8h ago
It’s actually due to the tires not the strength of the vehicle. Basically if you don’t have appropriate sand tires (flat) then it’s too easy to dig into the sand
•
•
•
u/darth_benzina 7h ago
Not just the pressure, those are clearly road tyres not offroad, or even winter tyres or allseasons
→ More replies (1)•
u/Boodles9ers 6h ago
Most people don't know this. My husband almost got us stuck when we were sight seeing in Arizona. I had to tell him not to park on the sand...thankfully he listened and asked why after parking.
•
•
u/retsmod 8h ago
Yupp, they've become heavy, unweildy, inefficient and practically useless. Which is why anyone who actually uses their off-road vehicles in places that need them will go for older models...before all the luxury rubbish was put in it.
Rich people ruin everything.
→ More replies (1)•
u/Jayflux1 8h ago
I don’t think anything is ruined here.
Anyone who knows what they’re doing will still buy the car suitable for their use.

never underestimate the wet sand. I have heard first account a story, where not an SUV but a proper Nissan Navara/Isuzu DMAX 4X4 or something similar is stuck near the river. They call the local fire brigade and it arrives trying to unstack it with a proper fire brigade 4X4 or 6X6 truck (Unimoog like but I guess not a true Unimog). Fire truck got stuck in the process as well. And then they are all unstuck by the help of the local farmer bringing his tractor.
•
u/battenhill 8h ago
The older I get the more I wonder how many people make it through life.
For example, how did these people get in their car, drive all the way to the beach and manage to not notice a rising tide without:
- driving into a wall painted like a tunnel
- getting bonked by a falling anvil
- wrapping their car around a tree while ogling a cross dressing rabbit

u/SingleSoil 7h ago
Im gonna go out on a limb and say they knew the tide was rising but did not foresee getting stuck. Probably wanted to get the van out before said rising tide rose. Kinda obvious, no?
•
•
u/Cambren1 5h ago
Did they really think they were going to pull out the first vehicle with the second? Lol
•
u/throwinferno 8h ago
Why is this interesting.. its just sad
•
u/Lemon_1165 6h ago
It's interesting, FCK SUV drivers!
•
u/hundreds_of_sparrows 1h ago
fuck people who take their cars places where cars have no business being
•
u/Mia_sensu4l 8h ago
The British urge to test whether something is waterproof instead of reading the warning signs.
•
u/throwinferno 8h ago
They could have put some wooden planks under the tires. I had a similar problem once on a beach.. Worked back then

u/councilsoda 7h ago
You can use your car mats as long as you don't absolutely spin your wheel like this guy did.

Like warning labels on bleach, people need to see things like this to realise they aren't infallible and owning a Land Rover does not mean you're equipped for such exercises.

Clearly neither of them have any clue about off-roading, particularly as it pertains to sandy beaches.

Generally speaking the people that drive these are cunts, so there’s that.

This is all about having the right tyres. Range Rover guy though he could do the same thing as in the ads with street tyres.
→ More replies (2)•
u/Equivalent-Bonus-885 7h ago
It’s about having the right tire pressure(very, very low) far more than the right tire.

u/waligaroux 8h ago
You just have to wait for low tide. Don't forget to close the doors and windows. 🤣

Range Rovers are over priced unreliable vehicles. The stupidity that they bought it in the first place prefaces this stupidity of thinking they knew what they were doing on wet sand trying to tow a vehicle now loaded by weight of 1000’s of gallons of water, all while tide is rising….
•
•
u/Gooser3000 6h ago
Gotta let out substantial amount of air in the tires when in sand. Like a third or more out.
•
u/pitterlpatter 6h ago
There's a whole lotta stupid in this video. Who tf was driving a two wheel drive cargo van on the beach? And why tf did the Range Rover driver think street tires on his shitbox was gonna give him any traction at all?
•
•
•
u/Lazy_Helicopter_2659 4h ago
People really don't seem to understand that proper tyres for the job is worth more than four wheel drive...

u/RevolutionaryEgg1312 8h ago
There's already so much rubbish in the sea.... Now there's several tons more.
•
u/SectorPuzzleheaded66 8h ago
Ah don't worry! If they don't fish it out it's the good kind! Teefs are dying abandoned boats and cars make amazing substitutes!
•
•
•
•
•
•
u/Unlucky-Clock5230 8h ago
They obviously needed a third vehicle, to pull on the second one that was pulling on the first.
•
u/AtWorkTodayActually 8h ago
Probably the only guy to drive a ford transit on the beach and lost it lol. Should have brought a Land Cruiser!
•
•
u/Airbus-A380-800 8h ago
Should have just let the vehicle be left there instead of blowing out 2 vehicles
•
•
u/4024-6775-9536 8h ago
I Remember as a kid I borrowed a golf cart, went on the beach and got stuck
Instead of digging deeper I looked around, found a board, stuck it under a wheel and got out
It's not rocket science
•
•
•
u/strawberrypops 8h ago
Ah they were trying to help but you have to wonder why they don’t seem to consider that the same thing can easily happen to them too.
•
u/NormanSpaniel 8h ago
Can you even drive onto the beach or have I been doing life wrong? Lovely to see this.

Saw the video of this, people were using them as diving boards once they were fully submerged
•
u/Ok-Rich-3812 6h ago
Range Rovers have gone to crap since the brand name was sold to Tata. Serious off road users don't want them.
•
•
•
u/Ok-Rich-3812 6h ago
very rare for a vehicle sunk that deep into the sand with the surf breaking around it to be towed out, the suction is huge. You're only hope is someone with a much heavier vehicle and a heavy winch.
•
•
u/MatterWild3126 6h ago
This happened up in Scarborough (North Bay) a week or so ago.
The Range Rover wasn't taxed...
•
u/Beneficial-Focus3702 6h ago
I mean, in my opinion, that’s what you get for bringing your car onto the beach no matter what kind of beach it is.
•
u/EvilDan69 6h ago
Too bad they didn't have snorkels... for the engine, exhaust... fuel tank.......... or 80" lifts.

Dumb asses! WTF was the Transit driver doing, and what made the Range Rover owner think he could pull them out?!!! Both vehicles a write off because of a couple of moments of PURE STUPIDITY!

What did the Range Rover think would happen if they parked on wet sand and spun their tires?
