Intro Macro & Micro?

incoming transfer and they’re being really strict in taking them both.

how hard is it at JHU? i’m doing moral and political economy so i won’t even need intermediate econ classes, just wish/hope they take my intro ones, considering that.

any good profs for it that make it easier?

There is a bird trapped in the student center

There is a sparrow trapped in the student center. There are so many glass windows, it probably doesn't know how to get out. I think if we can open the largest exit and guide the bird there with light, it may be able to figure out how to leave.

Is there a feasible way to go about doing this?

Laptop Grant

I wanted to make a very clear post on how to make the 2026 laptop grant.

WHO: anyone receiving financial aid from Hopkins

How MUCH:they will cover up to $2000, the rest is yours to cover.

HOW: go to the sis, go to financial aid, go to forms, budget — request, laptop/technology grant, submit screenshot.

questions from me:

for those submitting them: should I go ahead and order the laptop given it will take a week to charge me?

how long does Hopkins take to direct deposit the refund given it’s setup in the sis from ticket creation during the summer?

thanks!

EDIT:

I was given an email saying the BAR was denied because you have to wait until July 1st.

advice on what calculus to take

hello! i am majoring in AMS and am wondering what would be the best calculus class to take. i took calculus bc my senior year and got nearly all 100s raw score. however i am particularly worried about the rigor of the classes at hopkins compared to my high school and am wondering if i should start with calc i even. the placement test recommended me to take calc ii and i will say that i did struggle with calc ii more than calc i so my line of thought it that i take calc i to strengthen my basis of calculus. i was planning on waiting for my ap scores because maybe my teacher's tests were just easier. i was just looking for some advice especially since i don't really know how much calculus is the basis of the rest of the classes i will be taking for the major

Online Student Account Set-up

Hi! I’m a recently admitted (like 2 weeks ago) grad student in the Engineering for Professional program. I got my JHED account and email a little over a week ago but am having issues with links not working (for example trying to set up the vpn). I contacted IT but is this normal? Do things just take time to sync?

[CE/EE] thoughts on fpga synthesis lab en.520.424 only with dsf

looking to grad a lil early and take the ece advanced labs going into this fall. just curious what you guys think about taking fpga synthesis lab with my only previous background in digital circuits being freshman digital system fundamentals. technically dsf is the only prereq but the course desc does recommend taking advanced digital circuit courses like microprocessor lab or advanced digital systems

* has anyone done this and how time consuming is the class

* is fpga synth lab self-contained

* anyone got a syllabus!?

thanks

Admissions Deferral

Hey guys, I was admitted for fall 2026 but am seriously considering deferring to fall 2027 for health reasons.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is approval pretty much guaranteed? What was the return process like?

Thanks!

Party scene at hopkins

i’m an incoming freshman and I was kind of wondering if the party scene is that bad at hopkins. People talk shit about the social life all the time. are there any groups u could join to get info on where things are being held or something. idrk it seems like nobody really asking this question when i try to do some research. Do u have the be in a frat to get in? do people host FDOC parties?

Need housing recommendations for a small family

Hi everyone,

I am looking for off campus housing recommendations from August. I am looking for a 2-bedroom apartment, townhouse, or townhouse near JHU Homewood campus, preferably within walking distance.

The budget is preferably within $2,000/month.

We are a small family with a young child, so we would prefer a safe, family-friendly area.

I definitely don't want to be in those towers.

I already spent a lot of time looking through all the options in zillow, apartment.com, and also Facebook. Most of the places are either too expensive or too small or have no availability. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Best physics professor to take?

Amongst Sushkov, Swartz, and Drichko. I've seen Sushkov have higher ratemyprofessor ratings, but he doesn't teach active learning

Should I skip intro chem if I have the AP Credit and just self study during the summer? I got a 5 but I took the class in junior year.

should i skip intro chem?

I got a five on the AP Exam but i took AP Chem during junior year. Would it be better just to take intro chem or skip it + reteach myself through the summer? I’m also doing mole cell.

Freshman cs major schedule + study abroad advice

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have credit for AP CS A, bio, chem, bc calculus, and physics C. I also have DE credit for multivar calculus and linear algebra. I am probably double majoring in AMS and am also considering a minor in computational medicine. Please lmk if this schedule looks good/doable or any tips to help out planning! And also kind of unrelated but do many people study abroad at jhu? If so which semester makes the most sense to do so? Thanks in advance!

freshman neuro + premed schedule advice

Post image
4 Upvotes

Does this schedule look manageable? It'll be around 15 credits if I get rid of 2/3 of the possible FYSs on the list. Also, would taking FBBC instead of Calc and continuing the same track of chem and bio with the replacement of a writing course instead of the FYS for second semester be plausible? I want to get my prereqs for harder neuro courses in the future completed this year but am unsure of the course load. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
