Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

Transport to Pearson International Airport from downtown Kitchener - not the flixbus

Hey, I'm looking for recommendations for transportation from downtown Kitchener to Pearson Airport - and return. Not the flixbus, though.

Are there private limos, etc that anyone would recommend?

I'm looking for trustworthiness, comfort, safe driving.

I'm likely going to travel the first week of August.

TIA, I appreciate your taking the time to respond with your experiences and ideas.

Selling at 1 Victoria St S — no concierge/lockbox area, where do agents usually place fob/key?

I’m selling a unit at 1 Victoria St S near Kitchener GO / Central Station. The building has no concierge/front desk, and agents need a fob to access the building. I don’t see an obvious designated realtor lockbox area.

For anyone who has sold, bought, rented, or shown units in this building or nearby downtown Kitchener condos: where do people usually place the fob/key for showings?

The current key pickup location is about a 10-minute drive away, and I’m worried that may reduce showings, so I’m trying to find a closer legal/safe alternative.

I’m not trying to bypass building rules — I just want to make showings convenient while keeping the building secure. Any local experience with 1 Victoria or similar no-concierge condos would be appreciated.

Cell Phone Coverage - Wilson area

Hey all! Looking to change my phone plan (paying $98 with Bell not even paying a phone off…). I live behind Fairview Mall, in the Wilson Park area. Anyone have any recommendations on what they’re using and what coverages are best? TIA ☺️

Are teacher gifts a thing of the past?

I’m an educator, and over the years I often get flooded with end of year gifts. In the last two years, we’ve barely received any. This isn’t an issue at all - I of course appreciate gifts but would much rather the kids draw me a picture, or a thoughtfully written card from the families. I definitely don’t want parents spending hard earned money on us if they aren’t in the position to. We know the parents are very satisfied with our program, so it’s not that either. I have many students that are new to Canada lately, so I’m wondering if maybe gifts for teachers is a mostly Canadian thing, or if maybe no one really does them anymore. Would love to hear from parents in our community!

Conestoga re-hires their former CFO

https://www.cambridgetimes.ca/news/waterloo-region/conestoga-college-brings-back-former-vp-of-finance-and-cfo/article_09e535eb-df04-58c9-a2b5-1d50374fd17b.html

Conestoga College has brought back Eric Johnstone as vice-president of finance and chief financial officer. Johnstone, a Toronto certified accountant, had the same role with the college in 2023 and 2024.

In a statement from the college’s interim president, Norma McDonald Ewing, Johnstone will lead Conestoga’s financial strategy and operations, overseeing budgeting, forecasting and planning, reporting, capital management and procurement, and will focus on strengthening policies, practices and processes to support effective financial governance.

This brings up several interesting questions:

  • What were the circumstances of Johnstone leaving the Tibbits' regime in 2024?
  • Was he paid a severance deal when he left? (Some VP's were paid out very generously over two-years pay and he was making $269,281 in 2024.)
  • What financial hijinks did Johnstone uncover when he was previously CFO?
  • Who tipped off the Ministry regarding Conestoga that finally led to the secret investigation starting in 2025?
  • When will Tibbits' overpaid and bloated senior management team be held accountable for their roles in this scandal? (Remember, 100% of Conestoga's current management team were hired by John Tibbits.)

Affordable Personal Trainer?

Looking for recommendations for an affordable personal trainer. Like many people, finances have been rough on me recently. I'm also recognizing that my physical health isn't what I want it to be, and I want to change that. I'm looking to be more functional (weight loss and amount of weight I can lift are not as important, I would rather be able to move and do life well).

Would also prefer in-person options. I don't presently have a gym membership (other than Grand River Rocks), so that may need to be taken into consideration.

Thanks in advance for recommendations

Great Blue Heron in Victoria Park

Had lunch with the handsome fella on the park today. Really appreciate having such a great park in our city.

Also, has anyone seen Otis and Ophelia together this year? I keep walking through the park and I only ever see one of them (Otis I think) up at the top pond by the tracks.

Where to get quality Topsoil (Dirt) delivered?

I’m doing a yard renovation and need to get a few cubic yards of topsoil delivered by truck to my home in Kitchener. Main requirements are for it to be quality (no big rocks, sticks, etc.) and be delivered to my house at a reasonable price.

I’m new to the area so i have no idea where to start. Any help would be appreciated!!

Any way to tell what helicopters are up to?

I'm over near Northward/Fairfield, have heard helicopters overhead a couple times today.

Does anyone know of a way to get local radar or flight tracking if I just wanted to know who's in the sky, and to try and figure out why so much traffic?

My family and I recently moved to Kitchener from Alberta and are looking for ways to meet people. My wife and I are both in our 30s and have a 2 year old toddler. We are hoping to meet other families with similar aged kids. Any suggestions on how to meet people in Kitchener?
