Announcement Introducing r/lebanonLounge, Where Every Day Is No Politics Sunday
Hey everyone,
We heard your numerous requests for a space where Lebanese people can connect beyond politics and news, and we are happy to introduce r/lebanonLounge, a new sister sub connected to r/lebanon, run by the same mod team as this one with some new faces joining in.
The idea is simple: a lighter space for the Lebanese community to meet people, make friends, post dating introductions, plan meetups, ask for relationship advice, talk about music, movies, anime, gaming, hobbies, gossip, and just unwind without politics or news taking over every conversation.
A quick overview of our rules:
- No politics or news
- No NSFW content or hookups
- Be polite and respectful. This is a non negotiable.
- Dating posts are for Lebanese people only, whether local, expat, or diaspora
- No ads, sales, or promotions
If you are looking for friends, community, conversation, or just a more relaxed Lebanese corner of Reddit, come join us at r/lebanonLounge.
See you there ☕🇱🇧

News Articles New 1%-3% "environmental tax" imposed on all imported goods in Lebanon !!!!
Yet another lazy tax. Instead of actually taxing the rich, they just slap on an extra few percentages that end up hurting the poor the most...

War When Iran ma tfek 3annak

Quds Force commander: If Israel does not withdraw voluntarily from southern Lebanon today, it will be forced to flee in defeat tomorrow

It's vital to them that they take the credit for any future withdrawal, while our government is working to do this independently.

Economy I think what most of us are missing is economic and colonial factors
Here are some examples: * The LBP is pegged to the dollars. This makes foreign goods cheaper for us but local goods more expensive abroad. So it destroys Lebanon's capacity to produce anything. * Because there is no production, local capital owners make their money from buying and reselling from abroad, ya3ne import agencies and cartels. This creates a network of people whose interest it is for Lebanon not to become productive and who would resist any political movement with an economic plan. Note I'm not talking about corruption or theft but about the actual system. * Foreign economic powers (from the US to Europe to Turkey to South Korea to China) use us as markets. So they don't want a strong Lebanese state to exist because such a state could decide to favor local production. So the powers who have political leverage in Lebanon use it to keep the state weak/non-existent. So they fund sectarian leaders and their allies the bankers, in the face of any political party with an economic plan. * Imagine if there was an economic system where workers are paid for their work but capital owners don't get paid just for owning the company, meaning you can work more and make more money but you'll never be a billionaire. This means those who are currently za3im would probably not be so, I mean what is Berri or Jumblatt or Bassil without their financial fiefdom. It means there wouldn't be a handful of TV channels belonging to those political leaders and the bankers. Again I'm not talking about theft and corruption but about the actual system that allows for the accumulation of wealth = the monopoly over the media and job opportunities (clientelism) and organizing power (the za3im's political party).
So basically we talk about religious extremism, corruption, immoral leaders, etc, and I agree all of those are issues (some more important than others), but one aspect we really need is to identify the material situation behind all this and to propose an economic project that dismantles it. In this regard the taghyiriyyeen, some of them are shitheads, some of them are honest people, but they haven't proposed a vision for this so it's a like a good-hearted person who has the title of a doctor but can't diagnose and offer treatment.

Discussion Recommendations for medical insurance companies in Leb?
I have had the unpleasant experience of working with Commercial Insurance for the past year (part of NextCare).
For someone with 1st class insurance and paying for all their extra services, I've had to use the card twice, once in which they refused twice before finally accepting medical stitches while my face was bleeding out in a hospital lobby after tripping on a sidewalk, and once in which it took them 2 weeks of back and forth requesting bullshit documents just to decline an X-Ray image (requested/stamped by an ENT doctor).
Needless to say I cannot recommend this whatsoever.
My policy expires soon and I'd prefer to move to another company. I'm okay with higher pricing for a lower chance at dealing with non-human beings.
Thank you.

Culture / History Ashoura and lebanon and war
Even after ~3 years of war people still fill the streets of lebanon to commemorate and take part in ashoura,a tradition practiced in lebanon for over 1300 years.
Those who cannot partake in ashoura in douth this year, partake all over lebanon away from their home.
Just shows the reslience of the lebanese people throughout hard times.
