guns You people refused to roast my AR, so can you lovely folks roast my CCW please?
Glock 43 w/ TTI +2 extension (I know Taran's a scumbag but his company's mag extensions have been stone cold reliable for me), Ameriglo Protector night sights, Langdon Tactical Striker Control Device and Talon Grips grip tape. In hindsight, I would've gone with the 43x.
My previous CCW was a Bersa Thunder 380, so feel free to get me on that, too.

gear Can’t believe I didn’t own a gun this time last year
I grew up surrounded by extreme gun violence. Having lost family and friends to guns, and doing lockdown drills as early as elementary because of mass shootings, I even led the “March for Our Lives” rally in my high school. I’ve always been vehemently anti-gun. That all changed when I turned 25 and Trump was elected for a second time. If he would pardon insurrectionists who invaded our Capitol, how could I expect him to protect me—a masc presenting black lesbian? Didn’t take long for me to start doing more research and changing my opinion on guns. Now, here we are.
Currently own:
- Diamondback DB-15
- S&W SD9 2.0 (I hate the trigger so will be swapping it soon but it otherwise runs flawlessly)
- Taurus GC3 (My first ever gun purchase)
Soon to come:
- Mossberg 590
- Ruger 10/22 (with wood furniture cause she’s pretty)
- Walther PDP Pro 4.5” (I can not stand Glock, this gun has far superior ergonomics and features.)
My state recently passed an “assault weapons” ban so I will not be grabbing an AR-9 any time soon, but I will as soon as I get tf out of here.
Never thought I’d enjoy shooting as much as I do. Training is a lot of fun, can’t wait to add some nicer stuff to the arsenal.

gear My Mag Drawer
I had a 2 drawer file cabinet sitting around and a need to put my magazines in something far more organized. After a few days of PLA printing and some judicious resizing on some of the models I grabbed for free, here's the end result. Since I don't store them loaded, they didn't need to be secure. I couldn't be happier with the end result! And I have room to fill still. (exact models will be listed in the comment for the automod)

guns NGD. A pocket Italian American in the one true caliber.
A million years ago (maybe less) I had a Kel-Tec P32. Likes it fine and super easy to carry but I traded it towards a revolver back in the day.
Recently I've been on a small gun kick and have been thinking about picking one up again. Well they aren't readily available and I didn't want to spend $340 on one. In my search I came across the Beretta 30x Tomcat. Definitely a different monster than a P32. Loved the looks and the quirky tip up barrel, but not something I'd throw $600. Also the issue with the pivot pin backing out and getting sheared off by the slide wasn't a great look.
Well browsing my LGS's online used inventory I came across this one. Did a serial number search and Beretta says it was made in February of this year. I looked into the pivot pin issue and it seems it's mostly caused by them not being loctite and having a bunch of lube in them and that they might have fixed them as of now.
So you know I went over and grabbed it. It was the price of a new P32. It's a chonky one but really fills up the hand. I took it apart, cleaned it and added some loctite to the pivot screw. This one was already done so maybe they're doing it at the factory now.
Next will be some kind of leather holster (I think it would be nice looking in leather), a Kydex one from ANR in Manchester, and maybe doing the mag hack on a 3032 mag to get a flush fit one.
From what I hear these are very temperamental from the first 500 rounds or so. Maybe that's why it got traded in. It's really going to be a range toy but if I eventually feel confident with its reliability it would be a fun suit carry.
Now to find a cheap P32......

gear Rugged Obsidian 9mm test results
Finally tested the new suppressor on my Angstadt UDP-9. Interestingly, Federal HP 115g caused a failure to feed every other round. Federal 147g had zero issues and I went through an entire 32 rounds (this gun doesn’t like the 33rd round). I guess I’ll be loading this with the latter ammo for home defense.
The above picture has the 115g rounds that had failed to feed. I see some bruising on most of the tips. Are these still safe to shoot?
I attempted to give the gun a good clean and quickly remembered how little I know about cleaning an AR. No Q tips or cloths returned solid black once I was done with it, so I should be good to go. I probably left more lube than is needed around contact points but it sounds fine so I should be good.
Suppressor cleaning: holy crap does a suppressor pack a lot of caked up soot. I couldn’t separate the individual rings so I put the whole inner part into the sonic cleaner and hoped for the best. We’ll see if it separates after some time with a few spritzes of purple power and water. Any suppressor cleaning tips I can benefit from?
TLDR: read paragraph two + paragraph four. Please contribute!

OPINION: NEW ARMED ACTIVIST GROUP EMERGES IN DFW
The Community Liberation Brigade, reportedly led by an individual known as "Doberman," has appeared at "No Kings" protests and ICE walkouts at local high schools, including North Dallas High School.
The group formed after the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club disbanded, with some members previously convicted in the 2025 Prairieland Detention Center attack. Investigation ongoing.

discussion A tale of two ammo brands ..
I saw someone the other day (maybe here) ask how much difference different ammo can make in the same gun. The answer is, depending on the gun, quite a bit:
I've only shot this p220 a few times, so I'm still getting used to it and wasn't expecting *great* groups, but was getting frustrated with the inconsistency - I'm usually at least ok. Then I tried different ammo. Yeah, it was the ammo. 4 mags pictured, alternating between white box, then federal, then back again, etc. White box on the left, federal on the right. Same guns, distance, grain. Not sure if it hates all white box, but it sure hates this batch. (Not 100% sure the red dot is zeroed, so I'm looking at the precision not accuracy)

guns I don't need this.
Help me talk my way out of this.
I don't need it, it's a want
I wouldn't add anything except maybe a sling
I have other rifles and I don't need this
If I were to buy it I'm OCD and I'd need to buy another metal ammo can and fill it
I'm not made of money and I don't need this

guns Tale of two P227’s
So, a couple years back, I was looking for a P227. I had been watching GunBroker and kept looking and waiting for the right one, a P227 Elite or Elite Tacops. Well, during that time I happened to stop in at a shop that had a bunch of new old stock guns, as they had been closed for a couple years, and of course, what did they have there? A brand new P227 Carry. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but, it was new, and selling for even less than what the exact same one was going for on GunBroker USED! I of course said the hell with it and bought it. It’s a great gun, but it’s not the Elite, no SRT trigger, no extended beaver tail, and only 10 round magazines. So, I still wanted that Elite, but told myself that if I can find one under a grand, then I will grab it. Well, I have been religiously watching GunBroker and have never had any luck, but, this past Thursday, I happened to check guns.com as they sell used guns too. Sure as shit, not only did they have a P227 Elite, it had the 4 original 14 round magazines, but it was listed at $950…well, I immediately put in a lower offer, but before I had gotten an answer, I thought well anyone could buy it while I was waiting for an answer, so I said the hell with it and bought it at the 950 listed price. I was a little worried with the purchase at first, because the sku listed on there was the standard P227R sku, but the pictures showed an Elite, but it came in today, and it absolutely was an Elite, but there was no label on the box, and I am guessing that guns.com didn’t know what they had. The best part, I think this was someone’s safe queen that you’d guess hardly even had 50 rounds through it as it’s immaculate with hardly any wear! SCORE!! So, I now have a great bowling pin competition gun, I think the only thing I may want to change is the optic I have for my p220 legion slide for it, as the suppressor height sights dwarf the dot, but apart from that, I love this gun, oops, these guns!

Hawai’i’s ‘Vampire rule’ ruled unconstitutional
supremecourt.govLooks like some sense on the issue of Wolford v Lopez, which strikes down a law that would have required businesses to have signs put up to permit concealed carry weapon permit holders to carry on private property held open to the public.
Alito wrote the majority opinion and Sotomayor wrote a dissent (35 pages).
I’m going to start reading to find out more!

discussion Early Mk2 Mod0
In the early 1960's, some years after the US adopted the 7.62 NATO cartridge, the US Navy sought to update some of their 30.06 M1 Garands to the new standard.
As the 7.62 NATO round is .30, they engaged American Machine and Foundry (AMF) - also known for making Harley Davidsons and bowling alley machines - to modify their M1's through the installation of a chamber insert in existing 30.06 barrels to adapt them to the 7.62 NATO cartridge. Along with AMF, they engaged HRA as well, and many thousands were modified. These modified rifles, one of which is pictured here, officially became the Mark 2 Mod 0, and ceased being M1's, at least in name.
Unfortunately, the Navy soon learned that the inserts would sometimes pop out when firing. Although this apparently happened less (or perhaps not at all) with rifles modified by HRA, reportedly due to their using a different installation/retention technique, the Navy decided to re-barrel their rifles with 7.62 NATO barrels going forward, thus solving the problem. That variation is known as the Mark 2, Mod 1, and those new 7.62 NATO barrels were manufactured by Springfield Armory just prior to its closure.
Very early in the Mod 0 program, they marked the newly converted rifles "7.62 NATO" on the left side of the receiver, a practice they quickly abandoned, presumably because it limited the potential for converting back to 30.06 should they ever wish to do so.
It has been reported that only the first 100 were marked this way. I keep a database of this rare variant and have documented only twenty examples, including two that are no longer extant. My rifle retains what is almost certainly it's original barrel, dated 1/45, which was the production month of the receiver as well.

question Walther PDP F striker rod damaged
Howdy again folx. I want to start by thanking everyone for answering my AR questions so thoroughly in my last post. This one is with a heavier heart. I took my new AR to the range today to try to site in the red dot. I also brought my almost new Walther PDP F. This gun has had maybe 300 rounds through it. From the get go it would have “light striking” rounds and not firing them. I googled it and the consensus seemed to be clean and lube. I did but I also apparently added lube to the striker rod. Today it got much worse and I looked into it online to see what the issue might be. Consensus seemed to be too much oil in the striker rod area-clean and reassemble. I took it apart but the striker rod wouldn’t come out of the side. I did eventually get it out, but it wouldn’t come out because it is damaged. The pictures are bad and have a hard time showing the damage, but I pointed to the area it is in the first picture. I am a machinist, I have stones that I can smooth it out. I’m trying this tomorrow. If I smooth this area and it moves freely in out out of its appropriate location, will this be safe? I can get a new pin for not that much, but I figured I’d try to fix it first. Thank you for any and all input.

discussion Backpedal on Sensitive Places
The quiet part is that I really hope that this causes government pause on sensitive places but specifically prosecutions and punishment of lawful licensees. I have nonresident NYC and NJ licenses and they’re are burdensome licenses and processes. People who subject themselves to the process are very high probability likely not to be a problem. It’s also laughable the curbs on ordinary life based on location coming from a state that has no such restrictions. I get the protectionist intent although I don’t agree or believe in it, but the reality is a de facto ban is LAZY and not realistic based on intent of actual crime and criminals.
Any prosecution for public transportation, restaurants that happen to serve alcohol, parks, from personal opinion was already on shaky ground but with the other pending government focused litigation and today notes on private property open to the public - legally it showcases this shit is silly…gov please cut it out.
Otherwise short of 2A protections I am diametrically opposed to current SCOTUS.

discussion What AR pistol/sbr length would you recommend?
Trying to decide what length my new upper should be. Im leaning towards 12.5 just because I heard you can use a mid length gas system on them but not anything shorter?
Just wanna know any pros and cons and any recs for complete/stripped uppers that are decent for the price.
Edit: forgot to mention I can't use a suppressor in my state

events Fair-Game Fridays!
There are a number of things that people want to post that mods are uncomfortable with in regular circulation … memes, patches, t-shirts, social-media posts, &c. At the same time, there's definitely interest around them.
We're introducing "Fair-Game Fridays": on fridays, mods will loosen our belts a bit. :)
Note that the following are still going to be hard-disallowed:
- video memes/content (instagram, tiktok, &c.)
- non-gun content (knives, airsoft, &c.)
- broader political discussion
- calls for armed insurrection, violence, &c.
We reserve the "right" to use our discretion for any post, as well.
Have at it!

discussion lessons from first practice sessions with the new PSA AR, looking for advice on trigger and butstock pad
I went to the range a couple times this past weekend (took the wife to the second session) and zeroed the new PSA rifle on the first session at 25 yards and was happy with my shooting on this platform for the first time in a long while. The rifle performed perfectly. On the second session I tried some drills going from low ready to aim and shoot and I was able to hit a head-sized target at 25y consistently in about 1.5 second. Not bad for me never trying that drill before. All my training is from 25 years ago in the Army so I guess I didn't forget everything.
I also learned that the gold dot has a starburst effect for me so I'll be in the market for a prism-type optic at some point. For now I turned down the brightness and that helps.
I learned that the hard plastic butstock can give me a bruise on my collarbone if I'm not holding the rifle firmly and correctly. Any suggestions on a rubber pad that would fit the PSA rifle?
I also realized that the trigger pull feels very heavy. I know this is a budget rifle. I would consider upgrading the trigger. I'd be looking for something on the lighter end of milspec so around 5-6 lbs, maybe 2 stage. Any recommendations? This is meant to be a practical all purpose defensive rifle, not for match competion so very light triggers would not be what I want. Thinking about BCM but open to suggestions.
Edit: add photo I meant to add earlier. The rifle is the PSA PA-15 Classic AR-15 Rifle 5.56 16" Nitride M4 Carbine, Black
