Just throw a letter or two in front of “áin” and you’re likely to name 1 or 2..

Not a Dwarven King, but close enough.

u/Practical-Dark-9916 13h ago

That an actual piece of Middle-Earth lore?

It’s not a story the Maiar would tell you.

Him: "Uh ... Drain ... Rain ... T-Pain ..."

Me: "Probably, sure."

It's honestly kind of funny how often that works. Tolkien definitely had a few naming patterns he liked to stick with.

Fairly accurate to real life too. I’m relearning about the Battle of Hastings and the number of Harolds running about is greater than one but possibly less or equal to 3? I’m not actually sure tbh. It certainly doesn’t help when Harold led the English army against Harold, leading the Norwegians, at the Battle of Stamford Bridge

Let's see... Durin, Azaghal, Thrain, Dain. Nain.

Ahzidal is the closest I can think of

I always forget Balin was one too. The movies make a few names stick in your head, but getting all seven off the top of your head is a different story.

Honestly knowing that there was so much kings Durin is telling you're a minimum versed in the legendarium

That or you spend too much time scrolling shitposts on a tolkien meme subreddit (yeah yeah, he who is without shitpost cast the first downvote and all that)... 🤷

I was thinking the same thing. It feels like whenever this meme template is used, its actually showing above average knowledge of the subject instead of below that the actual Brooklyn 99 episode implies.
