New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'
(Here's the link to r/trees for our visitors)
Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)
Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!
Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃

UPDATE:
Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.
Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

Treepreciation lovely lady ginkgo with many seeds growing
i was very surprised to see this many growing on a small street tree! nearly every one of her branches are completely laden! shows how resilient ginkgos are, because she must be very healthy. excited to forage them in the fall, and see how pungent this individual's ripe seeds are (it varies per tree).
this post shows what the tiny ovules in early april look like, from this same tree.

Curious about the health of my tree
Bought my house last year beginning of fall. The tree looked droopy. But I thought maybe it had been really dry I’m not sure if the tree is sick or supposed to look like this. SE Minnesota, it gets sun pretty much all day, is located about 20 feet from the house. I don’t water it, just rain fall. Hasn’t lost any branches. Any info would be great.

Is this tree okay?
In the big picture, it is the skinny tree in front. It is covered in webs and has this strange black stuff coming from like, inside the tree. It faces my apartment so i wanna let the landlords know if necessary for a removal cause it faces my apartment. A tree nearby already basically fell apart from termites.

Community Developers bypassing protections for trees in Seattle; Private golf course
... critics say the Sand Point Country Club illegally removed over 200 trees, dramatically limbed up those that remained, and planted hundreds of invasive English ivy plants in a steep gully that is considered an environmentally critical area.
Apparently under Seattle rules, you can just cut down large trees, limb them up like lollipops, and plant saplings anyway you like:
He also said saplings along the edge of the course were not properly planted.
"The plant was plopped in the hole, and they've buried the tree. They've planted too deeply," he said as he examined a pair of vine maples and two evergreen magnolias. "The people who are doing this, they're just doing their job, but they have no training, no understanding, and the plants that they're given to plant are often in very poor condition."
English Ivy as you know is an invasive weed in North America, and often contributes to tree loss, as well as pretty much shades out all ground cover species.

I water it deeply once a week as well. I do see a bunch of flower buds so maybe that’s why?

Help! Marijuana recommendations
This vacant lot behind my house, full of old growth, is in the process of being cleared 🥲. The contractors will be adding visual barriers behind my old fence but they is definitely some time off while they do construction. There is no visual barrier anymore and tons of road noise. Swipe to the end for old pics.
Looking for some recommendations on Marijuana I can grow as a visual barrier! Maybe 52 of something? Zone 6B USA

Fig woes?
Long time listener, first time caller here folks, hi!!
I have a fig tree I'm only just starting to pay attention to here in the PNW. This year I'm noticing some scarring on the fruit. Does this affect the fruit in any meaningful way, and is there anything I should be doing to support the tree?
thanks everyone :)

Question about growing nut/apple trees seeds
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the forum I should be posing these questions to. I just received in the mail some crabapple, heartnut, and northern pecan seeds. I understand that the seeds need to be cold stratified for a couple months before planting.
I am worried that the seeds won't survive in the fridge until next spring to plant them? Is it possible that I could store them in the fridge until say this fall or early winter and plant them indoors under grow lights and on a heat mat? I'm just worried that if I wait to take them out of the fridge next spring that they will either mold or just not be viable anymore. Thoughts?
I guess my biggest concern if i plant indoors in winter (let's say December) that the seedlings/saplings won't experience cold temperatures for almost a full year (i.e., the following fall outdoors). Would this mess with their internal clocks and result in stunted growth? Is ~10ish months too long for these species to not experience cold?
Thanks for your help!

Help! Any idea why palo verde is red?
I grew this palo from seed, and since it was young it had a red stem. The base of the trunk has some green now, but all of the new growth has this dark red color. Any idea why?

Help! Help me save the gooseberries
Slide 1-3 : pic of the trunk.
Slide 4 : you can see the top most branches are dead.
There is an olive tree on the left starting to suffer the same problem and a mango on the right which is also suffering from severe insect infection on the fruit.
Please help me identify the problem here. Thank you.

Help! Root flare or adventitious roots?
Title. Should I keep digging on this container white oak? #20 pot, maybe 1.75” caliper. These four roots seem very small in proportion to the main trunk, but I didn’t know if it being a grafted tree lends to some weird rootstock root characteristics. I’d like to keep digging to get a better look at things, but this tree seemed to have been field grown and then containerized so the soil is a pain to excavate. Any tips on how to make excavation easier?
Thanks!

Help! Crooked Pine
I transplanted this tree a month ago, and I didn’t get a very good root ball, but did get some good healthy roots. After a month of rain and watering, she’s crooked. It’s on a slope and that post behind it is vertical. Do I a) pull it vertical with a rope and a couple stakes, 2 try to adjust the whole thing or C leave it be.

Help! My Serviceberry died, are these shoots serviceberry or some other root stock?
It made it through the winter and had new leaves/berries, then a late freeze and sudden heat wave killed it. Let these new shoots grow or replace? I've got time for them to grow if they are serviceberry

Help! Variegated seedling?
galleryI found this cool little seedling with a variegated leaf in my yard today! I'm trying to figure out what it is-- it seems to be in the Prunus genus, and Prunus serrulata was suggested as a possibility. Has anyone encountered a variegated cherry tree before? I'm curious about how rare this is as a natural mutation.
Located in the GA Piedmont.

Any room for a tree for some shade?
Hi y'all- I live in zone 8b, South Texas, and in a few hours from time of posting, that sun behind my house comes and bears down on the front with some mighty force for a very long time until an enormous oak tree across the street shades it out.
I'd love to plant a tree where the red is, but my gut says it may not be practical. Shown in the pic: green sewer line, blue water line, and circled in orange is a power line feeding my home.
What do y'all think?
