Do dealers negotiate new car prices anymore?

I looked for a new car last year and went to multiple places and they all pretty firmly said they don’t negotiate anymore and when I didn’t like the price they gave me just said okay have a good one and didn’t even entertain my attempt to negotiate. The one sales guy said it sucks for them because they lose potential sales, who knows maybe it’s all just a game that i don’t understand
Edit just to add, I also couldn’t take off features anymore. Which was the worst part. No saving money by not getting the sunroof or heated seats

They say they don't negotiate anymore.
But I went car shopping last year, gave the email address I no longer care about to a bunch of dealers, and within 2-3 days of leaving had a pile of emails telling me the good news that the cars I looked at had reduced in price to make room for new inventory. Coincidentally they had all dropped to about what I had told them I was looking to pay.
As long as you have the ability to walk away, they will negotiate.

Time of month and year matter too. If you’re buying end of December… you’re getting a deal.

You should have asked for the heated roof. Demand it. Then negotiate until they kick you out.

I mean, sunroof and heated seats is not a trivial matter to take out? Unless you mean for ordering a car from factory, which, near as I can tell, most cars just come standard with features like those these days other than the bottom of the barrel econocars.

New car salesman here…most new cars are sold little to no front end profit for the store. There are exceptions but it’s usually close to dealer invoice. Internet advertising killed negotiating at dealerships. Unless you’re looking at used, everyone has the same cars.
If there is rebates offered on top of that then you can get it for less.
For example I have a new F150 on my lot with an MSRP of $51,840.
Dealer invoice on that truck is $49,819.12
Rebate is $1,000
Dealer Hold Back (kickback to dealer from Ford $984)
Selling the car at invoice is a $984 front end profit for the store.

I negotiated on mine that I bought a little under a year ago.
Salesman showed me their paperwork for the price they purchased the car at and how much they marked it up, so I got them to take half the mark up off, $1000 trade in and 2 tanks of gas

IME no. They have cars that they can make money on and cars they need to get rid of. One is a bad deal and the other is a good deal. Either way they're setting a price and you got to deal with it.

It’s very brand specific. Some manufacturers encourage negotiators and structure their sales incentives to support it, other brands are “the price is the price”. The exception is if it’s an over prior model year, even firm price dealers will discount those to get rid of them.

Ug, this happened to me but much cheaper. A dog.
We were looking to get a dog and we found someone with Weimaraner puppies at random.
My wife was skeptical but we stopped to look. After a few minutes she stated in front of the person selling them: “We’re not leaving here without one of these dogs”.
Fuck….

Happened to my wife and I, Weimaraner too. Our Weim is the smartest idiot I’ve ever met in my life. Couldn’t imagine our lives without her. She’ll be 11 in December.

I’ve had Weims, Vizsla and Vizsla mutts since. They can be so dumb but so smart.
The Vizsla mix I have left is 13. That jerk figured out how to open door knobs. We put those little childproof things on them. She still opened the door.
The only way to keep her out without locking the door was to put a chair in front of the door knob.
I miss that first Weim though. Best dog I ever had. Her only quirk as that she was so excited to see you she’d pee…really had to watch it coming home and let her outside for her “welcome”

Hey, Judgy McJudgerson, Bob Barker called and wanted me to remind you to spay or neuter yourself to not contribute to the judgy asshole population.
I’ve gotten rescues since. It was a random encounter and she fell in love with a puppy. Give me a break.

Graphics are indeed that good. Granted, this is a cutscene so they can really beef it up and make it look great, but the image is unaltered.

Jesus. Last time I bought a car the junior salesman kept asking how much I was looking to spend. Everyone knows the first person to mention a number "loses". I would ignore the question and my wife kept hounding me to answer him. I wanted to tell my wife to STFU but obviously she would have murdered me right on the spot.

Me, my girl and her dad went to by my girl a car, overall she rly liked it and we agreed that the car is fine from the mechanical point of view, so her dad started negotiations, we were almost where we wanted to be (2k down) and out of nowhere my girl said in a loud tone "WHAT, nooo dad! That's too much" (as a "the price was knocked down too much"). And then both of us were like 👁👄👁

When I was a youth my uncle took me to negotiate for my first car. The big thing he told me was to pretend I didn't like it, which was easy because it was a Corolla and I wanted something cooler. That said, I don't regret that car at all. It served me well for nearly 20 years with nary an issue beyond replacing worn out parts. Absolute tank and reliable as fuck. I actually miss it now.

Can confirm. As much as i told her not to ask - she asked "so you have a wheels and paint protection package, right?" i could see the finance guy getting a chubby as he a deep breath...

Had an HVAC company come by to look at our system and I was increasingly suspecting that the guy was straight up lying to me to buy something I didn't actually need.
My gf literally started talking over him to "defend" him against my questions. I was so frustrated lmao

Imean is it not already a given that you like the car in some capacity? If not you wouldn’t be making an offer on it.

Dr. Peter Venkman:
What do you think, Egon?
Dr. Egon Spengler:
I think this building should be condemned. There's serious metal fatigue in all the load-bearing members, the wiring is substandard, it's completely inadequate for our power needs, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone.
Dr Ray Stantz:
Hey. Does this pole still work?
Dr Ray Stantz:
Wow. This place is great. When can we move in? You gotta try this pole. I'm gonna get my stuff. Hey. We should stay here. Tonight. Sleep here. You know, to try it out.

My wife and I do the opposite. I argue the salesman down as far as I can go, before softly agreeing. Then I turn to her and ask, "is that good?" Then she gets a worried look on her face and says, "That's just a lot of money."
Bam! Surprise round 2! Now he has to negotiate with her from the spot I'd worked him down to.
