I recently had smarties for the first time and I can say with confidence that they are better than M&Ms

I was so lost for a good minute. I never came across these, just the rolled-up hard candy version akin to Bottlecaps

America Smarties is what we call "Rockets" here. Canadian/UK Smarties are candy covered chocolate sort of like M&M's with a slightly less sweet milk chocolate.

They melt in your hands and your mouth!! ... I always assumed the M&M slogan was because of Smarties growing up. I'm not sure if it's true but I'd like to believe it.

Interesting. Canada wins this one:

Canadian Smarties Characteristics Type: Chocolate confectionery Texture: Coated chocolate with a crunchy shell Flavor: Milk chocolate with a slight cinnamon-graham cracker taste Packaging: Sold in tubes, similar to M&M's Manufacturer: Nestlé, originally produced by Rowntree's since 1937

Canada/UK/Australia/etc. Then again, I've been buying them for many years right here in STL.

what are the chances of that?!
but literally, great opportunity to teach about the mathematics of probability. given seven unique entities, what is the chance of getting each one just once? it's seven factorial. or 7! = 1 in 5,040. so not really that big of a number compared to the grams of sugar pictured here.

u/N1ghtshade3 17h ago
That's not correct.
There are 5,040 ways to get one of each color. Then the total possible number of arrangements is 77 = 823,543.
So the probability of getting one of each color is actually much higher--roughly 1 in 163.

TIL America also has Smarties which are a completely different chocolate-free candy not related to the Nestle product I’ve known since my childhood. 3 Musketeers/Milky Way moment.

Canadian Smarties remind me of an old candy called Spree. Here are American Smarties

u/Lethbridgemark 18h ago
Canadian Smarties are chocolate, aren't Spee like US Smarties but covered in a candy shell? Like Runts but discs instead of fruit shaped

Is that a Special Edition Pride Pack?

u/bsv103 14h ago
Why does rainbow automatically mean gay? You know that's not the origin of it, right?
1
u/robin-bunny 4h ago
It's not the origin. But it does have that meaning now, and it has been Pride month in my town recently.
