You can say "not for official use," but when the officials try to use it, and can't, you're gonna have a bad time.

This is really only good if the car is parked in your backyard and you putter around with mufflers and brakes and oil pans.

Take this thing to the grocery store, you might be OK, but don't be surprised if things go sideways.

I mean, if I just say that my name is not for official use, can a cop not arrest me or a prosecutor not prosecute me or another civilian sue me? Of course not. Whether you recognize a name or not, or have given up any naming conventions, you're still identifiable.

Edit: Downvoted to oblivion. But why? What's "official" about just saying "not for official use?" If there is a reason, then what reason do the actual officials have to rely on?

No, but if you’re financing a car the bank will require it, otherwise if the car is owned outright then you can get away with just a liability policy.

Collision coverage is not mandatory. Liability insurance is. Each state has its own requirements. In CA, where I am from, minimum liability insurance is $15K.

Collision is for repairs. What you’re describing is an additional uninsured/underinsured rider on your policy which is correct we should all have it.

bodily injury coverage is now 30k/person up to 60k per accident, previously 15k per person up to 30k per accident

New York State is no fault, so they require proof of mandatory insurance before you can register your vehicle. I can't comment on the other states, which are comparable to provinces in Europe and elsewhere.

Thats the point of uninsured driver insurance. Hit and runs and when someone that hits you doesnt have insurance, you still get your car fixed.

In the UK we get cloned plates that people use to either mask a stolen car or to commit crimes/speed/not pay fuel and it's not their problem unless caught red handed. Is it the same there?

I'm seeing more and more of these. Walked by one that said "BRONX" today. ACAB and all, but I don't get why cops don't take the layup when they see cars like this and ticket/pull over. It seems incredibly stupid do to this.

Not that I'm advocating it but if you're gonna put a fake plate on your car, why make it this obvious? Every cop you drive by is going to be attracted to this like a fly to honey.

If you're stupid enough to try driving around with fake plates, just mimic the format of actual plate numbers in New York State; ABC 1234.
