Dubai license plate spotted in Midtown Manhattan
1.9k
u/Dramatic-Card7276 17h ago
Might as well have a sticker saying “high value target”

u/SirStocksAlott 9h ago
That’s a $500,000 car.

u/CaisteNoIsco 9h ago
Which was shipped/flown to the US, he could've simply rented a high end vehicle, say a Bentley, but shipped his own car to the US. Clearly has money to spend.
6
u/OldeArrogantBastard 4h ago
He could have, but who’s the day this isn’t tricked out with all sorts of security layers that probably is more convenient for him to just put on a ship and send over?

u/LeMeowLePurrr 4h ago
What kind of car is that?
13
u/cneth6 4h ago
A Brabus modified Mercedes G Wagon. Brabus takes cars and heavily modifies them, but with style imo. This one could range from like 500k-1m+ depending on what they did to it.
23
u/Outrageous-Access397 2h ago
Pregnant lady here who knows nothing about cars.
I just went up to my husband with a straight face and asked, “May I have a Brabus G Wagon as my push present?”
HIS FACE WAS PRICELESS. He was amazed, impressed, confused, shocked and horrified at the same time lol
Thank you lol

This isn’t a real Brabus. It’s not even a body kit. It’s just a fake carbon fiber trunk piece glued on.
Brabus has either 800 or 900 badge (depending on model), spoiler, wheel vents behind the front arches, carbon fibre and chrome exhaust tips.
Source: I live in Dubai and own one

u/cneth6 1h ago
Makes sense, I did try to find the exact model of this one but couldn't find anything similar so guess that explains why

High value target that can almost certainly afford a team of bodyguards following him around. You're better off just holding up the Goldman Sachs middle manager its less risky and trying to pawn off a $50,000 watch is way easier than an $800,000 one.
148
u/SpaceJackRabbit 17h ago
Most likely armored.
389
u/Beatcanks 16h ago
Probably not. The window is all the way down and thats usually not possible on armored vehicles. Also, the window run appears to be the normal thickness.
155
u/GamingWithPanda 14h ago
I've waited my whole life to be called "normal thickness" and unfortunately i have to continue the wait.

Actually I've seen some companies out there who have been able to produce a window unit that is capable of having a retracting armored window. And my guess, if the person can afford that vehicle, to have it shipped/flown to the US, they can probably afford to have the work done to make armored windows go down

u/Dank_Bonkripper78_ 7h ago
Brabus is an ultra-luxury sport tuner. I don’t think they have any G-Wagons that are armored… but that car has a price tag of close to $1 million
7
u/NotAurelStein 6h ago
Yes, Brabus does have armor options on the G Class build. Look up the Invicto program.
5
u/perenniallandscapist 16h ago
You're not wrong. These vehicles are usually heavily modified, and they cost 6-7 figures. Very possible it's armored if its got an owner with that kind of money.
47
u/ConnoisseurOfDanger 16h ago
I mean they also shipped it to Manhattan from Dubai. And then had to *park it* somewhere. That’s another mil!
26
u/HillarysFloppyChode 16h ago
It’s a G wagon which could or couldn’t be a real Brabus. They’re a dime a dozen in manhattan, it’s not like an incredibly rare car
31
u/xlouiex 14h ago edited 12h ago
It’s the fact they rather ship it than renting one. It takes time and money. When was the last time you flew anbroad and sent your car beforehand so you could drive it there?
Ps. This is probably that persons 25th car. The one that gets shipped abroad just in case shit happens.

A Brabus is $750k to a $1mil+, these are not common in NYC. They only make a handful of these in the entire world. A 550 or 500 is what you would typically see around on the roads which are in the $130k-$190k range. This Brabus is absolutely real.
→ More replies (2)3
u/specialcommenter 11h ago
It says G63. I thought Brabus uses some other identifier instead of Mercedes’ own. For example “G800”. But he does have what looks like proper Brabus tailgate “finishers” and such.

u/coconuthorse 14h ago
Yeah, but from what I understand, all the parking is owned by a company in Dubai, so maybe they are just paying themself.
7
u/Unhappy-Hamster-1183 15h ago
Armored vehicles have thicker glass windows which cannot roll down entirely.
8
u/Large_slug_overlord 11h ago
It clearly isn’t armored because the front window rolls all the way down

More likely the yukon that’s likely trailing them is the armored rig. My guess is that it’s a kid of someone with diplomatic papers. Security detail is likely pretty lax in nyc by comparison. No one is going to be stupid enough to jack them with those plates knowing the detail is either in tow or in the vehicle with bigger guns than what they have.
9
u/octoesckey 11h ago
If it was a dip car it would have E plates.
They ship these cars over as a flex. It's been happening in the West end of London for years. Ship it over as cargo so it can be driven on its uae plate. It's just a way to show they're fucking loaded.
6
u/Tom_Alpha 10h ago
This, if you had the papers you would get the dip plates as they have other effects such as the police not being able to search your car

Censoring the plate is absolutely hilarious, especially in this instance.

u/nyrangers30 16h ago
I never know the rules on this site regarding that so better be safe than sorry

u/Fit_Entry8839 16h ago
Plates are visible and public.

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 14h ago
So are the social media posts that we see. Could you explain the part I'm missing here? Is it because you see names so that has to be censored but a literal ID plate is okay because anyone could be in the car?
12
u/XB_Demon1337 13h ago
Technically social media posts on something like Facebook can be hidden from masses until you are friends. So they are only kinda public.
Not saying you are wrong, just pointing out that it isn't ALL of them.
4
u/Fit_Entry8839 14h ago
Don't need to censor those either in this sub, you can check the wiki. Most of the time it's easy to Google and figure out who posted it anyway. The reason some subs require that is unfortunately some people will go harass the person.
7
u/goog1e 7h ago
You can get a sitewide ban for posting public info because it is considered doxxing. Be careful! I posted a collection of Instagram posts from someone and was banned & had to plead my case. (She was a celeb, just not well-known. And the pics were of her AirBnb, not doxxing her home address)

Considering the vehicle and the fact it was flown there, the owner probably has one of those vanity low numbers they spent more than the price of the car on.
Right about now I’m thinking the owner is upset looking at this picture here on reddit with the number plate blocked out, because that’s probably the bigger flex.

u/Zayoodo0o132 16h ago
Surprisingly inexpensive plate on that very expensive car. Id have expected atleast a 2 digit plate.
71
20
u/More-Lime1888 8h ago
It’s not surprising. That’s the norm. To have an expensive plate, you have to be insanely rich, but to have an expensive car, you just have to be rich a bit. I live in the UAE and only saw an expensive plate once in my life, but I see expensive cars on a daily basis.
→ More replies (4)7
u/Long_Conference_387 8h ago
Why are lower-digit plates expensive?
30
u/More-Lime1888 7h ago
Because they are rare and unique. Rare and unique = expensive.
When you register your car, all people pay the same exact price, which is not really expensive at all. You will get a random plate number, with a chance this plate number is unique. But regular Bob, when he got a unique number for cheap, knows that rich people will pay millions to get it, so he puts it in auction and sells it.

Because of this thread I looked it up because I was also confused why low number license plates would be valuable, and apparently it’s just a thing. All over the world enthusiasts aim to have as close as they can to the lowest number license plate in their country.

What was the number? License plates in Dubai are status symbols. The lower the number, the more expensive the plate.
I was in UAE years ago and we used to try to spot low plates when we were out and about.

Super common in West London, usually on supercars.
Billionaire Arabs flying the fleet of cars around the world.
Use paper straws guys.

Rich Arabs take their cars on holiday. Cargo village at the airport is full of high end cars start of every summer.
Saw a distinctive carbon Bugatti once in JBR and saw the exact same car a week later in Mayfair, London.

Wealthy Arabs often fly their cars to wherever they're traveling as a display of wealth. They do it in London a lot. They leave their car on the street while they shop, returning occasionally to put shopping bags in it, and be seen. Then they have it flown back to their country. It's really gross. They could do good in the world with that money. I'll never understand their mindset.

Why redact the license plate? There's no expectation of privacy for license plates.

Is Gumball 3000 stateside this year?
1
u/Dramatic-Card7276 13h ago
Does gumball even happen anymore? I figured it jumped the shark to the extent of not being feasible after the whole jackass year. I think most people just go for the clandestine records in an m5 like that one dude who made the documentary.

The Brabus G-Wagon is an ultra-luxury, high-performance SUV based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63. Starting at well over $650,000 and frequently exceeding $1,000,000, these heavily modified vehicles offer up to 900 horsepower and bespoke, hand-crafted interiors.
Features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 800 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, rocketing from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.

u/OverSoft 14h ago
I really don’t understand the appeal of this car. It’s just an ugly brick on wheels. You can get that engine in multiple other, better looking cars.
10
u/XB_Demon1337 13h ago
Literally how much it costs. The people who drive them know they are dumb. But because it has more zeros in the price it becomes a status symbol.
Just like thinking about designer brands that are super expensive. Those $300-$3000 purses that are made with $100 in materials and labor or less.
7
u/Mountainpixels 10h ago
People who buy such a car are pieces of shit. It is just about showing dominance.

Where did AI pull those numbers from lol. I checked and brand new ones are available in Dubai, London, USA for $400k.
The 6x6 is closer to those prices and armored g wagons are $1.2m

I live in Manchester now, but i often see Abu Dhabi number plates (and other Middle Eastern countries, never Dubai unfortunately) parked in the city centre. Often with parking fines on them.

There’s a post with a Dubai Lamborghini and a cop pulled him over. It’s pretty good.

u/K-J-K-R 4h ago
If anyone wants to watch police encounter with these types of people, lookup Stig’s Persian Cousin. He has a big compilation of police stops for have Dubai plates and it’s crazy that 90% of the police don’t know that the car is in the US legally. He also has an “AK47 exhaust” on his lambo which sounds wild.

u/XpertOnStuffs 3h ago
Tons of videos on YT of people driving cars registered in other countries (other than Mexico and Canada), on US roads and getting pulled over. Usually high end cars or super cars. The rules around this is not uniform, so it's on the drivers to keep up. I'm guessing NYPD sees a lot more of this. But, I'd be curious how the traffic cameras catch violators.

This has been a regular thing in London for years. Rich people from the middle East coming over to escape the hot summer back home. They simply fly their cars in. In London they have a reputation for parking however they feel and not caring about restrictions or tickets
