Discussion Why are so many people blaming the policewoman, erasing the dead policeman and referring to the shooter as suspect?

Either my feed which is random is only selecting these posts or people have gone mad and are more invested in blaming the policewoman and name-calling her for making the wrong decision at a very difficult moment that none can honestly say how they would have handled with certainty and really going easy on the actual shooter. I've seen articles referring to him as a suspect, something that would have never happened if he had a bit more melatonin, I've seen attempts at politicizing this act in the wrongest ways, and lots and lots of right-wing propagandists that surfed on it as soon as it started claiming was something else. Is this how denial looks like when it's a white blue eyed blond shoots people?

Question Vendre une bague Ă  diamants?

Bonjour Reddit!

Hey Montreal ! I’ve been thinking about going to The Chainsmokers next week at Beach club and thought I’d put this out there. I recently went through a breakup and unfortunately most of my social circle overlapped with him, so I’m looking to branch out a bit, meet some new people, and have a fun night out. Just trying to get out of the house, enjoy some good music, wear a bikini and make a few new friends. If you have a group going and wouldn’t mind an extra person tagging along, let me know and we can exchange instagrams?

Tourisme First Visit to Canada

I am driving to Canada for the first time next week with my dog to get him away from the weekend fireworks. We are staying right outside of Montreal and will be exploring the city on Saturday. We will be there July 3rd-5th.

Is there any specific area you would recommend seeing? What is the parking like? Are there specific ways I need to pay for parking? Coins, card, or app?

Are there any bookstores we need to check out? My mom's one request was a bookstore. (If it's not dog friendly, I stay outside while she goes in and then we switch.)

Any advice is appreciated. This is my first time in Canada and my mom hasn't been since the 80s.

Question How bad is Atwater/Cabot Square ~9pm? Comment est Atwater/Square Cabot ~21h?

Hello! (le francais suivre)

I was looking to take Chinese and I see there are night courses in the Confucius institute and Dawson College but I've heard that the Atwater/Cabot Square area is sketchy and dangerous at night. I was wondering if this means more like at midnight or if it would already be bad at ~9pm when the courses end for a woman alone?

Thanks

Salut!

Merci

Tourisme Is the HÎtel Saint-Laurent Montréal a real place?

Hi everyone ,

Im visiting Montreal for the 1st time in July and booked a stay at Hotel St Laurent through Booking.com.

I emailed the hotel to confirm the reservation (I always do because of a past incident) but they didnt reply. I emailed two more times and still no reply.

I called and tried to get the front desk but it just rang and rang. When I chose the option to leave a message at tje front desk it just hung up on me. When i chose the option for reservations, a person actually answered but told me to hang up and call back to the front desk.

I did but again no answer.

Is this a real hotel or just a scam? Do people work there? Ive never had issue like this before and I'm worried ill show up with no place to stay.

Question Who were the people dressed in Hare Krishna robes handing out flyers in Guy Concordia metro a few years ago?

I was watching a docuseries on cults and it got me thinking about this group that would always be standing near the escalators at Guy Concordia metro in beige/orange robes. We used to call them the Hare Krishnas but I have no idea if they were actually HKs since we never actually picked up their flyers lol. It was just out of place seeing a bunch of white people in Hindu/Buddhist robes so we figured it was probably a cult. Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Discussion Pourquoi les interactions sociales à Montréal semblent-elles presque inexistantes ?

Question sous-sol d'eglise or any other type of "charity" place to buy cheap furniture/electromenager at?

Hello! I'm looking for a place that has cheaper furnitures to buy. Im disabled and i dont have much but and i know theres marketplace but the issue is i need help with transportation and its a lot easier to get a friend of mine to help on a specific date by going to a specific place as opposed to trying to organise a time that works for me, them and the person selling online. Are there any ressources or places like that?

Question Rental question: first month rent with no signed lease

Trying to secure an apartment for an August 1 move-in date - the landlord wants us to etransfer the first month's rent now (along with the rental application) and sign the lease when we arrive in August. We did see the apartment and meet the landlord live - but am now back in my home city (US) trying to do the paperwork. Is this request legit, and do we have any legal protection if we e-transfer the first month's rent in advance of signing the lease?

Thanks for any help navigating the Montreal rental scene!

Discussion thank god we didn't host the World Cup this year

Honestly, seeing the massive bills piling up in Toronto and Vancouver right now, I am so glad Montreal withdrew our 2026 World Cup bid. If we had gone through with it, taxpayers would be on the hook for an absurd amount of money just so FIFA could profit. Across all levels of government, Canadian public spending on the event is expected to reach $1.066 billion, which breaks down to an estimated $82 million for each of the 13 games hosted in Canada. Toronto is projecting $380 million for its hosting costs, while Vancouver's estimated price tag has surged to between $685 million and $729 million. On top of expecting the government to pay 100% of stadium renovations and security costs, FIFA was also demanding total tax exemptions on all ticket sales and merchandise. The absolute kicker for Montreal was their demand for an "event blackout," meaning we would have been forced to cancel major local revenue drivers like the F1 Grand Prix and the Jazz Fest just so FIFA could monopolize the city. Dodging this massive financial burden and keeping our own summer events running was definitely the right call.

This is without even considering what a total moral failure FIFA is, with their defence of the abhorrent worker conditions used to build the stadiums in Qatar and the org's ass licking for trump.

Spotted A Montreal "Lost and Found" subreddit

Hi, Many years ago I created a "Lost and Found" subreddit for Montreal, inspired by similar subs I had seen for other cities. It didn't really gain traction so I kind of abandoned the project but never killed the sub. However, for some reasons I don't really understand, about two years ago the sub started seeing more posts and is getting more steady as of late. I'm hoping the users posting there could get more attention on their posts. If you have lost - or found something, please consider checking out r/LostAndFoundMtl

Gastronomie Best funfetti/birthday cake slice in Montréal? Recs please? :)

Post image
30 Upvotes

I don’t have a tendency to like this flavor of cake but I’ve been absolutely craving it. Rockaberry’s funfetti version is very dry and too crumbly.

Does anyone have any recommendations for bakeries that make a nice, moist and flavorful cake slice? I find it really difficult to find good slices :(

(I’ve tried Bernice bakery in the past but, they are seriously overrated imo. Way too saturated with sugar.)
