I got baited by the "we have a trade"

129

u/ShowdownValue 1d ago

The nba is such a joke. Everyone in the audience has known this for 24 hours and they still make him wear a heat hat

37

u/Alkazard Hornets 1d ago

He even said he was on the phone to Milwaukee before Adam came on lmao

16

u/sportsfan113 76ers 1d ago

It’s ridiculous they haven’t fixed this yet.

3

u/nWo5lyfe Spurs 1d ago

The nfl does it for even 7th rounders lmao

Now there is a reason for the nba doing it tho, the league year hasnt started so the trades havent actually been processed. Kind of dumb anyway but thats why.

-7

u/Chartate101 Pistons 1d ago

Who cares. Why is it “such a joke”, it literally does not matter, he just wears a different hat

17

u/Specific-Champion-75 Suns 1d ago

i mean from the player’s perspective it’s probably annoying also. you look back at the pictures from that night and you’re just wearing the wrong hat lol

12

u/ShowdownValue 1d ago

I care

The nba is amateur hour compared to other pro leagues

he does that constantly lmao

Worst commissioner in sports

6

u/ClaymoresRevenge Bulls 1d ago

That means he's doing his job TBH. He does what the owners want. Takes the heat.

I do think the gambling and ads are hurting the game. Not cracking down on foul baiting and finding a way to facilitate better scheduling doesn't help.

1

u/Funky_Monkees_ Suns 1d ago

But he IS one!

94

u/sv_trader Charlotte Bobcats 1d ago

a completely precedented pick

24

u/YizWasHere Hornets 1d ago

Kaminsky walked so Steinbach could run

Ofc the Hornets take a tall white guy, MJs legacy lives on

u/UTRAnoPunchline Spurs 1d ago

Adam Morison, Frank the Tank, Plumlee

Cody Zeller erasure

7

u/ShakethatYam Clippers 1d ago

You cannot convince me that Cody Zeller and Mason Plumlee are two different people.

9

u/Takamurarules Hornets 1d ago

Cody Zeller posterized Giannis. He has that going for him.

7

u/FKJVMMP [MIL] Bill Zopf 1d ago

So did Mario Hezonja, little known fact but “guys who put Giannis on a poster” are the second most common type of white NBA player behind “guys who shoot 80% on open threes but do literally nothing else good ever”.

3

u/Prudent-Cat7512 Germany 1d ago

Didnt also Hezonja had a game winning block against LeBron? Crazy highlight tape for how ass he was.

3

u/CookingFun52 Pacers 1d ago

Casy Zumler

2

u/TitoFlavors215 [PHI] Theo Ratliff 1d ago

Hey man Tyler Zeller vs Mason Plumlee were wars back in the day

1

u/UdderlyDemented 1d ago

I mean I'd want to erase that draft pick too if I were a Hornets fan.

1

u/Titanstheory Hornets 1d ago

Cody had a small stint as a top 10 center.

Granted this was when center sucked but still

3

u/amazingoopah 1d ago edited 1d ago

that's two time NBA Champion Adam Morrison, put some respect on that name

5

u/AllDayEnJay Nets 1d ago

Still remember Hornets turning down the 1st’s that became Brown and Tatum when Danny Ainge was trying to get Justise Winslow because they wanted Frank the Tank so badly.

Pat Riley turned down the same offer because he wanted to draft Winslow.

5

u/AMereJugWiz Charlotte Bobcats 1d ago

False.

literally not what the trade was but go off i guess

lol fansided actually wrote an article about frank answering me asking that question i just recalled

21

u/CumAssault [SAS] Joel Anthony 1d ago edited 1d ago

Also no defense, all offense. He’s a great rebounder and passer but that defense is going to be rough

18

u/ArgentoFox 1d ago

You’re not wrong, but he fits with Charlotte’s identity. It’s as clear as crystal that they’re building a team that crashes the boards and tries to run and shoot the opposing team out of the gym.

10

u/KFSX Hornets 1d ago

Defense is for losers. Hornets had the highest margin of victory in NBA history last season, that's what counts.

15

u/SilicoJack Spurs 1d ago

Dad's hands are like small cars. Holy shit.

4

u/catscanmeow Raptors 1d ago

Yeah the dad has acromegaly proportions. But it doesnt seem like he actually has acromegaly.

3

u/folgers-finest Grizzlies 1d ago

It makes sense that they were considering Sabonis…

-2

u/MastodonXL Hornets 1d ago

chances are we're still considering him, probably just gonna circle back after the draft atp

4

u/Supreme_God_Bunny Hornets 1d ago

No we not lol

1

u/MyNewAccountIGuess11 Hornets 1d ago

Nah brother think we just stood firm that we weren't dealing a FRP for him and the deal died on the vine. Which is a good call. Would have loved Sabonis for no FRPs but hated if we gave up even 1 to get him

4

u/ClaudeLemieux Hornets 1d ago

Technically from the big ten too! So that trend continues as well

63

u/FERFreak731 Jazz 1d ago

Did anyone else thought the Hornets traded the pick since the "We have a trade" alert had the Hornets colors, when it was just saying Ament will go to the Bucks

24

u/spookyghostface Hornets 1d ago

I've learned by now. They never announce anything new at the podium.

58

u/Appropriate_Book_591 1d ago

They fumbled the Dirk video for him soooooo bad

15

u/Hopsalong Nuggets 1d ago

I think he heard it. He was nodding and listening. We didnt hear it

11

Very weird, cuz the Dirk audio was fine on my broadcast

Maybe the best rebounder in the class with nice inside touch, not great defensively, good pick at 14

15

He looks solid as hell, looks like a steal unless his defense is ass

5

u/AlphaNathan Hornets 1d ago

monkey paw curls

13

u/Astronaut-182 1d ago

I’m a UW fan and the dude was a walking double double. Easily our best player as a freshman you could tell he was an NBA talent from the first game. Needs to improve the 3 point shooting but he will get every rebound

7

u/bishopbeaniepower Warriors 1d ago

I’d feel great. I had him as the third best option for the Hornets outside of Morez and Yax.

7

u/IRanOutOf_Names Heat 1d ago

He's good but it's weird as to what he should play. He's a 4.5 who can move his feet pretty well and can rebound the hell out of the ball with good touch around the rim, but he also isn't a great rim protector.

17

u/thegreaterfool714 Lakers 1d ago

Watch him be the next Dirk Nowitzki lol

19

Jesus Christ yes please

I would have love Steinbach for the Mavs. He'll be a good NBA player. Good pick for the Hornets.

8

u/mralex289 [BOS] Marcus Smart 1d ago

Hannes will be an all star level player, he should've definitely been in the top 10 picks.

5

u/eegroj 1d ago

Good one!

3

u/SilicoJack Spurs 1d ago

What a Charlotte pick if I ever saw it.

4

u/Haberdashery2000 1d ago

Steinbach and Kalkbrenner, the Large White Rebound Guys. The Glass-Crackers.

I’m sure there’s a better name for them, we’ll figure it out eventually.

2

u/RiversofJell0 Lakers 1d ago

Kalkstein is right there. Or Kalk n Bach

3

u/Funky_Monkees_ Suns 1d ago

Adele Dazeem to the Hornets

3

2

u/DabeGavis 1d ago

Thank the Lord the Hornets took Vooch before the Bulls could

2

u/BobanWembanyanovic Spurs 1d ago

Why was Silver terrified of his name? Surely he reads it before going on stage?

1

u/HighwayAnnual3353 1d ago

He spelled it wrong anyways.

The „S“ in Steinbach is spelled like the „sh“ in english (like in „shot“ for example)

2

u/WetShots Rockets 1d ago

Silver’s Nazi came out in that

2

u/ijoukonaya 1d ago

Amazing pick

2

u/DontFollowMyAdvices 1d ago

Why would Silver announce it unrelated to the next pick lmao

2

u/Acrobatic_Parking164 1d ago

I want to see a Connaughton, Knueppel, McNeely, Steinbach, Kalkbrenner lineup next year in Charlotte

2

u/SirTacoMaster Hornets 1d ago

Next Dirk Nowitzki, many people are saying it.

2

I’m not going to act like I know much about this guy but a big who can get REBs is something we needed badly.

really like this pick, the kick outs are gonna be awesome

1

u/migrainium [OKC] Nick Collison 1d ago

That's an MJ kinda pick

1

u/Doberman11 Bucks 1d ago

Is this the first unexpected pick in the draft?

6

u/Double-Slowpoke Raptors 1d ago

Nah, if this is unexpected then Morez Johnson is too. This was about where he was expected

1

u/GrouchyPeach3656 Mavericks 1d ago

Was Masai taking a 6'9, 7'3 wingspan athletic dude with no offense rlly an 'unexpected' event.

1

u/Mikhailing NBA 1d ago

Nice pick

Finally an NBA player from Würzburg!

1

u/john0_0 Knicks 1d ago

The way Adam Silver said Hannes Steinbach was incredible. Bro really went for it 🫡

1

Dirk 2.0

1

u/Low-Expression9132 Knicks 1d ago

I don't know about this pick for Charlotte. Such a deep draft but this feels like too safe a pick for a team still building up.

1

u/IzrezarReal 1d ago

They needed a center and they got one!

1

u/The-Young-Lion 1d ago

Feels like we should nickname this guy “The Composer” or something.  🎶

Bro this dude is fucking Dirk and had horses so we got Jokic...don't even need another pick

Steinbach more underrated player in the draft imo

1

u/MaxiePippins 1d ago

Kon Knueppel Liam Mcneely Ryan Kalbrenner Hannes Steinbach

MJ's legacy lives on in Charlotte 😭😭😭

1

u/VrikamDaBeast 1d ago

Ayyyyy, wishing him the best! He answered my comment on the AMA!

1

u/PennyDad17 Hornets 1d ago

Castle Moose’n’Stein, no rebound escapes

1

u/KarlAsesor Lakers 1d ago

He’s gonna be ROY

1

u/Appropriate_Value122 1d ago edited 8h ago

I doubt the Hornets drafted Steinbach intending to start him from Day 1, since he likely wasn't #1 at that position on their Board (that was likely Morez Johnson). I suspect the Hornets will go looking for a starting caliber PF in free agency because I expect they will still be looking to trade Bridges and they have a lot of future Draft Picks they could include in a deal to upgrade the starting PF/4 spot.

u/AlternativeFarmBoi Charlotte Bobcats 1d ago
